“Sheraton luxury in a tropical paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

This really is a stunningly beautiful resort - white sand beaches with crystal clear tropical water (it's like swimming in a fish tank), perfect manicured lush tropical gardens (such interesting plants & trees), a waterfall feeding into a swimming pool (much how i imagine a natural lagoon in a tropical rainforest), first class accommodation (options to suit, ranging from ocean view villas with pools, over water stilted villas & bungalows, to standard rooms set within gardens), various restaurants to suit all tastes (Maldivian, Indian, Thai, European etc), beach bars with spectacular views and the staff were totally incredible (we stayed one night only and, despite having 180 or so rooms, we were both greeted by name at breakfast!). Just to show the level of service, we were celebrating a birthday and so I asked for a special room with a view - and was taken aback to receive complimentary sparkling wine, cake, card and petals on the bed spelling 'Happy Birthday'! Incredible - and they let us check out at 4pm too! It's also conveniently close to Male airport, so no long, costly seaplane or long speedboat transfers. Only downside was that it's very pricey as you'd expect - $10-15 USD for a small milkshake, $190 USD for a nice Thai meal for 2 without alcohol - but a trip of a lifetime nonetheless! Thank you Sheraton!

Room Tip: Water villas are absolutely incredible. Room 5 has an extended sun deck (bigger than others), but yo...

We stayed for a week at the Sheraton Maldives and we never wanted to leave. My wife was crying by the end because it was such a magical place. Not many americans even know where Maldives are hence why we chose this destination and while hard to get to, it is well worth the long flights. We spent 4 previous days in Dubai before heading down. On arrival it's just as beautiful as every picture you've seen. The hotel staff quickly escorted us with bags into awaiting boat and whisked us off to hotel. Short ride later the staff was waving upon arrival to the dock (and upon our departure :( but more of that later). Platinum status got us upgraded to a water bungalow and golf cart took us to an amazing room. They also have beach cottages but I think water bungalow is why you travel so far to experience. They have all been upgraded since the tsunami and were in good condition. The bathrooms do get hot and stuffy with not being connected to main room for AC but having the water and access to snorkel steps away was perfect. They truly make it so you don't need to leave the island except for Sheraton planned activities. So if you're truly looking to relax this is the place. We found daily activities snorkeling, dolphin sunset tour, fishing, local island experience, island BBQ, and scuba diving all well run. The hotel pool was never crowded and service was high end. We were told there are ~150 guest at anytime and over 400 staff and it shows. The tend to everything and were quick and all speak good English. By the end of the trip they knew everything about us which can be creepy but what you get with high end service. The dive center is Euro Dive and top notch. I did a quick cert. check dive and immediately saw eagle rays, giant green turtles, black tip and reef sharks, manta rays eels, etc. You don't need to go far to see much and can get two dives in a day and the staff is knowledgable and help with all gear. Great divemasters who love to chat and know the sites very well. There is no lounge so platinum get free daily breakfast buffet which was well worth it. Amazing selection and we stuffed ourselves every morning so didn't need much of a lunch. On our last day they are difficult about getting a late checkout but we had a 11:30 PM flight so we went to the spa for a couples massage and it was amazing and romantic. Quick change in the room and off to watch final sunset and nightly hotel shark feeding. We did get upgraded half way thru to an Ocean Villa which are on far end of island so bit more walk and remote and you can't walk right into water since sea is rough but they are newer than bungalows and have wireless where other rooms do not. Since no ocean access you get your own plunge pool so we felt like rockstars and if you have the $$$ this is the way to go. Other restuarants on the island we tried them all excpet Thai one were so so. Not bad not amazing. A wave goodbye from staff and we were on way back to airport and hopefull to return one day before the country is swallowed by the sea!!
Pros:
- Extremely friendly staff
- Great Dive Center
- Clean newer rooms
- Plenty of activities
- Perfect for honeymooners
- Free Breakfast for Plat. SPG
- Water Bungalows & Ocean Villas
- Free snorkel gear everyday if needed
Cons:
- Alcohol is $$$ with being Maldives and cannot bring duty free so expect to spend most of your money on drinks. Don't see this changing or worth hassle of trying to sneak in booze.
- So much staff that it can be overburdening. It seems every corner you turn there is somebody albeit smiling.
- If you want to venture to other islands or explore capital on your own expect to pay an arm and leg. It costs us over $300 for a private boat ride to explore the capital
- Bring your own sunscreen and lots of it or expect to pay $45 for a small bottle

Room Tip: Water bungalows are very close to your neighbor. If you want true privacy go with Ocean Villa. Beach...

As couple we stayed here for a valentines break.

The pros:

Beautiful island stunning
Very romantic
Beautifully kept beach crystal clear turquiose waters
Detached cottage facing the beach the best worth the extra money
Outdoor shower- wow!
Good choice of restaurants - Thai restaurant the best.
Freshwater pool amazing.
Very helpful staff.

The negatives:

Expensive for drinks and food.
Buffet and theme nights not great for price your paying.
No supermarket or anything to by crisps, drinks, etc.
No alcohol is allowed into the Maldives.
Breakfast choice was poor.

Would go back to another island. Could try all inclusive but imagine choices would be very limited.

Room Tip: Detached cottage facing the beach.

We stayed on the island for 10 nights from the 1st October and had a fabulous time. The excellent service commenced at the airport when we had our speed boat transfer ready for us after a lengthy trip from Manchester via Dubai. We were welcomed with the staff waving at us from the jetty and then were handed a cold cloth to freshen up with along with a cool cocktail. We were then taken to our room 301, which was in an excellent location on the beach front and located close to the restaurants, bars and lobby.

The breakfast at Feast was amazing and catered for everybodys needs. It was also nice to pick up a daily news paper for your country to read whilst having breakfast and the waiters were so attentive in filling up your glass with fresh orange juice, tea and coffee. The price of the food and drinks were expensive but we knew that before we went and thats what you expect in the Maldives as everything has to be imported. Evening meals we had at either the Anchorage Bar or at Sand Coast where the complimentary nan bread was delicious.

We cannot fault the friendliness and courtesy of all the staff, whether it be, the room boy cleaning your room (Waheed), Rama at Drifters Bar, all the staff at the restaurants and even their smiling face and "hello" from the staff just walking past them on the island. Overall a most enjoyable holiday and would definately recommend to anybody.

Room Tip: The SPG rooms 301-316 are the best location as direct on the beach, excellent views and very close t...

Having stayed at Starwood properties during our Honeymoon, it was only appropriate that we do the same for our one year anniversary. After selecting the Maldives, the only choice that remained was which property. The decision was made to spend our 1st Anniversary at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, and to say it was one of the best decisions ever, would be an understatement.

From the word go, this resort went out of thier way to make our visit the best it could possibly be. My wife had always talked about how someday she would love to stay in an overwater Bungalow, and she got her wish. From the moment we entered, it became clear that they truely appreciated our staying with them. Our bed was covered with fresh flowers, from which they had spelled out "Happy Anniversary". There was also a chocolate cake, two cupcakes, and a bottle of Champange. Talk about setting the tone for our visit, these folks did it right. The bungalow had a deck, and stairs that took you right down into the most beautiful water we had ever seen. There were schools of fish swimming everywhere, including several large needle fish, that we considered our friends by the end of our stay. There was also a shower, so you could rinse off the salt water after taking a swim. The ocean bottom was covered with soft sand, and the water temp was just perfect.

I had read some of the reviews prior to booking, and saw numerous complaints about the price of food. What I did not see in those reviews was mention of the selection. We were both blown away by not only the number of choices, but the willingness on the part of thier team to make us whatever we wanted, however we wanted it. They went above and beyond to accomodate, and I would rather pay a couple dollars more for quality like this, than to end up dissapointed.

There was a daily wine pairing, where you received three glasses of wine for only $15. NOTE: DO NOTATTEMPT TO BRING ALCOHOL TO THE ISLAND, THEY WILL CONFISCATE IT. We learned this the hard way, but they are at least kind enough to hold it for you until after your stay.

We tried all of the resturants, but our favorite was the breakfast buffet. From made to order eggs, wide selection of fresh fruits, and even "Real" fresh squezed OJ, it offered something for everyone, and we certainly never left hungry. One of the things that really put this resort over the top was "Communication". We had made mention during one of our first stops of a couple things we did not like, or were alergic to, and the next time we ate (At another resturant), they mentioned it without us saying a thing. The head chef "Sven" was truly Amazing. He stopped by to personally congratulate us on our anniversary, and even took the time to explain what several unique items were. Not only is he a brillant chef, but a great guy as well.

There were a couple of things that they could improve upon, and we saw this mentioned by others. The air conditioning was not quite large enough for the over water bungalows, and we found ourselves sleeping a few feet apart, or we would wake up in a sweat. We had also received mixed messages on if WiFi had been installed (It had not), but they were kind enough to bring us a wireless router to use. The service was extremely slow, but it was very kind of them to do this.

I have traveled the world, and stayed at some of the finest properties, and am convinced that this was the friendliest staff I have ever seen. They went above and beyond to say hello at every opportunity, and always greeted us with a smile.

My favorite thing on the island was the SPA. I had the pleasure of getting one of thier "Ocean" messages, and WOW. The room that they took me to was wide open to the ocean. Forget about listening to Ocean music, this was the real deal. Quite possibly the best message I have ever had by a really nice gal from Bali.

My wifes favorite was the "Flying Foxes". These are "Technically" Fruit Bats, but unlike most bats, stay out during the day, and are so cute its crazy. They are quite large, and actually look like a cross between a puppy, and a fox. They were very playful, chasing each other around the trees, and from a distance looked like very large birds.

Being that the resort covers the entire island, you could not feel more safe. All of the staff lives on the island in special housing, so it is virtually impossible for anyone to get on the island that is not invited.

Thank you Starwood and Sheraton for the best anniversary we could have possibly hoped for, we really appreciated it!

Room Tip: We were in overwater Bungalow 346 and it looked like we had more sandy bottom than others.

Hi Shannon,
Firstly, congratulations on your first year wedding anniversary. Secondly, thanks for choosing to celebrate both your honeymoon and anniversary with Starwood - we appreciate your support and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with you.
You're right - you cannot bring any alcohol into the Maldives, customs will confiscate it on arrival.
Currently, we offer complimentary WiFi at The Link@Sheraton (in the lobby). Wired internet access is provided in all guest rooms and we hope to have the island WiFi capable by years end.
I'm also pleased that you visited the Sheraton Social Hour - just $15 for three glasses of wine (and of course the best sunsets are on offer too).
Again, thanks for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to Sheraton.
Regards .. Ursula.

The friendliness and attention to detail started with our welcoming at the airport, and continued through out our whole six day stay here. We were greeted with champagne, chocolate mud cake and a beautifully decorated bed wishing
us a happy 25th wedding anniversary. We stayed in an over water bungalow which we felt is a must when visiting the beautiful Maldives. The colourful fish and stingrays are constantly swimming around the lagoon that the bungalows are situated on. We recommend the Sunset Dolphin Cruise and absolutely loved the Coral Reef Snorkeling Trip, the water sports staff are very obliging as well. We would thourghly recommend this motel if you are looking for a relaxing get away. The weather was wonderful, and relaxing in the cabanas at the Anchorage Bar was a great way to end a beautiful day.
