5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2011

we arrived on the 14th june,to a lovely greeting from maria.we had read all the bad reviews but had already booked may 2010 allinclusive.maria told us she did not do ai anymore but she would have to let us as thats what we'd booked,no problem.she did tell us we were the last british couple, cretan village is now in the italian market and they were half board,so the rest of the visitors were all italian.all of course spoke excellant english.106 steps to our beutiful appartment, massive, great views, sun all day.very clean towels changed each day plus extra.breakfast was good enough for what we needed,we went back every day for lunch and was ammazed at the choice could only ever eat the salad &main course &of course the only 2 in the dining room waited on every day by the lovely katerina.beer &wine were ice cold &in a glass.dinner, there was plenty of choice and cooked to perfection, real greek food.very nice to meet chistina and dragon excellant service from them,we cannot see why some people are never satisfied.we have been to many greek islands over the last 15 years, been back to the same island more than once, pity cretan village is no longer on the english market.we are both 58year old and came back a lot fitter than we went.it is not for the elderly or people with babies but read the reviews before go.all we can say sorry we can't go back, but it was excellant for us.

Room Tip: ask for a low floor, still seep steps.

We stayed here for 1 week all inclusive in the middle of May. It is Greece and the room was very basic. not very modern but very clean and that's the main thing. We paid £300 each for a week all inclusive each so we didn't expect the Hilton !
The food was good, Breakfast: Eggs, bread, cereal, fruit and yogurt no variety except for what is stated, Lunch: Plenty of salad, greek cheeses and dips, menu for lunch changed every day - maybe lamb skewers & pasta, chips and chicken nuggets, pizza - Enough variety that there would be one thing you liked. Tea: always chips and potatoes or pasta with meat / vegetables but to be honest it was not very nice at tea but copeable. You could drink all day - Only lagers / house wine ( which was minging ) But no free ice-creams or sun lounger towels and no hairdryers - i would of thought these should be included but they are not and caused alot of arguments with other holiday makers.
The hotel is on the steepest incline i have ever seen - not at all copeable for the elderly or people with small shildren as it is very steep and i am a fit person but my legs ached by the time you got to the top of the very steep stone stairs ! The staff have to use a very small 4x4 car ( sooty van) to take your luggage up to the apartments as you could not drag it up the steep hill yourselves ! Also the pool is not for children who cannot swim - 2 metres deep at the shallow end and 3 metres at the deep end - so not ideal for very small children.

But we really did enjoy our stay, sunshine, salt water pool and 15 minutes walk from a lovely sandy beach and the staff were all lovely and polite and helpfull so we did enjoy it - but you do get what you pay for and you make your holiday a good holiday not the place you are staying !!

You get what you pay for, I agree its not a 4 star hotel, but my husband and I paid approx £105 each for this hotel (after taking off the cost of the flight), for that we got 7 nights accommodation in our own appartment, 7 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner (home cooked Greek Food), and all local drinks (which were limited to certain times). Katerina and Dragan were friendly and always gave help when needed. We got change of towels every two days, we arrived late at night and was given welcome drinks, even though the all inclusive had ended.
The location was stunning with lovely beaches near by, and a good walking area. We walked along the beach every day to Aghios Nicolas and called in tavernas along the way.
The apartments are up steep steps so not suitable for anyone who cant manage them. We had two balcanies, living space, a kitchen and a separate bedroom.

If you want a plastic palace where you can stuff your face and get p***sed every night then dont go here, if you want a chill with beautiful scenery and experience the Greek life, then this is the place for you.
REMEMBER you cant get 2 nights BB in the UK for this price!

Booked through Thomas Cook. I holiday regularly in Crete at 4/5 star hotels but on arrival, at about 2.30pm, this hotel looked shabby and run down, definately not the 4 star standard I had experienced in past stays on the Island. The receptionist met us with cigaret in her mouth. A second receptionist ambled over from a settee in the area and even allowing for language difficulties was brusque bordering on rude..i.e.... 'Yes!', 'Papers!' 'Wheres the rest of your papers!' Having only been issued with a computerised slip by the travel operator I didnt have anything else, this was such an inconveinience for her. I was given a room key and told your rooms up the stairs on the right. No offer of help with luggage, no offer to show us to the room she just walked off. The stairs in question were very narrow very steep and went up a very long hill that the hotel is built on. It was in the middle of a rain storm and they were also slippery. Finding the room wasnt easy as many room numbers were missing. On entering the room it looked shabby and in need of decoration, the floor was wet and the third bed for my daughter hadnt been made up. The lighting in the main room was a central light with one small candle shaped bulb of about 20-25 watts. The bathroom had only one small light above the mirror which immitted a dim yellow light that was so low one couldnt see properly to comb your hair. There was no hot water to wash or shower in. On asking for brighter lighting and the third bed to be made up we were told the bulbs were long life and took time to brighten. Our reply that the lights had been on for at least half an hour and we no brighter that they had been on being switched on illicited the reply I'll send some one up. A chambermaid arrived after about an hour, looked in the bathroom did nothing and made up the bed on the bed settee, as she did so the arm of the setee fell off and she merely placed it back and left. We enquired as to when hot water would be available and were told "Theres no sun so no hot water" We asked if there was a back to heat the water and were told someone would be up at 5pm. A man arrived at 5 ran the bathwater, still cold, climed on the roof where the solar equipment was and left. Still no hot wter. At 6.pm still no hot water and dinner was to be served at 7pm my wife went to see the reception and ask if some hot water could be supplied. The receptionist raised her voice to my wife and informed her 'This is a 4 star hotel, youve got a 4star room with 4 star views, if yuou dont like it you can go and find somewhere else to live.' I took this advice and checked out. I found a superb hotel, proper 4star accomodation and staff, at the Candia Park Village and enjoyed the remainder of my stay.

Dear Guest,
We wish to thank you for your comments regarding your stay with us. Any constructive feedback is more than welcome.
Our hotel is built amphitheatrically based on traditional Cretan style, which means the stairs and the whole vintage style of each room is part of that.
As we took seriously your comments we renovated some parts of the Hotel and decorated differently each room in order to provide you a comfortable and better experience at the traditional Cretan style.
Although everyone has a particular taste, with our renewed buffet we try to satisfy as many tastes as possible. The buffet includes homemade and fresh products in which we ensure you will enjoy the traditional Cretan cuisine.
Since we faced a lot of problems with all inclusive programs, now we operate only on Bed & Breakfast and Half Board basis.
Our staff is here to assist our valued guests and to make sure they will enjoy an unforgettable stay in our Hotel.
We would be more than happy to welcome you again in our hotel and compensate you with a magnificent stay.
Thank you,
Cretan Village Hotel

Just come back from the Cretan Village Hotel and felt that I needed to warn others about this hotel. This is not an all inclusive holiday, as stated, and I have never known such awful people running a business in the leisure industry. Only one member of staff was nice, the others were the most miserable, unhelpful people I have ever met. The owner and her daughter never smiled and they always felt they should have last say. We have stayed at many all inclusive hotels and this always included bar until midnight (not 10.00pm!), a good choice of food, including starters and sweets (not the case at Cretan Village!). One night I asked for butter for my bread and was told butter only available at breakfast. Children also asked but they were also refused. We were not warned about the steps and very very steep slope and no one was available to help on arrival (not 24 hour reception). To be fair we did have nice, spacious accomodation but this hotel has lots of room for improvement but nothing will improve until the owner moves out!! This hotel is not near to any shops etc so she uses this to be able to charge for things such as teas, coffees, spirits (which are normally included in the all inclusive programme, but not here). We made the best of this situation, had a nice holiday and met some nice people, who were all in the same position. We learn't to share things between ourselves rather than keep paying this awful woman but I especially felt sorry for the children, nothing whatsoever for them to do and steps were dangerous for the very young and elderly. I have been to Crete many times and had wonderful holidays but this was a disappointment. I would recommend the Island but please stay at another hotel.

I cannot say enough bad things about this place it definitley was a holiday from hell .The landlady (aka hatchet woman) was one of the rudest and vile people i have ever met in my life and so were all the other staff with the exception of katerina . We had 74 steps to walk up to our room and getting the cases back down was a nightmare to say the least , the food was awful and i mean gut wrenching i would not even offer it to my dog let alone people , Dragan the barman at night was stoned and on god knows what everynight and very nasty ,he basically didn't like women with a view . when we arrived we was told all inclusive was 11-11 but changed to 11-10 as soon as we had been there 5 minutes ,"hatchet" had all the welcome packs reprinted to 11-10 after we said it clearly stated 11-11.the swimming pool steps were like razor blades you were lucky if you came out the pool without a scar ,my friend had ants in her bathroom and was told it was her own fault for taking children on holiday because they drop crumbs and to sweep the bathroom herself everyday , ( yes cos we pay for all inclusive to clean the hotel everyday :s i think not ) it was far from all inclusive and we was being watched like hawks all the time .If you had a comment they didn't like you were threatened to be thrown out of the hotel . air con was 8 euros a day but only did 1 room ,i really could go on and on but i won't all i can say is stay away from that excuse for a hotel at all costs .

These people should not even be runnning a buisness, rude, food was nice but the same thing day after day, how this holiday is advertised as al inclusive is an absolute joke, after reading through the other reviews my oppinion is exactly the same, You don`t pay to go away and be spoken to like crap, charging for ice cream, everything was cheap rubbish, I understand the country is struggling finacially but we sat there one night listening to the staff say "there english just rip them off and make some money". There ws nothing for my children to do at all, and after a while you get fed up with just staring at the view because that was the nicest bit. Don`t bother waisting your money going here is all i can say.
