“Vastly overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

La Ferme Saint-Vennec is overpriced and not at all worth the Euro 175 or $ 230 cost per night even if breakfast is included. (In contrast our subsequent stay near-by was E 80 or $ 104 per night in a far more pleasant room with a fine breakfast.) Our room was large enough but by no mean luxurious. There was not even a chair to sit in and read. There was not much light to read by in bed either. The bathroom was equipped with a fancy shower but most of the small nozzles would only give a very limited spray of water – apparently they needed to be cleaned.
At Euro 177 or $ 230 per night one does not expect to find plastic glasses and paper coffee cups. Also it was the only place we stayed in Brittany that did not have a small refrigerator available in the room.
We were given exactly one small oval piece of blue soap for our 3 night stay – fortunately we had additional soap with us but this should not be necessary at Euro 175 or $ 230 per night; sadly the coffee was replaced only once.
There were cobwebs and dust bunnies hanging in the corners and in the toilet. When we reported this, we were told that spiders tend to come in….
The breakfast was nice but limited to the traditional French fare, bread, croissants, jam, yogurt. Coffee was served by the small cup and we had to ask for several refills.
The opening hours of the La Ferme Saint-Vennec reception are 5 to 8 pm which is annoying especially at a cost of Euro 175 or $230 per night and is limiting to ones travel plans. After several cloudy, partly rainy days, the weather had finally turned beautiful, but we had to rush to meet the 5 to 8 pm deadline and a nice end of the day was spoiled.
In conclusion, the Ferme Saint-Vennec has 4 star prices but 2 star qualities.

We spent 8 days on a tour of Brittany and found only two great places to stay. La Longere in Languidic - a small B & B (see my review) and La Ferme Saint-Vennec. La Ferme was a chance and lucky find in a guide book. It's an old priory and made up of 3 buildings. A combination of a small hotel and self catering cottages. One can either take a cottage and be completely self sufficient, or eat in the restaurant or stay in one of the two hotel rooms.

When we were there only breakfast was on offer mainly I think because Madame was only days away from an extension to her family ! She said however that normally evening meals are available and can be either taken in the restaurant or in your cottage.
We were shown to cottage number 2 (the largest) and were really impressed when we opened the door. Not only are the buildings very sympathetically renovated, but are very spacious and beautifully furnished with lots antiques and very comfortable king sized beds. The cottage had 2 large double bedrooms and a good sized room with twin beds. A great bathroom and a full kitchen. It also had it's own garden and outdoor furniture.

The location is beautiful being in it's own park like setting. Great heated swimming pool. This would be great for a group holiday where one could take over all 3 adjoining cottages and accommodate 14 people in comfort. Madame mentioned Christmas - the cottages would be fully decorated and have roaring open fires - sounds very tempting !

The French couple who run it are really friendly and welcoming - she speaks excellent English. We loved this place and will definitely be returning

Our new favourite in Finistere is La Ferme St Vennec. After 15 years of holidays in Finistere and Morbihan we now found our best place to be. It is not only perfecly seated between the beautiful beaches of La Torche and the nice city of Quimper but it is an absolutely peaceful and a really recreational oasis.

We had first one of the rooms which was very good. It has warm and cosy blankeds and a huge bed. The room has a nice flat screen and antique furniture. We had our own hall and a very modern bathroom with shower and bath tube. Everything had been cleaned every day. The service was excellent.

But the last two times we upgrade ourselfs to one of the cottages. These are old stone houses recorated with love for every little detail. They have a modern kitchen each with all comfort. It is like your own cosy home far from home!

The house and the garden is so loveley. It is totally quiet. And it is close to busy Benodet and Quimper. The next little village St. Marine has a nice harbour with very good restaurants from very elegant Cafe du Port to yummy creperie La Misaine. The guests enjoy their dinner and the magnificent lights during sunset.

The hosts Julie and Jean-Marie Perrin are very friendly. They are patient with every exotic question we have and very tolerant with all our surfing stuff drying in the garden. The garden is simply huge. Cultivated by a very enthusiastic gardener. Beautiful old roses are in blossom as well as lavender and hortensias.

We highly recommend this excellent retreat, although now the competition for rooms will now grow even more!
