I have just come back from spending five days at the Palace Hotel Citta in Arco. As part of a coach tour of Italy. We found the hotel to be extremely shabby. The furniture in the bedroom was from the 1960's. The air-conditioning wasn't very efficient, and cut out at midnight. The TV didn't work. There was no drinks making facilities in the room, with the exception of a mini-bar/fridge that didn't keep anything cool. Of the two chairs provided, the base of one of them had collapsed. The bathroom was disgusting, the taps didn't fit the sink properly, and on one occasion the hot tap wouldn't turn off at all. The toilet was badly fitted. The toilet roll holder was half hanging off the wall. The extractor fan sounded like a cement mixer. The shower cubicle, at some point had been replaced for a different one, which didn't fit properly, and wasn't fitted to the floor. The floor tiles around the shower didn't meet the cubicle. The tiles in the actual shower were cracked, and very dirty.
As for the management, when my partner went down stairs to complain to the manageress about our hot water tap, another guest was asking for assistance for his elderly wife. She had fallen off the toilet when the seat broke, and had hurt herself. The manageress was far from sympathetic or helpful. She complained that she couldn't get hold of a plumber this late in the night, and accused the elderly guest of breaking the toilet himself. She refused to go and help. Absolutely disgusting.
The food we were provided hopefully wasn't a fair representation of their usual meals, as they might have been working down to a budget. But it wasn't very good.
I understand that the hotel is going through a period of refurbishment, so some parts may well be better than others, if they are, they must be saving them for the guests who pay full price and aren't in coach parties. But does not excuse the manageress' behavior.
