“Good Food and Nice Welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

This is a lovely historic old coaching inn in a smashing small town. We called in for Xmas lunch this week and by goodness it was excellent value because we had the OAP's menu for £10 a head for 3 courses. The portion size was smaller than normal but still good enough for us. The staff were very friendly and the service was very good. There is a smashing atmosphere in the old world inn. They also have a good value 2 couse lunch advertised for OAP's at £5 a head from Monday to Saturday.

I found this by chance when looking for post wedding accommodation and was pleasantly surprised.

The combo of a very comfy room and superb traditional works very well and Brian the giant and Nic made me feel very welcome.

Nicola, who runs this delightful informal ancient inn provides a spotlessly clean comfortable ensuite and serves a delicious cooked breakfast second to none.
I felt very comfortable staying in this inn. Parts of its building go back as far as the 14th century. A great place to escape back in time.
The locals were all friendly and helpful.

I stayed at the Cross Keys at the start of September 2010 with my husband. We had a wonderful time at both the hotel and also the quaint town of Usk, everyone was really friendly, welcoming and accomodating. We could not fault the rooms, all of which looked as if they had been recently re decorated, equipped with fluffy towels and pillows. As we arrived fairly late we decided to eat at the pub, and we were not dissapointed - the food was beautiful and plentiful, and not out of a microwave!!! We had a great nights sleep as the beds were very comfortable, which was closley followed up by a freshly cooked breakfast, which again there was plenty. We will definitley be returning for our next anniversary

Usk is a pretty, small town just off the M50 / A449 route from England into S Wales and made a relaxing stopover in a busy schedule.
The Cross Keys is an old Inn full of character in the centre of Usk but also has a large quiet car park.
The room I had was freshly decorated, with a good bed and a small table to work at with a number of plug sockets, as well as the usual flat screen TV and kettle etc.
The good quality food was served in the bar by friendly pleasant staff in a 'local' atmosphere accompanied by well kept beers including a couple of hand pumped varieties.
All in all a very pleasant alternative to usual run of plastic hotels.
