“Great family hols but not enough parasols”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

As always with Clubmed a great atmosphere, attentive staff, good food and amazing value. Tennis courts and tuition a bit below par and not enough parasols to go round at the pool but more than made up for by everything else especially the fantastic team at Baby club.

I booked this Club Med based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. We were spending 3 weeks in France and Italy and were looking for a beach resort to relax at, after all the sight seeing. However, upon entering this place and spending a day, I realized that the level of service is not what we had expected, and it is perhaps even a little notch below 3 tridents. The rooms are nice and the grounds gorgeous, but all other common areas are run down and in need of a face lift. There were so many tables in the restaurants that one could not walk between the tables. The whole place seemed more suitable for a population of 750 to 800, not the 1500 that we had to deal with. That said, Gianni, the chef de village and his GO team went out of their way to take care of our requests. Also, my sons, 14 and 9 years old had a blast. So, overall, if you go with the right expectations, you won't be disappointed.

The property is nicely located, great beach, lovely forest area, nice gardens/landscaping around the rooms. Food is ok but not authentic Italian, mozzarella v bad quality for example, ice cream was carte d'or, but you will not starve and pasta specials were usually really nice

We were there in august and with small kids there is a lack of shade at pool and beaches(sun was really hot). Rooms have a damp problem and are pretty basic tbh. On our first night when we arrived the bathroom was dirty, all the towels clearly used & strewn around the floor, despite asking 3 times they clearly had no intention of sending housekeeping to rectify- pretty bad service in my book. Also nobody to help with bags to our car when we checked out- its not the club med system apparently.

Service in the spa was atrocious- with my(french) husband we were taken aback by the recptionnist's snobbery and nastiness ( the customer is always wrong seemed to be her motto, she also had a slagging match with her colleague in front of us over dirty towels, not very high class)

On the plus side, if you are willing to run with it there is a nice atmosphere around the place and terrazza pool is great for young kids, sailing was a really nice experience, as was lunch at the beach restaurant. We took advantage of the babysitting at night and Pizzo was nice for an authentic dinner for the adults, tropea also worth a trip. I would recommend you try club med napitia if you are a family with kids as they are really well catered for and everyone will enjoy it.

i felt very sorry for any couples looking for a romantic / tranquil holiday, this is definitely not the place for that.

Room Tip: Request a room with a proper double bed near terrazza restaurant, we were given 2 singles shoved tog...

Writing this still in resort it's my second visit and it's just as good as I remember. A beautifully maintained resort with absolutely fabulous GO's who go that extra mile to make it personal. Good quality entertaient and shows choreographed by the lovely Michela (wrongly spelled appologies ). Great quality food suitable for all the family. Excellent ambience, relaxed and friend led by the debonair Chief Gianni. Lots to do Rocco and Victor on the sailing and Alex at the tennis ... Uk customers are made very welcome ... Don't think twice my 5th Club Med try it and u will be converted!!!

Good points of holiday:

-exciting and variable food available in two main restaurants we had some delicious food including steak tartare, fois gras (definitely try), shaishimi, authentic Italian pizza, great pasta. There was lots of choice but a lack of good olives! Negatively unlike other Club Meds there was no included “special restaurant” that you could book into for a change. There was a 3rd restaurant in the resort though it was chargeable and after the amount we had paid already we felt it was unreasonable to ask for more money once in the resort.

-AMAZING beautiful beach and luscious green mountains surrounding the resort. By far the best Club Med beach we have ever been too. Sweeping mountains and totally unspoilt coast line. Sea is the cleanest I have ever been in anywhere in the world.

-Pools were large and very pretty though as a family of 6 with young adult children they were too noisy and busy for us

-beautiful beach restaurant with fantastic views (wonderful location of beach restaurant distracted from limited menu)

-brilliant sailing and kayaking easily available and the least queuing out of any Club Med resort we have been too

Bad Points of holiday:

-No internet access throughout week as server repeatedly went down which seems ridiculous for a western country

-no cushions on the plastic sun loungers so they were seriously uncomfortable

-towels were terrible quality really scratchy and horrid

-don't know whether Club Med has started doing this across board but all drinks were given in small plastic cups which was a real annoyance especially in the boiling weather of the beach when you were hot and thirsty. The cups were so small you needed 3 to fill a standard size coke glass. Despite larger glasses being visible staff refused to let us have them instead forcing us to carry 3 smaller glasses instead or standing at the bar drinking several glasses before heading back to the beach.

-bar area was ugly and understaffed. Staff were very friendly but seriously overworked and it was always a chore going to the bar. As one particularly friendly English barman Tom told us “there is 4 of us on a bar meant to serve 1000 people a night” frankly impossible. Drink mixing was dubious alcohol seemed to be watered down and the “cocktails” seemed to taste different every day!

-at previous Club Meds there has been food available at all hours of the day with lavish spreads laid out for brunch and afternoon tea but at Napitia the food ALWAYS ran out and was usually very basic and unexciting- a real disappointment for my brothers who are hungry all the time.

Other observations

If we had not previously been on Club Med holidays I feel I would not be so critical as I have been however compared to other Club Med resorts it was run down. Paintwork was chipped and safes in 2 out of our 3 bedrooms didn’t work.

Overall the holiday was lovely and relaxing. Beach was beautiful but compared to other Club Med resorts it is definitely a poorer resort. Would I recommend the holiday- YES but was it value for money- NO.

ALSO as an aside Club Med Napitia is a resort ESPECIALLY FOR BABIES so be prepared. As we are a large family we did not mind too much but be prepared for lots of crying and unruly toddlers running around your feet as well as lots of noise around the pools!!! If you want a quiet holiday this is NOT for you!

We came to this club with very high expactations for 2 weeks. For some reason this time I decided to ignore tripadvisor's bad reviews and read the good ones that was a mistake. As oon as we arrived we realized it will be quite a task to stay here for two weeks. Everything here is very basic the rooms stink of muld the bed sheets are dirty and were not been washed for a while the main bar is horribly designed and a bot depressing there is no good alcohol only cheap. When we turn to the reception and main officer trying to shorten our trip in one week we fell on a deaf ear. They couldn't care less weather we enjoyed ourselves they only cared about their money. As a loyal club med visitors we were very disappointment with the treatment we received. I would not recommend this club at all!

staying at club med is always a pleasure This was however our first stay at a 3 stars and it made a difference. The rooms were very basic, and the towels were of low quality (even with holes). there was an regiment of ants occupying my room. The restaurants were clean but the choice was smaller then we were used to. The shows were repeted every week so if you stay longer then a week, you will spent 1 week sitting at the bar. there are 2 pools, the main pool (with crazy signs, activity and drinks at the bar) with a depth of 1.50, the pool at la terazza is more orientated to small children. the area around the swimming pool is made of concrete, so little stones are coming of and will hurt your feet. the area around the pool is closed and opens only at 9 am, so you can get there in time to get your sun bed. The way to the beach is long but beautiful between the cool forest. as always the GO are very nice, the team at the bar works very hard and even if there are not so many cocktails on the list, they will prepare everything you want (thanks to Armando for his mojitos with/out alcohol). the gym lessons are very good, thanks to Emilie, the fitness teacher. We had again a splendid time, an assurance you will get every time travelling with the club
