“Royal Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

If you are looking for amazing time, quiet place, and extra special service, this is a place for you. A side from 90 minutes ride from santa Clara Airport, everything is just a breath taking.
The entire concept of this resort is made the way to help you rest and enjoy. There is nothing disturbing, nothing too much, every setail is taking care off, with class and elegance. The choice of restaurants and quality of food is just not to believe. Every night the theme is changing, and you can enjoy more and more. Food is prepared with a special touch, and wines are great. Service is 10+ in entore resort , in all areas. General manager is always there to help, as well as fantastic Battler Javier, or anyone. They are just great fantastic people, who love their jobs. Rooms are very good as well. There is a something for everyone. I went for spa treatment and it was good. Beach is clean, small is just perfect. Every night there is a concertos at several different places, one at restaurant, one at the bar... You can enjoy your drink made especially good by Osmany, and listen chello sonata with piano,.or sit in a pool area and enjoy water-show by ballet performers.... It is all good.
Will come back many more times, for sure.
I will add photos in couple of days.
We took the tour to Santa Clara, and it was really good to see it.

Room Tip: We wanted Ocean view and building 10 was amazing. 1-6 are sunset

We stayed the week of Oct 15 2011. This was our second time on Cayo Santa Maria as we stayed at the Melia Cayo Santa Maria the first time and really enjoyed it. But the Buenavista, what a treat! the first surprise is that our favorite Pool Bar Drink runner from Melia Cayo Santa Maria was now running the Pool Bar at Buenavista! Orestes makes the best drinks on the Island! He workes hard, makes sure you are taken care of and always has a smile! Having a good Pool Bar bartender is key to a great holiday experience and Orestes makes it a memorable one, Thanks for all the great Rum Punches! Ok enough about Orestes, I'm sure he'll get a Promotion... But the beaches were also very nice and quiet. there were actually two to choose from and there was always someone running drinks to the beach so we never got dehydrated. One of the best things about this resort is that it is small and everything is close. The Butler service was great, Michael and Lucas did a great job making sure we were well taken care of. Having them come to you to book dinners is way better than having to wait in line during pre set hours like at other hotels. The food was also great, probably the best food I've had in my 7 trips to Cuba. The cool part was we could also go to Las Dunas and the Melia as well, so variety was not an issue. I think my favorite meal was ordering Pizza's for lunch by the pool, can't beat it.
Regarding the rooms, very clean and spacious! and the bar was always stocked with what ever you wanted, if you wanted 6 beers, you would get it!
I was a little leary about the outdoor shower, but they were actually very cool, and it's actually not really easy to see in, so don't be shy.
I think one of the cool things was that even though the service was great, no one constantaly had their hands out, if you wanted to tip for something, it would be because you wanted to, not because you felt obligated to, that really made things much more comfortable.
All in all, this resort was exactly what I was looking for, peace and quite, nice beach, good drinks! I know the entertainment staff was a bit bored, but I like hanging around the pool and only having to listen to the background music.
I think one thing that has changed recently at this resort is there is a new manager in place and in talking to the employees, they really like him. I think he has the right idea and I know he has the respect of the employees, so it's a good combination to have and you can see that they are happy.
anyways would definately go back to this little piece of Paradise.

Room Tip: we had a room that had a patio door to the second pool very nice to walk out to the Pool

How can you rate a hotel that exceeded your expectations? From the private bus for our group of 18 to the arrival at one of the most pristine hotels I have ever been too, to the exceptional staff who waited on us; this was it! 6 Stars! We've been to Melia Cayo (2xs) and Las Dunas and truly fell in love with this hidden gem of an island. This was our 7th trip to Cuba and we will certainly return to Buenavista in a heartbeat. Here's why.1)THE STAFF: Orestes and Norge at the Pool bar were awesome and hardworking. Never had to wave them down for a drink or wait a long time for a refill, they were always on top of it and for our group of 18, that was a lot of work. We all enjoyed their camaraderie and if you wanted champagne at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, they opened a bottle for you! (Ernesto- do NOT ever get rid of Orestes and Norge, they are worth their weight in gold!).2) Lily-- she's adorable and thank you for remembering us from way back in 2007! And btw: at this resort, your beach towels are in your room already & you do not have to leave $10 in pesos to rent them for a week. Need a fresher towel? Go see Lily! 3) My girl Yaise! She would come by to be sure that all was well with us, be it poolside or in the restaurants. Thank you for being so attentive Yaise! 4) The Food: simply delicious, each night a different theme and more haute-cuisine instead of boring buffet and the wines were fabulous, both reds and whites. Mexican doesn't need to include Tacos people-- go to Taco Bell for that! The Lobby bar makes the best cappuccinos fyi. Enjoy a Mimosa for breakfast at the buffet if you like! 5) Hotel cleanliness--top notch. Never saw any debris lying around and the hard plastic patio-type glasses were always cleaned in the dishwasher, not just rinsed. 6) Snorkeling was supposed to be good but unfortunately, during our stay we were hit with some high winds and the beach would be yellow/ red-flagged-- but again that's the gamble this time of year. Liked the fact though that when you arrived on the beach, a chair guy was there to brush off your lounger and arrange it to your liking. That's that extra top notch service. 7) The rooms were beautifully laid out and the king size beds comfortable. Loved the outdoor showers and if you are shy, hang your beach towels for modesty. Btw: don't hesitate to call your butler if your shower is cold--they'll be right on it. As well the room service was a bonus at no extra charge. Thanks Javier for accommodating our dinners. For people looking for glitches, yes there were, very minor and easily forgotten; but if the power going out for a few minutes at the end of your massage is a problem-- then you need to book another massage. I would only recommend to Ernesto that the outdoor lights, especially the stairwell lights go on earlier at night please as it was a little tricky to descend the stairs some nights. Finally I would like to acknowledge and thank Ernesto (The Matador from Madrid!) for his hard work and dedication to seeing this resort become Cuba's premier luxury hotel. You are on the right track Ernesto and your staff is wonderful, right down to the friendly gardeners who greeted my husband and I warmly every morning. Our group was very honoured to be the 1st to enjoy the romantic poolside BBQ dinner and we will certainly hope to be back again in 2012. Congratulations Melia Buenavista, you are the reason we keep coming back to Cuba!

Room Tip: The rooms are all fabulous but if you are traveling with family/friends who may have knee troubles...

We stayed at this hotel from 8th to 22nd October. After the all the poor reviews in the Summer I was getting worried as to whether we had made a mistake by not going back (yet again) to the Paradisus Rio de Oro. Thankfully all the issues reported have been resolved and we had a fabulous holiday.

The food was very good, always hot and the service excellent. The menu is the same each night in one of the restaurants and the other has themed nights, e.g. Cuban, Oriental, Italian, Mexican and a Gala night. Live musicians in the restaurants are very good.

There’s a new Manager, Ernesto, who started there the week before we arrived and he was a constant sight around the resort, chatting to guests and staff at all times of the day and night. He was also asking guests for their opinions, what they like and what they would like to see there. He even gave us a couple of lifts in his car, one afternoon we were sat in the lobby of the Las Dunas waiting for the bus and he saw us and offered us a lift back and another occasion we missed the bus for our evening meal and he gave us (and another lady) a lift to the other hotel. What a gent!

While we were there the patio area infront of the lobby bar was transformed with new decking and then on our last day 6 big palm trees were planted around it (gave us something to watch on a cloudy day by the pool!). They also got the fountains working just before we left.

As others have commented the gardeners work so hard and are constantly planting and weeding but always have a cheerful smile and wave for the guests.

We spent most of our days by the main pool and sometimes there were only 6-8 people there, it was very peaceful. No matter how busy it was, Orestes would bring us drinks at our sunbeds or even to the pool without us asking, he knew the different drinks we had depending on the time of the day!

Lucas was our butler and he looked after us well. There was a lovely spa bath waiting for us with a bottle of red wine and glasses one day when we returned from the pool. He would also arrange for wine to be left in the room without us asking. One day we hadn’t booked dinner as we were meeting friends at the Las Dunas but he made us a reservation just in case we needed it.

The slight negative that I have is the lobby bar. It’s enclosed and air conditioned (which isn’t such a bad thing) but as the décor is very contemporary and the music not particularly Cuban/Caribbean in style, the overall feeling was that we could be in any hotel bar in any major city in the world. Having said that the staff were very attentive, efficient and friendly especially the young waiter who hasn’t been there very long (I’m really sorry that I can’t remember his name).

There’s a band that plays in the restaurant on the Cuban nights and they are excellent, the singer has a fantastic voice and they also played by the pool afterwards getting people up dancing. Other evenings there was music around the pool (dependant on the weather) which is a good move as it gives people the option of staying inside or not.

Would I recommend this hotel? Definitely, to anyone that wants to chill out and be pampered but not to anyone that wants a lively action packed holiday!

Will we return? Definitely!

Just came back from one of the best vacations my husband and I had. We have been to several resorts, but this one is by far the best! The staff will do anything to please you. Butler service is amazing, they book all your a la carte dinners for you, make sure your room is perfect. We came to our room at around 5:00pm after spending the day at the beach and heard quiet music playing and thought we had forgotten to turn off the tv, but looking further we discovered a path of rose petals on the floor leading to the large jacuzzi, filled with warm bubbles, a bottle of champagne and a note from our butler.

They have 24hrs room service that we enjoyed one morning and had the best eggs benedict I have tasted. If you want a bottle of wine in your room, they will bring it to you.

Service on the beach and pool side is non stop all day. They ask you where you would like to sit and then fix your chair with a cushion and towel and ask you what you would like to drink. Even if you want to go to one of the bars and order your drinks, they will still bring it to you. We never stood in line for dinner or at the bar.

Beaches are beautiful and quiet!!!!! You have 3 to choose from, you could literally be all alone on the beach. Snorkeling is very popular.

Our room was wonderful, large, clean. Bathroom was very nice, with a seperate toilette and bidet room. Outdoor shower was great and very private!!!

However, being a new hotel they did lack certain items. The hotel shop is very small and have nothing in the way of medications. Simple things like Pepto, Tylenol, Bandaides, Bug spray are no where to be found! Make sure to pack bug spray, the mosquitos are nasty even though the hotel sprays twice a day!

We will return to this hotel in a heart beat!!!!

Room Tip: We stayes in room 1422, aparently on of the best ones, balcony was beach front and private, large e...

We arrived on Oct. 22, 2011 for 1 week. Quite cloudy upon arrival but after the bus ride, the sun had come out. Beautiful hotel, very clean, small and adult only; very quiet. Food good but after a while, it gets boring. No buffet. Wine ok, drinkable. A lot of fish, and beef. If you want langousta, ask for it and be determined. They won't give it to you unless you order room service. But in the restaurants, they do not advertise it. We ate a lot and they were very nicely cooked. Our butler, Javier, was excellent as was Yesia. The pool and lobby bartenders were very kind and polite. We had good weather and some rain around supper time twice. They spray insecticide around the complex, it is awful but helps with mosquitoes. We had gone to the Buenavista for relaxation and peace, and we got that. We paid $1045 for the week each. I would not have quoted it a 5* if we had paid $1400 and up. I would have been disappointed with the food! The room was excellent, our room was 0712.

We just got back from our annual group friends trip south. We have been to many destinations in Cuba and to Panama, Dominican, etc, but this resort is by far our best ever. The manager Ernesto made this trip for our group so special. From the minute we arrived in our group VIP bus to the massage, to the special by the pool dinner party just for us (with BBQ lobster, shrimp and shish kabobs) our group was spoiled. We love you Orestes and Norge and all of our friends who provided us not only top notch service but became fast friends. The resort grounds are beautiful it is a perfect size (please don't make it bigger). The outdoor showers were wonderful. The turn down service with chocolates, and flowers in the room were wonderful. The food was fantastic! We loved every meal and the service in the restaurants was great. We did the catamaran ride and the new dolphin area is fantastic. We have been to Cayo Santa Maria 3 times before (2 x to Melia Cayo Santa Maria and 1 x to Las Dunas). This hotel far exceeds these two (Las Dunas is too big and impersonal). Thank you again Ernesto and all your staff for making this trip the best one ever! Your friends from Ontario (group of 18)!!! We will be back.
