“Location!! Opposite the ruins.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Loved this little Hotel, right across the road from the Ancient town destroyed by Vesuvius in AD79.
The place was welcoming, very clean, nice bathroom and the breakfast was great too, lots of croissants, cornflakes, cappuccinos, juices, etc. nothi g hot but better than the normal continental breakfast.

Room Tip: One of the nicest budget hotels we have used. Also free Wifi, parking at the post office down the ro...

My husband and I stayed here for one night.

The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, everyone spoke a little English and the waiter was fluent having lived in bath for many years before returning to his home town.

There is no parking but the staff went with us to show us the nearest free parking.

The rooms was spotlessly clean, had a comfortable double bed and a single bed (which we didn't need), a wardrobe, dressing table and bedside cabinets. We did need to pull the dressing table away from the wall slightly to access the power sockets but that was because we needed an adaptor for our UK appliances.

The en-suite shower room was spotless as well. The shower was not as small as some we have had and also had side sprays which made for a most invigorating shower experience and not what I expected in a basic hotel.

We arrived between lunch and dinner but having asked if some food would be possible we were offered a light lunch of antipasti and bread which was well made, tasty and beautifully presented.
As we were only visiting Ercolano to see the excavations we did not explore the town and stayed in the hotel for dinner that evening as well. Dinner which was cheap, consisted of antipasti, pasta course, meat/fish course and dessert, including a jug of locally produced wine for 15Euro a head.

Breakfast was basic, this is the case in most Italian hotels, pastries and bread, with coffee, not to the taste of a lot of British but as the saying goes "when in Rome...".

The following day, after we had checked out my husband asked where we could find a cash point machine nearby. Again a member of staff guided him to the nearest bank.

Overall this is a lovely little hotel, in an ideal location for a visit to Herculaneum, it is cheap, basic but comfortable with fantastic staff who cannot do enough to help.

this hotel has no fire/smoke detectors, no fire safety instructions, no fire extinguishers, no fire fighting equipment and is a potential death trap in the the case of fire. Beds were camp beds, breakfast was minimal, fresh food left out until eaten, no tea/coffee making facilities, no lift. Just managed to obtain second cup of coffee at breakfast
Its just across the road from Herculaneum.

Right outside the gates to Herculaneum. A 10 minute walk from the train station - Circumvesuvian - plenty of minibuses here to take tourists up to Vesuvius. We drove up very twisty road only to find parking was full so would recommend the minibus option. Very easy to get a train to Pompeii and also Sorrento and Naples. However Ercolano as a place is a suburb of Naples and on reflection we wish we had stayed in Sorrento! The hotel was disappointing although the room was very clean and spacious for 5 of us.It seemed be run by a couple of young men who spoke no English and made little attempt to communicate and to whom guests were a bit of an inconvenience. A couple of older men around who made more of an effort to smile! Great pressure to eat in the restaurant but it was too expensive for 5 of us we found a good little pizzeria next door which was much more affordable for family eating. Breakfast was not good - they seemed surprised that we requested fruit juice for the children and on both mornings had to go out and buy some.Had to wait ages for coffee to be brought to us . Generally the two young chaps were not very attentive or smiley. The hotel was not accepting cards and ATM machines in Ercolano were unpredictable. No parking for the hotel but you could park in the post office car park if you were lucky enough to find a space. Hotel situated at the junction of two roads so a constant cacophany of horns! Our room did have a working fridge which was useful for storing picnic supplies.
