“Great place and amazing hospitality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

WE have just returned from our lovely trip to Italy. We stayed a couple of nights here and if we had more time - we would defintely stay here longer. THe rooms are clean and spacious, the breakfast is lovely but most important it is a romantic place, quiet, grat atmosphere and amazing hospitality. The owners of this hotel really took care of everything we needed (and that's extremely important when you come with your baby...). You won't regret it!

We recently stayed for two nights at this family run hotel. Stefano looked after us so well, and gave us great advice for the local area. The hotel was clean and comfortable. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant. Would recommend. Thanks again !

The hotel is all ariund a good Hotel, comfortable, clean, look after in all detail.

But what is amazing is that you go back to 70', vico Magistretti has entirely designe the hotel, not only architecture, but also furniture, lights, materials, etc

Owners have ben so intelligent to keep everything live! And you go back to 70' and you feel that each single detail has been orchestrated... Sinphony!

So if you want iper moder hotel is not for you, if you love Design... Come!

Staff have been incredebily polite, welcoming and nice.

P.S. Try home made apricot jam at breakfast...

The hotel owner and restaurant manager were very friendly. The restaurant evening meal was absolutely excellent and priced as expected for higher standards and within the same price range as regional restaurants. Breakfast buffet was reasonably sufficient and continually supplied throughout the offered (we tested this with alterations in daily plans and wake-up hours).
This hotel is somewhat old and in need of repairs here and there, so if you have the expectations of a middle European 4-star hotel you may be somewhat disapointed. We did not intend to spend our days in the hotel room, so space was quite sufficient, television flat-screen offered "Sky", air-conditioner was sufficient (we had an average of 40°C during our entire stay), and overlooked a field of basil with mountains in the background. When we had difficulties with the bathtub drain, it was promptly repaired. Bedding was consistently changed and fresh bath towels offered daily.
It is only a few km from the sandy marine beach and convenient for a boat ride to "pebble beach". The hotel swimming pool was very nice.
The hotel proprietor offered suggestions when we requested about local activities & sites and provided excellent suggestions when requested. I never felt "controlled" as the previous commentator rather he was considerate to see that guests were enjoying their stay. We utilized train service in La Spezia to tour Cinque Terre, enjoyed a splendid wine tasting afternoon in Monteresso, and returned by boat. This was included in our package and was really worthy of a visit.
We travelled from here by train to Florence (2hrs distance), Pisa (1 hr away) and to Assisi (about 4 hrs) by car. Highway conditions in this entire area do vary and there are toll charges. Our family consisted of 1 adult & 2 young adults.

I stopped at this hotel with my siter and 14 year old son. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel itself was nice enough but there were a number of factors that spoilt the stay. The Air conditioning is not functioning the staff try to say that it is working because you hear the noise of the fan. The staff are obviously aware that this is a constant problem as due to all raised eyebrows and pure italian conversations. The staff open all the windows to communal areas at night with the lights on in an attempt to get air through the building. This unfortunately this allows all the local mosquitoes into the building. Having read some previous reviews we took mosquito nets with us. However we got bittten at breakfast where there plenty of mosquito's.

The staff try hard to be helpful and welcoming, the pool was very nice and clean, it had a pleasant setting with lovely views of the Apuan Alps. The boiled eggs at breakfast were delicious. I suspect the hotel probably can't afford the necessary upgrade of airconditioning as there occupancy is low even in August. Advice to the management.

1. Remove any reference to Air conditiong as this is just untrue.
2. Use some form of insect killing device in the breakfast area.
3. Tea and coffee facilities in the room would be nice.
4. Reception should be manned especially as you advertise 24 hr room service

The location of the Locanda is perfect if you have a car: 45 minutes to Lucca, 50 to Pisa, 30 to Lerici and around 1 hour to Cinque Terre. It's the first bit of country you can find north of the Viareggio-Forte del Marmi complex.

It has a beautiful very clean swimming pool. There is a huge field of basil right next to the hotel, views of the Apuan alps, yet it's minutes from many good restaurants and sandy beaches. Stefano the manager and Carlo the restaurant manager are very warm and speak good English. The hotel was comfortable and the breakfasts are delicious and ample. The room had a good sized terrace, a great bathroom with natural light from the high ceiling and hardwood floors. Great for our teenagers and for us: we'd go back again in a second.

The air conditioning in our room was marginal, which meant a few warm nights: a fan might be worth asking for. The hotel is a 70's building and is showing ageing. It's clean but it's not perfect, there are some chipped tile and wear and tear. I didn't see any mould in either of our rooms.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with my mother (70) and could not have asked for a hotel with more helpful or kind staff , they looked after us from the moment we arrived . It is a shame the present economy sees less visitors but this is not a reflection on the hotel .
We ate in the resturant one evening , the food and service were fabulous .
If we are in the area again i wouldn't hesitate to stay there .

Room Tip: We stayed in a ground floor room which was great for my mother who is less mobile .
