“Basic clean accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

I spent a weekend in tobermery and Adventure Inn provided a clean good satisfactory accomodation for 2 nights. Room was very clean and everything worked well, and in the area I spent little time in my room. The small grounds are peaceful with birdfeeders and a small pond. There was no food available at the hotel, fridge in room worked well. Front staff was not that friendly but efficient. Area can be expensive on long weekends and availibility is limited so I think the price was OK. Yes I would stay again.

Very nice place to stay while visiting Tobermory and the National Parks of the Bruce Peninsula. Property is new and well kept. Room was spacious with two Queen beds, seating, and roomy bathroom. The layout of the room is more space efficient. Staff were very polite and helpful during our one night stay. Nice seating area and hot tub available.

My partner and I spent the weekend in Tobermory and are so thankful to the person who cancelled their room and allowed us to get this last minute booking! We had initially been told that there was no vacancy so we were thrilled to get in. When we called and spoke with the hostess/owner she was so cheerful and pleasant on the phone, and she told us exactly which room we would be in so we could see it on line. I am really pleased to say that when we got there it looked exactly as it had in the pictures and we were not at all disappointed! The owner was reaaly sweet and when she learned that we had arrived on a bike she immediately started swapping bike travel stories with us. It was like we had known her for years.

This place is not only a home away form home, it is also bike friendly, which is really nice. We met two other couples that had trevelled there on bikes during our stay and the whole atmosphere was wonderful. The room was extremely clean and the sheets smelled really fresh and not sterile at all. We also loved the little lilly pond, the resident cat, and the gardens. The hot tub was an added bonus that we had not expected, and our only wish there was that it had been a bit hotter.

We walked back and forth to the village several times during our stay and I would say it took between 7 and 10 minutes max to walk from the room to downtown. Although it is along a highway it is a one lane highway, not an expressway, and there is a very wide paved shoulder to walk on so we felt completely safe.

The cost is a little higher than we have paid for some places but it is standard pricing for the area. Tobermory is a tourist town that books up fully in the summer, so we expected to pay a bit more for a room. All in all it was worth every penny, and we would defintitely go back again.

Room Tip: You can view all of the rooms on line, and the pictures are very accurate.

In some respects, i feel The Bruce Inn deserves a 4, and other respects, it should only get a 2.5, so i'm splitting the difference and giving it a 3.... We stayed there with our 2 young boys.

Why it should get a 4:

The inn looks great from the outside and the grounds are very nice. It looks to be very new and quality built... Our room, a 2nd floor queen with a sofa bed, was ultra clean. It had a fridge (always a plus for us)... The bathroom was spotless. Location is a short drive from downtown Tobermory, but far enough where you're away from the fray....

Why it shouldn't get a 4:

We thought the price (about $150/nite) was kinda steep for what we got: a single queen with a sofa bed.... It was too small for both our boys to sleep in, so my wife had to improvise and stick more furniture together to make a bigger sleeping surface for them.... At that price point, i feel the room should have 2 queens and perhaps at least provide a continental breakfast, even if it's just coffee and donuts, or english muffins or whatever.... There was coffee in the lobby, however...and it was good.

As mentioned, the room/bathroom was spotless, but so much that it seemed sterile.... Why? Because i feel very little thought was put into how to make their hotel rooms warm and inviting, given their location and the curb appeal of the property: No pictures on the GLOSSY painted walls (glossy paint belongs in the kitchen and bathroom , NOT in the living area!)....the fluorescent lighting made me feel like i was staying in a clean room in a Silicon Valley tech facility (the one exception was the bedside lamp). When installing fluorescent lighting, buy WARM colored lights! There was a single smallish, north-facing window that didn't provide much natural light, so even in the day, you have to turn on the above mentioned lights to see anything.... These all might seem nitpicky, but if i'm gonna stay in a place calling itself an "Inn", it should feel like an Inn, not a tech lab or an office... Also, while the queen mattress was fairly comfortable, it had a waterproof cover on it---not very pleasant to sleep on.... And finally, the owner seemed a bit cold and unfriendly.... Maybe he was having a bad day, one never knows....

So, overall, the place looks great from the outside and on their website.... But looks can be deceiving..... If they would just knock the price down some, warm the rooms up a bit, and maybe throw in a coupla pastries, this place would truly be great.........

Room Tip: Assuming all the rooms are pretty much the same, try to get a north-facing ground floor room, especi...

First of all a nice room. BUT, thin walls make for a lot of noise. A few minutes walk to Little Tub Harbour is actually an hour. No phone in the room. Good pizza, left the box on top of the fridge only to find it full of ants an hour later. Ants......lots of them in the room. No ice machine. No breakfast, even though we produced the brochure that clearly stated it was included. Free WIFI, but had to sit outside to get an unreliable signal. Laminated floors, no carpet, cold. Definitely not worth the 189/night!

Had I paid around $100 per night I might have felt a little less ripped off. Adventure the Bruce Inn is a basic motel located on the side of a highway. There was nothing about this place that could justify $160 per night except for that July is high season for Tobermory. Also, from what I can tell, the other motels/hotels in the area aren't much better. My recommendation would be to go camping or stay at a yurt at a nearby campground. That being said, Adventure the Bruce Inn is clean and the owners are pleasant. The walls between the rooms are definitely not sound proof. During our stay we could hear our neighbors drinking and talking just outside of their door. This motel is not located in town and unless you feel safe walking alongside the highway, you would need to drive back and forth. The wireless internet was not reliable.

Room Tip: Camp in the area instead.

Well located, close to restaurants, shops and parks. We enjoyed the hot tub in our room after a day of hiking.
