“Very nice Japanese Onsen Lodge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

This is a good Japanese Onsen Lodge which is near Aso (about 30-40 minute drive)with reasonable price. The lodge is furnished with many timber and local flowers. Instead of having traditional male and female onsen bath, it has four private onsen rooms sharing between the guests. The room is spacious and clear with fully equipped bathroom and complete in-room provision (including a safety box). The host lady in charge is very enthusiastic, caring and helpful. For the food, as usual, my package includes both breakfast and dinner. The first night dinner is a Japanese style BBQ with delicious seafood and beef. The second night is traditional Japanese feast, including mouth watering sashimi, grilled crab and local beef. The breakfast is also up to the standard. The host is also very considerate that she prepares the take away rice balls and local steam water every morning before we depart for our tour. In short, at this price level, this is a very good option for Japanese style accommodation if your want to visit Aso and nearby region.

Room Tip: This lodge prefers paying in cash, so please reserve sufficient cash for payment.

We have visited this Ryokan several times and it is always the highlight of our trip. The traditional Japanese rooms are all really clean and well appointed and the staff are polite and courteous.

On arrival, you are served tea and cake and made to feel very welcome.

In the evening, it is always such a treat to be able to don your yukata and go down to the hot spa, followed by an amazing meal in the restaurant. In the restaurant you are given a selection of fish and meat to cook over a wood fire in the centre of your table and the food is absolutely delicious! The owner of the hotel is also happy to serve you a ladle sake from a beautiful bowl surrounded by flowers.

The breakfast is also quite an experience and one of the best beakfasts we had on our trip to Japan.

If you are visiting Aso you really should stay at this Ryokan. I would definitely recommend it!

This traditional ryokan is a little gem. The food is terrific. If you eat in the dining room, you cook your food on a wood fire. The sashimi is terrific. Wonderful Japanese breakfast and dinner is included. There are four different hot baths each open to the outside. The traditional Japanese rooms are small but very comfortable. The owner speaks Englsh. The service is great. Very popular with Japanese families. It is 30 minutes from Aso San.
