Menkee Barns is one of those rare finds that you just want to tell everyone about. We have stayed at a great variety of B&Bs, and this ranks up there with the best. Situated on a lovely country property a short drive from Bodmin, this is the ideal base from which to explore Cornwall.
Run by Margo and Rob Kirkwood, it is an idyllic setting without the chaos and parking issues of towns, and with ample room to relax and enjoy your holiday. I will attach a couple of photos of the accommodation, but this is an old barn that has converted into exceptionally nice living space, with a huge communal lounge and great garden views along the back of the house.
Margo and Rob are an ex-pat Scottish couple who go out of their way to make you comfortable, and certainly succeed in this objective. They are more like a new pair of friends than landlords, and part of the charm of the place is having a quiet chat with either after a day's outing.
They have ample information to point you in the right direction, and will provide you with such a filling breakfast that you can go all day without needing much in the way of lunch. Margo is an artist as well as host, and her paintings and drawings can be seen on various walls.
The fees are very reasonable, and we found them far more relaxed than other B&B owners whose policies are far more stringent and less flexible.
We traveled between Menkee Barns and the main sights of Cornwall during our 4 day visit, and saw the major tourist destinations including Land's End, Penzance, St Ives, Port Isaacs, and the Eden Project plus many more delightful towns. Menkee Barns is central to all, and an easy drive to almost anywhere. Menkee Barns has to be top of your list if looking for an ideal B&B in Cornwall.
