The museum is big and there are some interesting displays. However, the layout is confusing (confused?) and the majority of the explanations are in Japanese. The highlights were the volcano live cam and the movie theatre, which, even though a bit of an old technology now, was spectacular (a bit kitsch too, but I like that).
However, I found the price too high. For volcano fans only or if you have 2 hours to kill under the rain.
