“Totally Worthless!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We made a reservation and it was closed and no one was there when we showed up. They charged us anyway. There is no way to contact them and now we are out of money and had to pay another place nearby to stay. STAY AWAY!!! Go to the Vulcan Country Inn down the road. I repeat, STAY AWAY!

Paid $65 for small 11x7' room with 1 double bed, themed 'The John Deere' room. It's kitschy for a 100 year old hotel. Steeped in history, it's pretty cool to learn its history and walk the halls and stay in the rooms of a place that has had dignitaries and vagabonds, farmers, miners and regular folk stay in for over a century. We drove past the other motel in Vulcan... By the looks from the outside of the other inn I wasn't even wanting to think about the inside, so i believe it was a good choice to stay at The Vilcan Hotel. Overall it was a good stay; beds/linens were comfortable and staff and patrons were all good characters and good people. Plus!!! I didn't even meet any Trekies (maybe they prefer to stay out under the stars).

Yes, I'd stay here again if I were staying in Vulcan, but Claresholm or Calgary aren't that far away.

This is a hotel that was MOVED in 1912. So with the knowledge that we would be staying in an OLD hotel above a tavern, we were off.

What helped us choose this inexpensive hotel was some photos on hotels.com - we didn't book through them though as the price to book directly with the hotel was the same.

We stayed in 206 - the Safari room. I liked all the personal touches that the person arranging the rooms added. There were safari themed wall hangings, comforter and sheets and towels.

The room is quite small with a bathroom retro fitted. The walls do not go to the ceiling, but a nice little bathroom nonetheless. Nice but small shower with a showerhead that doesn't move (but was fine for us). Reasonably new sink and toilet, all quite clean. Old floor and ceiling. Both could use some repair but didn't bother us. The floor was mostly covered with carpets and matts.

The bed was very comfortable - better than my Moms! It was a double with comfy sheets and comforter.

The room has good cable TV with lots of channels (old school tube tv). Below the TV there is a mircowave and fridge. Very handy. The window had a fan unit inserted in it, we couldn't get the window open (though to be fair we weren't too hot anyways). We did not turn the fan on.

The lady who helped us at the Tavern (the check-in area) was very nice.

Couldn't get the internet to work with the supplied code.
