“Fabulous honeymoon hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

My husband and I researched a lot of hotels for our honeymoon before choosing Hotel Ravesi, and we were so pleased with the excellent service and stunning location (and value for money) that we encountered.

May is outside of high season, and this hotel has the perfect amount of privacy (as well as stunningly romantic views) that we were after for our Honeymoon. An ideal place to unwind, and for many days, the only 'guests' we shared the pool with were the geckos and birds. This is not the place you should stay if you are looking for action or activities and I would imagine not an ideal place to bring children The views over the sea, however, were incredible both day and night, especially seeing Stromboli's fires explode in the dark sky.

Senora Carla and her team were extremely warm and helpful throughout our stay. Everyone greets you with a smile and a 'ciao', and the staff can recommend many activities to do on Salina as well as tried to organise trips to the other islands (I say 'tried' because, unfortunately it was too windy for the excursion we had planned to go on). We later found out that Aeoli, the name of the archipelago, is derived from the word for wind in Italian, and there were several days on our stay that were so windy it prevented boats from departing.

There is no restaurant on the premises, however a great little trattoria is about five minutes walk from the hotel, and a smarter restaurant with an excellent wine list at the hotel next door (also about five minutes away). Senora Carla does hand-make most of the aperitivos, which are delicious local nibbles that are excellent accompaniments to a cocktail (Aperol Spritz) and best enjoyed watching the sun set by the pool side. Around lunch time it is a little tricky, as most of the village closes between the hours of 13:00 and 17:00, however a short bus ride into Santa Maria or Lingua provides more choice (Da Alfredo's cafe in Lingua is a must).

I would definitely come back!

We stayed 3 nights at ravesi, we are a family of 2 adults and 2 children and stayed in a junior suite which is slightly separate from the main part of the hotel but within the hotel grounds.
The environment is lovely with beautiful gardens and a lovely swimming pool with panoramic view of panacea and Stromboli.
The hotel is a small building with rooms on the ground floor and first floor all I believe are accessed directly from the outside (no corridors) this gives a very nice open feel to the hotel/ rooms.
Out first impression I must admit was mixed because we are used to larger hotels and rooms and this felt at first cramped for the 4 of us, also my first impression was that the pool was a bit small. But within a few hours we realise how nice the place was. The room was very nice with sliding doors between sleeping area for adults/ children. The fact that we could go in put room from the garden was really convenient and mot rooms I believe have terraces too. The pool was also very lively and not too small at all with a big part of shallower end and a smaller very deep area.
Actually, we spent many hours by the pool and had it for our own for many hours. The bar is open at breakfast, around lunch and dinner but only serves food at breakfast. This was not a problem for us as you are on a road with shops and cafes and on several occasion we bought take away and ate at the bar by the pool or on our terrace! There are also many restaurants walking distance with the closest one being right next door to the hotel.
In the evening, the bar reopens and serves a small buffet of dishes as aperitif which you can have if you but a drink, we ended up doing this every day. It's a nice chilling moment and many of the guests end up being around.
The owner comes by in the morning or evening to see the guests and make small exchanges as she does not speak English. However all the staff could speak good English.

We used the laundry external service and this was 20 euros for wash and dry of a bag full/ one washing load. Clothes were returned nicely folded and it was a welcome service.

The ladies at the front desk also helped arrange an island your with a tour company.

There is a stone beach which is in theory walking distance but its all the way down and all the way back up. We did it but it was very tough for the kids... And even us in the August heat. Once there we got bored quickly with walking on the stones but I'm glad we saw it, the water was beautiful.

They also arranged for a taxi from the main port which was 20 euros one way, I know there is a parking for those who would rent a car.

As for room choice, away from the pool front may be quieter, the bar opens to the public in the evening, music is not loud but I believe they have some live music at the week ends.

Breakfast is simple but it has been everywhere we have stayed so far in Italy in smaller hotels.

Wifi only at the bar and not in the rooms.

We absolutely loved our stay in ravesi, we were sad to leave. Everybody is very relax, the ambiance is very nice. As for children well yes they are a bit loud sometimes so when there was other people at the pool we try to remind them to keep the noise down- there quite a few couples- but as I said most of the time we had the pool for ourselves and so it was not a problem! The owner kept saying how lovely the kids were etc, so we felt very at ease.

Will keep a wonderful memory of hotel ravesi...

on an island which takes a little effort to get to!

We brought our two small children along and were housed in a spacious place across the road. We had electrical circuit challenges which were not the fault of the hotel team, but they dealt with the problem promptly.

The swimming pool setting was beautiful and the breakfast, evening snacks and cocktail bar all blended in to make it a restful place.

I'm not sure whether Ravesi is ideal for children. The owner wife was quick to anger and shout when mine (as they frequently do) bent the rules.

I'm also hoping that their laundry policy has changed as a result of my visit. They originally used the 2-3 Euro per garment pricing prevalent in 5-star hotels, and instructed me to walk 15 minutes up the hill if I wanted a load of laundry cleaned. Under protest, they relented, and were over-generous instead.

Stayed for 4 days. The owner, Mrs. Ravesi and her reception staff, Nadia and Giuliana are the best. They took care of our every need, scheduling tours, taxis and telling us the best places for dinner, etc.
The infinity pool overlooks the ocean and breakfast is served in an area overlooking the pool. Jr. suite was very nice with sliding doors separating the bedrooms for privacy.
The hotel is located right in Malfa so it is very convenient to all of the shops.
Great small family run hotel

Great place, we loved this small hotel, personalized service, great common area with a pool with an amazing view to the sea and mountain.
We had a room that was separate from the main building and that was a great plus.
Small room but very nice (i think all rooms in Salina/Sicily will be small).
Situated in Malfa which is a smaller and quiet town on Salina, though the island is small enough it takes 15-20mins by motorbyke to reach each place.

Pros:
Staff was super friendly all the time and helpful with recommendations and organizing other activities, great plus
great idea to have an aperitivo every afternoon (they offered food if you bought a drink, so had a very nice afternoon/evening by the pool.
Beautiful and very well taken care garden and great views from wherever you stand.

Cons:
Internet only available in the breakfast/Pool area.
Breakfast was a bit disappointing, not bad definitely but could have more and nicer options (more fruit, better pastries, eggs maybe? etc)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view and separate from the main building (or away from the Pool at least)

We chose this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews, and we weren't disappointed.
We stayed in the hotel's Junior Suite (it was off season) - very simple, but clean, spacious and a good bathroom - everything that you would want for a relaxed summer holiday.
The owner Signora Ravesi was lovely - she doesnt really speak english but has an employee who spent a lot of time growing up in Melbourne, Australia - so it completely fluent.
The hotel provides breakfast every day, they provided gluten free options for me (I am coeliac), the pool was clean and in a great spot - and the hotel is right in the thick of things (not that there really is a thick..)
Salina is a quiet island, and the most populated area - Malfa - has about a dozen shops - and you quickly get to know the locals and their dogs.
We had a town dog called Argo who used to join us every day on our walk around the town - a relaxed stroll and good food along with some hikes is the extent of what you can do off season but we didn't care!
Overall, lovely simple, quiet hotel and great staff. No restaurant, but there is Signum next door and plenty around the island.

Room Tip: junior suite was lovely and private

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Ravesi and could easily have stayed a week. Carla, Nadia and Giuliana were the perfect hosts; friendly, thoughtful and efficient.
The breakfast served outside overlooking the infinity pool and gorgeous sea, was not only a wonderful star to the day, but also felt like a 5 star retreat. We definitely hope to return.
Grazie a tutti.
