“Perfect Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

We were looking for a hotel near Neuschwanstein castle and found this one. All I can say is this may have been the best night we had out of 15 days in Europe. When we arrived they were having a Summer festival with Brass band, German food and of course beer. My family had a blast listening to the music and enjoying the food. The locals were wonderful and the hotel rooms were very nice, the entire facility is very well kept and clean. The restaurant was also very nice with a very good menu. This hotel was certainly an unexpected highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: We had 2 rooms both were very nice.

We stayed in this hotel as part of a group trip. My overwhelming impression was that the hotel is geared for conferences and that explains what you get. The rooms were adequate and clean, as were the common areas. The balcony on our room was pretty tiny, and you could step over the wall to a large flat roof area, so not really a balcony as such. Breakfast had a large continental selection, and more limited hot choice, but was pretty good overall. Dinner was buffet style, which is almost always a bad sign. Although some items of starter and dessert were quite nice little highlights (some less so), the overall standard of main courses was disappointing, with relatively few exceptions. The group we were with were all crammed into a small, cramped corner. The manager did ask one evening if everything was ok, and one of our party mentioned this - he dealt with a very reasonable observation in a glib and offhand manner. There was noticeably more room the following evening thought! The staff were a bit variable, with a lot of the younger girls having the distinct air that they would rather be somewhere else, doing something more interesting. Vincent in the bar was a highlight though - very pleasant and hospitable. WiFi was available, but around €25 per week, which is outrageous. Whilst we were there, there were a small number of conference people, and large coach parties of Chinese tourists who appeared and disappeared in about a day. Both groups were in a separate annex and didn't really interact with the other guests (although the coach arrivals and departures were early/late and could be noisy), but I suspect this high volume, short stay throughput is what has made the hotel a bit lazy in looking after the other guests. It's not a terrible hotel, but is average and a bit soulless.

Room Tip: If you pay for a balcony, make sure you get a real one and are not adjacent to the flat roof. Rooms...

Stayed for two nights whilst on a business/Oktoberfest trip. The hotel is well appointed with good facilities. The location is wonderful, offering some stunning views. The staff were generally very good and very well presented in local native dress. I will be very happy to return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 212 worked well for me and I would have it again if available.

I stayed 2 nights for a work training course. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Service was helpful and efficient though out the hotel. Nicely situated and many activities to keep you busy. Breakfast an dinner was excellent with a huge selection to choose from. Many authentic German dishes were always on offer. The conference room facilities are excellent and perfect for large group meetings and training. Enjoyed m say and would go back with my family.

Room Tip: It's quite pricy in my opinion so expect to spend some money in the pub. Take along some comfort...

Stayed recently for 1-night while on business in the area and overall the stay was decent enough. Understandably geared towards German tourists but more than happy and capable enough to look after us non-Germans too. Rooms adequate and many with scenic views of the Alps from a nice size balcony. Food and drink good although typically German so be prepared to try while the hotel's staff overall were very helpful and caring.

A 131 room hotel in a not so coveted location. The rooms are ok, renovated and clean. No objections to the quality of meals either. The "Wellnessbereich", is somewhat of a joke, a pool with 10 deck chairs a sauna without a view and a relaxing area. The attitude is geared to charge everything possible, for instance a bathrobe is available against "Reinigungsgebühr" of 3 EUR, the garage is 15 EUR per day etc. Definitely overrated for a 4 star place.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

I visited this hotel as part of a business/long weekend with my wife. As the title says it was average, I dont think it was worth 4 stars, about 3.5 I guess.

We booked a room with a valley view, as opposed to a mountain view, strangely it costs more, probably because the road runs directly in front of the mountain view rooms. Guess what, the room was average, everything you might expect, flat screen TV, bath, shower, balcony etc.

We stayed in the hotel for our evening meal. There was a choice of buffet or a-la carte. W went for the buffet, the food was.......average, nothing special. Afterwards we went into the bar, where at about 9pm a lagre group arrived and asked if food was available, the chef quickly said no it was too late, despite it advertising evening meals until 930, welcome to the Schillinghof!

It is set above Bad Kohlgrub, you get there by walking down quite a steep hill for about 500 metres, we returned by the the main road and the road to the hotel, about 1,5kms but nowhere as steep.

It is straight across the road from the chair lift up the mountain, €6 one way, we walked down, it took about an hour, and my legs are still aching from the walk!

So would I go again, probably not, mainly because after a few weeks I would have forgotten about it because it was so average.

Room Tip: Valley view = quite mountain view = hills and road noise
