“Beautiful camp, staff weak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

The camp is located in a perfect position in the park, right near the base of Las Torres and the start to Los Cuernos. We stayed in a suite dome, which was beautifully furnished and had a fire when we arrived. The beds were huge with lovely bedding. The bathroom was freezing although they do have heaters which the staff can sort out for you. The domes are located in such a way that you feel completely private and we had a fantastic view of the Torres. It is all very peaceful and respectful of its surroundings. We had one dinner while we were there whereby you receive a cocktail and snacks before dinner which is a nice touch. We did all the treks on our own which is completely do-able.
While we rate this camp highly and it looked like one of the best in the park - if not the best (we visited a lot of the others while we were there), the staff were incredibly, incredibly weak. We arrived in the evening after a very long drive. The young lady who received us did not even utter the word "hello/ welcome". She rushed off to get a man who could speak English. He too did not welcome us. There were no introductions or any offers of advice during our entire duration of our stay. When we left, we had the same experience. I am not sure if it was because we were not part of a group that we were almost ignored. I saw that the guides were friendly and ate dinner with their guests. The staff aspect was a big surprise for us, as Lorena who had been in correspondence with us before our arrival via email was incredibly helpful and friendly. Staff can make or break a place and this place (for individual trekkers) was a huge disappointment.

Hello! Thank you very much for your feedback. We are pleased that you profited from the location at the foot of the Torres and that you found your domes comfortable and private and enjoyed the food and drinks available in the evening! However, we are disappointed to hear that your experience of our staff was less than favourable- we pride ourselves on employing passionate, knowledgeable staff who will cater to the needs of those trekking as a group as well as those trekking individually. We have therefore passed on your comments to customer services and to Lorena, who will investigate your case and get back to you in due course. We apologise once again and wish you all the best.
Kind regards,

Roseanne

We booked a dome at the ecocamp without realizing that it didn t have heating. We arrived after 6 hrs driving from Calafate and we realized that we had to sleep there at 0 degrees without heating! After a deep thinking and of course by realizing that there was no other open hotel nearby we decided to try it! And i m so glad we did!
It was not cold at all and for this we stayed for a second night!
The place is amazing and not only the rooms but also the dining room.
The sky at night was amazing and the whole experience was like a real contact with the nature!
The shared bathroom was very clean and the atmosphere at the living room was really cozy where you could spend time with the test people staying there.
Friendly staff and guides.
I would describe the whole thing as a luxurious camping experience because it was not cheap at all. On the contrary its highly priced.
Something that could be better is the dinner because given its price it was not plenty and so much tasty.
After 12 days in LATAM this is the first stay that i describe to my friends because its really mot just a stay, but a total experience.

Holá! Thank you very much for your comments. We are sorry that the lack of heating in your dome came as a shock to you- we try to make it as clear as possible on our web guides which domes come with which facilities and we are sorry if this was not made clear enough for you. We are glad, however, that you managed to have a wonderful experience at EcoCamp and that you found our facilities comfortable and of a high standard of cleanliness. We hope to welcome you again for another ‘experience’!
Saludos,
Roseanne

The journey to get to Torres del Paine is worth every minute, and the Ecocamp has a perfect spot with picture postcard view of 2 of the 'Torres'. The Eco-friendly domes are comfortable and cosy, and the guides obviously love their jobs, and their enthusiasm for the national park is infectious. They are helpful and knowledgeable in the history, flora and fauna of the park. We did the safari trip so returned to the camp each night after our treks. We did treks to the base of the Torres, trip to Grey Glacier, and a fauna trail, all of which we could recommend as great days out. The communal dining was a good way of catching up with people who had been on different trips. The dinners were good, not great, but we weren't expecting fine dining, so this did not have a negative impact on our stay. At night the sky was lit up by stars, and we lay on the sun loungers in the grounds to watch the satellites and shooting stars. An experience we will not forget!

Room Tip: Stayed in a superior dome, so had own bathroom and heater. Very comfortable and cosy.

Hello! Thank you very much for your comments. You’re right- the location at the foot of the Torres del Paine is so picturesque! We are glad that you appreciated this prime location. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the company of our guides and of fellow trekkers and that you enjoyed the communal dining experience. However, we are sorry that you were not completely satisfied with your meals- our specialist chefs do strive to provide high quality food and drink for our guests. Do not hesitate to get in contact with somebody from the Cascada team to pass on any suggestions or comments to our chefs, should you have any,
Best wishes,

Wonderful location with a very friendly staff, stunning views of the Torres and a laudable approach to Eco-tourism. The beauty of the park and the treks are absolutely wonderful and not to be missed by anyone interested in the great outdoors. The accommodations include geodesic domes with private baths, propane heaters in the baths and wood burning stoves in the bedrooms or domes with no heat and shared bathrooms in separate buildings. Almost everything else is the same for the two groups. The guides are friendly and work very hard, but are not well informed about the flora and fauna so that they are unable to fully elaborate beyond naming things. Also understand that regardless of what your itinerary says the hikes are chosen based on factors over which you have little control, such as the weather which is fully understandable but also on where they went the day before or where the group wants to go. As for the food it isn't bad, they are very generous with the portions and local wines, but they are putting too much emphasis on presentation at the expense of getting a hardy meal on the table that is hot instead of cool to cold.

Room Tip: Suites have wood stoves and heater in bathroom other rooms have neither.

Holá! Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you appreciated our optimal location right at the foot of the Torres and our passion for eco-friendly tourism. We are sorry, however, that you felt as if you had little say in the activities that you took part in during your stay. We make it clear in our itineraries that EcoCamp reserves the right to modify treks and routes for security reasons as well as others, but we hope that, whatever the circumstance, a suitable trek route is found which caters to the needs of everybody. We appreciate your comments regarding the meals and have passed them on to customer services.
We hope that you enjoyed your stay overall and that you will visit again in the future.
Best,
Roseanne

Eco-camp is a beautiful place, different domes in the middle of the nature at the foot of the Torres.
Super Eco with very friendly staff. The location is perfect to do excursions and to come back in the evening, on time to admire the incredible sky full of stars.
To be Eco is expensive especially in a park in Patagonia so many it is not ideally for back packers. We wanted to do this experience but we could stay only one night because we have to go around for an other month...

Room Tip: If you want to have a private bathroom you have to choose the suite dome.

My husband and I stayed at Ecocamp Patagonia as part of our honeymoon and had such a wonderful time - the guides were great, the food was delicious and hearty (which is what you need because it is always cold in that part of the world!), and the accommodation was wonderful and cosy. We decided to upgrade for a suite so we had our own bathroom and heater, and I would definitely recommend this option.

Eco Camp is a great destination for those who love nature, trekking, outdoors living, but appreciate a hot shower and warm sheltered bed at the end of the day. We spent 4 nights in Ecocamp and 2 nights in refugios while doing the W circuit. It was really nice to arrive at night at Ecocamp and be greeted with a pisco sour and snacks before dinner. Food and service was very good, the staff was friendly and helpful.

We booked with Cascada Expediciones and since the very first mail to the moment we met our guides, every day until the last one we felt that everything was taken care of. We chose to upgrade to a superior dome with a bathroom inside and heating worth the extra money.

We traveled in shoulder season at the beginning of the fall (first week of April) and had great climate. Another plus of traveling at this time is that the refugios are not as crowded as in the summer, and the time spent waiting for bathrooms or food is minimal.

Our guides, Roberto and Danny were very knowledgeable, and above all really passionate about what they do. They took excellent care of us, and made sure we were doing ok, not only when hiking, they also proved excellent companion while eating or playing Jenga at night.

I read some comments of people not satisfied with the quality of services or with the value; perhaps they went there expecting a five star resort. In my opinion, Ecocamp is the perfect destination if you want to spend one week away from civilization and hiking in one of the most beautiful places in the world. They definitely provided us with a week of great memories.
