On our trip to Taiping, we decided to stop at this Kedai Tepi Sungai at Port Weld (Kuala Sepetang), located around 25 mins away from Taiping town. Heard good reviews from other family members, me & my grandma (yes, 2 of us only & my grandma has been there before!) decide to have lunch there.
The restaurant is not that easy nor difficult to look for as once you're at Kuala Sepetang you have to gamble to look for the exact restaurant since I've never been there before. The restaurant is actually located at the river bank and located upstairs. The ground floor is the 'landing' area for seafood produce. Besides that there are few small traders selling crackers, love letters & dried seafood there. The stairs upstairs are quite narrow & dark and due to low tide of the river at that time, its quite smelly.
The restaurant has the view of a river bank where you can see fishing boats docking & operating.
We ordered Coconut Juice & Kedondong juice to satisfy our thirst after hours of driving from KL. We ordered the specialty of the shop which is fried baby crabs which is very crispy and it is served with the famous Kampung Koh Chili Sauce to dip with. The baby crabs look alike spiders. But as for me, the fried 'spiders' is crispy and tasty enough. We also ordered butter prawns, fried kalian, lala kam heong and also fried noodles. The portion was way to big for the two of us. I think that they cooked for medium portion even to cater smaller crowd, like the 2 of us. The butter prawns was nicely done and juicy. Lala kam heong was tasty as well. But the fried noodles was not tasty at all. We should just opt for rice or fried rice. Since the portion is huge, we 'tapao' the left overs and the bill was 'reasonable' but much reasonable if there is bigger crowd to cater the size of the dish that was prepared for us.
Definitely a "must" stopover if I am heading to Taiping!
