I was booked into this hotel by my company as the usual Radisson was full. It is situated in a busy suburb and the facade of the hotel is showing its age. The reception area does not improve on this image, there were signs of severe damp on the pillars with plaster blistering and indeed gathering on the floor. There was a big chunk of the plaster missing from the ceiling. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful and directed me to my room via the elevator - well, it's been a long time since I have seen an elevator with wooden doors and interior - most definitely original equipment but it seemed to work ok.
It was early evening when I arrived and it was getting dark, I opened the door to the room and felt for the light switch and pushed. the light came on briefly, there was an electrical shorting noise and the light popped. I dropped my case in the room & went to report this then went for dinner. Restaurant staff were very pleasant and efficient and the food was served quickly and the steak I had was tender & cooked to perfection, house wine was good as was the chocolate mouse. I returned to the room about an hour later & it was still without lights, another trip to reception & was accompanied back to the room by one of the staff. he reset the tripped breaker in a cupboard and showed me a piece of (clear) sellotape across the light switch from which I was supposed to infer that it was out of order. Yes, mon ami, but it was dark when I came in and could not see the switch!! ok, so that fixed and me not touching that light switch again I perused the room; quite small twin bedded with a separate toilet and separate shower / bath. it had a desk but there was not enough room between that and the bed to pull the chair out so you had to slide in under the desk to get a seat. the seat was a very tacky plastic construction moulded in a vague 'classic' shape. Decor was ok, room felt a bit dark with the old dark wardrobe and desk. Bed was comfortable and bedding was crisp & clean, room was clean and tidy with coffee, team etc. The bathroom suite was hideous - the colour of hearing aid beige might have been all the rage in the 80's but why do hotels not stick to white?
All in all, I would not choose to stay here again, it needs a lot of work to bring it up to a standard to match the 140 Euros a night they were charging for room only!
