“A wonderfully relaxing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2008

Accommodation
We stayed in the deluxe beach appartment (rooms in blocks of 4) which was clean, very nicely decorated and furnished. It had a large modern shower room (walk-in shower). The only downside was the shower drain was a bit noisy so we covered it with a towel.

Facilities/entertainment
The only daytime activites were the hired watersports (which we did not do), the evening entertainment is very low key, kareoke one night or the in-house trio playing romantic songs.
The hotel offered about 5 different excursions, we did snorkeling which was really good, lots of fish ($22 pp), and sunset fishing which was good too.
The pool was lovely with lots of sunbeds, the beach was beautiful, clear calm sea with a few fish to look at. You do need to be up early to secure a good sunbed spot if want shade.

Food and drink
We went on B&B basis which worked out perfect for us as we could eat in 4 other restaurants. The breakfast was really good, lots of choice for many different diets/cultures in buffet style (with an egg chef). For the evening we ate mostly in the "cafe" which is similar to a nice restaurant in the UK. It overlooked the sea, there was lots of choice and the meals were plentiful ($14 - $26 pp). We also ate in the Thai and Mediterranean grill, the food was amazing and deff worth a visit (avergae $35 pp). We did not need lunch!
Drinks at the resort were £6 for a beer, £3.50 for a coke and $3.80 large bottle water).

Service
We received a high level of service from all the staff, they were always friendly and helpful. 10% tips are added to everything purchased.

Weather
Very hot and sunny most days (30), deff recommend high sunscreen, balmy evenings. In 14 days rained most of 1 day and 2 half days (pm).

  • Liked — Nice size, madern and clean
  • Disliked — The occasional plane flying over, approx 4/day (but as only 15 mins from airport it was expected)

After 1 week at the fabulous Kurumba, we transfered to Full Moon, and what a difference. The staff we not as friendly, quite offish in some cases; The general manager was only intrested in mixing with the returners, and the resort was not as we expected. The pool area is dire which is a shame, as the pool itself is wonderful. The loungers and umbrellas are a unpleasant shade of brown, and this does not enhance the tropical feel of the area, and the beach bar is like an old fashioned gentlemans club, furnished to in you guessed it brown furniture.

One of the restaurants shone though, and that was the Thai, which we returned to 4 times, it was so good, and here the staff were excellent.

Both Kurumba and Full Moon are owned by the same group, and we suggest that staff from the Full Moon visit Kurumba to see how guests should be treated.

The dive centre was excellent here, and very professional. We loved the Maldives and would return, but not to Full Moon

  • Liked — The Thai restaurant and the staff in there
  • Disliked — The general attitude of the staff mostly unfriendliness

My boyfriend and I are just back from 1 week at Full Moon (9-16 March) and after reading some of teh reviews we were very concerned about the resort. We had booked only 3 weeks before so the choices were very limited and being the Maldives quite expensive we thought that Full Moon was the maximum for our budget so we left thinking it will not be so great. Instead i have to say that from our first arrival everything has been fantastic.
The island is very nice with beautiful vegetation, it’s spread out quiet well but still you feel privacy and intimacy. The check in and check out were extremely efficient- super service!
The beach bungalow was GREAT! Big, clean and with a fantastic open-air bathroom. The Spa also is super, has a nice location and good treatments (we did 2 body massages and 1 facial).
There are lots of excursions to do so I would say the resort is very well organized. We did 3 that we definetely recommend: the reef snorkelling, teh sunset fishing and Kuda Bandos. The sunset fishing was fun, we ate the fish we got the night after and Kuda bandos was AMAZING- the best snorkelling experience i had in my life!!!
We had booked HB under the suggestion of our travel agent and even though there are 4 other nice restaurants i would say that this is maybe the cheapest option. In any case we were happy with the food, it was not gourmet but there was quite a selection.
It's not true that if you are on HB you have to pay extra for teh 2 buffet evenings (sunday and thursday) it's included in the HB. I can generally say that the food was very good for both breakfast (buffet) and evening meal- our waiter Moosa Didi was very nice he asked us several times if we wanted a 2nd portion during the meal which i found quite kind. We had red wine everynight and i definetely recommend the South African red wine Laborie (USD 34 a bottle). We also did not dislike the fact that we always had the same table and teh same waiter.
We had 3 times lunch instead at teh Sand Coast Cafe: the Maldivian chicken curry was quite good and also teh freshly squezzed pineapple juices.
The Anchorage bar is a perfect venue to see teh fishes being fed and for teh sunset: try their Cosmopolitan- very good!
One word about the beach and the laguna: the water is turquoise and very calm, perfect for swimming and snorkelling you still see some fishes where there are corals.
On the negative points: the resort is probably too close to Male’ so you don’t feel so “in nature” with a lot of boats and planes passing by but we knew this before leaving and it didn't really bother us.It has no house reef so you need to take excursions to see more fishes (we were ok with this anyhow). The personnel doesn’t speak good English so it’s difficult to communicate (only at the reception the English was good). The beach bungalow is not really on the beach (you can see from teh pictures i have attached) but in a kind of yard with vegetation-also this was not really a problem for us. At teh end these negative points for us were only really small details and we are very happy about our staying at Full Moon which is the perfect holiday for 1 week!

I stayed at the Full Moon resort from 1-5 Mar 08 in an over the water bungalow. The bungalow was absolutely beautiful and we could snorkel right from our deck and saw lots of fish including a sting ray and reef shark.
I arrived at the Island ill and had to see the island Doctor. The staff were very pleasant and those who knew I was not well were great.
The only downsides were the food and in particular the seafood which was not up to Australian standards. Whilst I think the resort is overpriced and the day trips need to be more polished the resort itself is quite lovely.
I would go again as long as I could stay in an over the water bungalow.

My husband and I returned to Full Moon two years after our honeymoon there, just after it had been extensively refurbished (we presume that it has since had to be rebuilt following the Tsunami shortly after our departure). We had the most fantastic time on both occasions, the food was of a good standard and whilst we found the drinks to be expensive, we did not feel that they were extortionately so.
The beach cottage was fantastic, luxury to which we are not usually accustomed whilst on holiday, and the staff were never anything but curteous and friendly.
All of the facilities on the island were maintained to an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness.
Whilst Full Moon is undoubtedly a very small island, there was always an air of calm and tranquility and we never got the sense of the place been overcrowded, moreover it appeared quite deserted if anything.
I cannot think of a negative thing to say about the place, to my husband and I, it truly was paradise on earth. Perhaps if I was forced to be negative then I personally would probably not consider taking my three year old to Full Moon as I think I would struggle to keep her occupied for the week. Having said that, there were numerous children at Full Moon on both our visits and they were having a whale of a time.
Highlight: All of it
Downside: Probably will never get to return!

We stayed at the Full Moon for 10 nights of our honeymoon and loved every single minute of the stay and really didn't want to leave ! We decided to just go B+B due to being restricted to the main restaurant for other meals on HB + FB rates. The Atoll Grill and Baan Thai were great and had excellent meals all the times we ate there. Sand coast cafe was good also, but would recommend only get 1meal between 2 of you at dinner-time as the portions are quite large ! I know other people have stated that food/drink prices are expensive but you have to remember that the Hotel has to import most if not all of the food/drink onto the island therefore bumping costs up. Staff are great , friendly and always cheery and helpful. Loads of wildlife on the island - lizards, and huge fruit bats which roost in the large tree at the back of the Baan Thai restaurant. Water was fantastic and everyday we snorkelled from our water bungalow we would see numerous different fish. Also try and go to the Anchorage bar around 6pm daily as staff there feed the fish/stingray/eels. Even though the Hotel was fully booked you hardly saw many other guests during the day (other than breakfast) Was a great getaway. Very relaxing and you could choose to do as little or as much as you liked as Hotel had numerous trips organised for guests. Will definatley consider returning to this resort in the future.

After spending a dissapointing Christmas and New Year`s at Cinnamon, we move from there at Full Moon on the 3rd of January for 10 days. We`ve been there last year and we asked for the same room. The resort gets better and better. Some of the management was changed and I must say the guys that are taking care of things now and real proffesionals.
Not only that we got our "old" room, but when we arrived we had champagne, fruit basket and other nice surprises already in the room. Prices are kinda the same, but services are improoved, and the best thing was that we didn`t have to wait any second to get what we wanted. No more lazy waiters! The island is well taking care of, they have now a brand new beach bar with excellent choices. The food is excellent ! They have the best breakfast money can buy, everything you want , you get it !
The diving center is not as good as we saw in other resorts, but the surely have the nicest people willing to assist you anytime! And they are proffessional with an honest smile on their face.
For sure next year we`ll go back there !
