“Expect the Unexpected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

My son and I did a 4 day 3 night trip. Upon arrival at Male airport, we had to wait for 1 over hour before the speedboat came for us. The ride on the speedboat was pleasant.

Upon arrival at the hotel, I was again made to wait for my room. Luckily it was lunchtime and we were ushered to the big dining area for lunch.

Our room was the low 100s, quite close to the main lobby area but quite far from the secluded and beautiful part of the island. I guess one has to choose between being closer to the restaurants/lobby or beach. The waters facing the number 100s rooms had lots of twigs so it was not so nice to swim/snorkel in. The rooms from 200 onwards faced beautiful clear waters. Very clean, almost no twigs and superbly calm waters. One can already see the fishes without the masks.

I paid for full board as I did not want the hassle of bringing extra cash. The buffets were decent, not fantastic.

A must do is the dolphin watch. What an experience!

My room was furnished with the basics. Open concept wardrobe and toilet. Nice! As there was a thunderstorm for the 2 nights I was there, the tv signals had disruptions. On the last night, my room was half flooded as the winds blew the rainwater beneath the cracks of the door and windows. I had to call room service to clear up the mini flood which they did. I came back from dinner with the floor nicely cleaned up.

All in all, it was a nice little trip. I did not pay through my nose for this trip and yet, I do feel very well take care of.

Room Tip: If you prefer to be close to the restaurants as less walking is required, choose the low 100 numbere...

The best part of our stay there's nothing to do with the hotel (I refuse to call it a resort) but with the nature. If it wasn't for the extraordinary Lohis surfbreak it would suck.
The staff is completely unfriendly. Except for the gardeners, they are not pleased to serve or help you and they'll let you know that. You feel like you're in a zoombie movie.
The food is okay for the first couple of days. After a week you'd pay extra to eat in another restaurant (the sunset restaurant is good and expensive) because nobody (it was unanimou among all guests I spoke) can taste the flavor anymore.
You'll find less holes in the moon than on the tennis court.
My friend's beach villas had leaks and termites everywhere. At some point they've found a nice and tiny black mouse.
They have a so called "sunset bar" which closes at 6pm right when the sun starts to set. I advise you to order a couple of drinks 5 minutes to 6pm. The same happens with the pool bar. The most ridiculous part is that they make you get out of the pool and turn arround to order a drink - in the same bar but in a different side - and than go back to the pool.
You cannot hire any kind of boat or any transportation but the hotel's. And they charge it very expensively.
The watersports' staff doesn't seem to have very accurated information on the surf conditions. They scored 1 out of 2.
The most common frases you'll hear is "it's not allowed, sir". So get used to it. It seemed prety unusual to me since I thought I was staying in an all inclusive resort.
Putting it aside, the perfect, easy and not crowded lefts of Lohis made it worth it! We got great waves there!!

Room Tip: They say the ocean villas is a completely different hotel. So I think is better to stay there. And i...

We have been in this hotel with wife in July 2012. We choose Ocean Viila. Here is the overview:
Room: the room itself is spacious. Huge bathroom. There is terrace with direct entrance to the ocean.
Food: the breakfast was good. It was in separate room in the very beginning of the ocean villa's area. The food variety for lunch and dinner was poor. We had no problem with the quality. The special dinners are highly recommend (for extra charge)
Beach: we were a little disappointed with coral reef. Possibly, we simply couldn't reach good one due to strong current and waves
Spa: there 3 options for different spa procedures. One is near reception. The other 2 in SPA center. We visited all 3. The chinese one is good and very reasonably priced. The SPA center is very good, but more expensive.
Butler: there is a butler for ocean villa. He helps with different issues, drive you to the restaurant, etc. Ours was excellent
Tips:
1. Don't miss shark feeding. Ask personnel about time of feeding
2. Please keep in mind that ocean villas are in long distance from main destinations. Use cart.
3. There is long way from the island to villas through wooden bridge. It was windy and rainy in july. Walking sometimes was nasty.

We were here in late oct for 10 days. A lot of ppl complain about the food and rooms, but this isnt a 5 star resort, its at best 3. We have been traveling for months and this fit our budget and the purpose of going was to surf and snorkel, which both were AMAZING!! the only downside was the mattress and sheets. it was 2 twin beds put together and being sold as a queen ( we booked room 142. a beach villa) and the sheets were really rough and very scratchy. Ive stayed at less expensive places and had a better mattress and sheets, its not like we were expecting Egyptian cotton, but a little upgrade would really reflect better on this place. It has beautiful grounds and the men maintaining it were the friendliest of the bunch. Food ok, buffet, drinks were STRONG and the service was average...good for the price and waves!

I chose this island for three reasons: Their garden rooms matched my budget, I could take a speedboat transfer and The island was 'relatively' big.
Our experience was great. We stayed in the garden rooms for 3 nights only and we were sad to leave. The island has all kind of waves for all kind of moods. There is a windy side, a calm side of the island and also a side with big waves for surfers. Same with the bars, there are four bars with four moods. Beach bar for a quiet sea, Lohi's bar to see a windy sea, Dodhi bar for songs and music, Main bar for crowd and family gathering.
The beach villas and ocean villas look better than the photos. Staff were great, no one was rude, why do some people say that?
Take lots of mosquito repellent, a travel adapter and don't walk barefoot on the beach & shallow waters. The island is a great place to relax, also if you are looking for some activity, it is also there. So you will have a good time if you are looking for a good time in Maldives within a medium budget.

We flew from Glasgow to Male changing in Dubai with Emirates - brilliant experience - more luggage and legroom as standard and luggage checked all the way through along with 2 surfboard bags. Onboard entertainment great and food was like being in a restuarant.

Booked Holiday through Virgin Holidays - very helpful!
Got a speed boat transfer to hotel... not too long to wait, but would have been much better if staff kept us informed of progress (only prob about 30mins or so)..

Saw dolphins, and lots of flying fish on way to hotel in boat transfer... which was nice and fast.

Arrived at hotel and checkin process was nice and quick and got a welcome drink.
Room was 122 - perfect for us as close to restuarants and not too far to walk to the surf break... we went there to surf and it was the main reason for our holiday. Room air con was a little dodgy but room was perfect, better than we were expecting after reading reviews.

Surf was great the whole of the 2 weeks - not ideal for beginners as quite fast in sections and obviously a reef! We stayed mainly on the island as was nice and quiet at certain times of the day.

Food was brilliant - heard people whinging about this but always a great selection which varied from night to night (one side traditional maldivian cuisine, the other with western tastes), fresh fruit and puddings too.
All inclusive was fine - spirits a bit rought but we got used to them!

Yes okay its maybe not the typical 5 star luxury that maldives is known for... but go with an open mind and you will be happy... we were extremely so especially for the price.
And waves were great!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 122 - not too far from restuarant but quiet enough too!

this is the 2 time we stayed in this hotel, what can we say, the sea is amazing! the waves are GREAT

BUT! im writing this cause they must do something with the poor food variety
it didnt change in the week we were there and it seems like they are taking the food from the day be4 and changing something .. ( even the salads has no taste)

also what about a coconut for drinks ( there are so many on the trees) and some fresh fruit es juices?

I hope the hotel will read this, they have an amazing place and the spa is heaven just improve the food and it will be perfect:)

still, we will be back cause the waves are GREAT
