“Not Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

In September I wrote a review on ther Travel Lodge in Calgary declarimg it "The Worst Ever!" and vowed to always check the reviews before booking in the future. So I did check the reviews for the Barrhead Neighbour Inn for my November trip to a hockey tournament with my son. One review said "Worst Ever" for the Barrhead Neighbourhood Inn..much like my review of the Travelodge in Calgary. But there was no way it could worst then The Travelodge in Calgary. I was going to find out first hand which was worst. I am please to report that my son and I had a nice stay at the Barrhead Nieghourhood Inn. Good room at a reasonable price. Quite, clean, ordorless. The room came with hot breakfast buffett which was fine. So the Barrhead Neighbourhood Inn is not even close to "The Worst Ever" experience...it was good!

Do not stay here. The entire hotel stinks of baby powder you can feel the springs in the mattress and the pillows where lumpy. I ha water damage on the ceiling and 2 walls in my room and stains all over the carpet. I had to go and buy air fresheners just to stay there. Have you ever meen somewhere you just feel like bugs are crawling on you with out actually seeing any ? Well this is the place. On the upper side we ha breakfast there 2 times and dinner. The restaurant was verry good. Had to believe it was attached to the same building.

I'm sitting in my room on the main floor of the Barrhead Neighbourhood Inn. My computer is set up on the small round table in the corner where the microwave was when I first came in. There's no desk. Three of the four walls are painted cement block and the two pastoral prints, one above the table and one above the bed, have fake gilt gold frames. It looks and feels like I've stepped back in time.

Having said that, the carpet looks new-ish, and the bed feels like it might be new as well. It looks like the couch will fold out. The furniture is worn but reasonably clean. If the water pressure is ok too, this is a reasonable place to spend the night. It's not depressing. There's a restaurant in the lobby, but I'm ordering in.

Oh wait. This hotel features the tiniest bars of soap I have ever seen. Literally, an inch and a half wafer no more than an eighth of an inch thick. And you have to lather hard to make them work. And there's no security chain on the door. And the shower takes a long time to warm up ... and I hear from a friend in another room that the heat doesn't work. A portable heater has been ordered.
