“A Dream Come True”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

This resort is one of the most friendly places I have ever been in the World.

We were met at ‘Filitheyo International Airport’ by the lovely Edith with a beaming smile and just knew it was going to be a great holiday. The rest of the staff were also amazing and nothing was too much trouble.
The food in the restaurant was superb and with so much choice we were never let down. The dress code was very relaxed and not as said in the brochure.
If you travel ‘All Inclusive’ beware that cocktails are not included and you have to drink wine by the glass at meal times! This was perhaps my only complaint. We stayed in one of the Water Villas and were not allowed to take drinks back there which was a real shame.
The wifi does work in the Water Villas but was really expensive. I don’t understand how people can charge £100 for internet connection for 10 days!

Other than those few complaints the holiday was superb. The ‘House Reef’ made the best snorkeling I have ever experienced and we also went on the snorkeling boat trip which was incredible. We also took a fishing trip early one morning and caught 10 tuna, amazing fun!!!

The worst part of the holiday was having to return home. Thank you to all the staff for making this an idyllic break.

Room Tip: The Water Villas were superb but if you don't like the sound of the waves go for the detached De...

Just returned from our 10 night stay. We can't fault the place. Flew with Emirates, arriving 10am ,straight to the seaplane ,had a 20 min wait, then up and away, 40 min flight to the little platform in the sea and then a 15 min Dohni ride to the resort. A word about the seaplane, it's HOT in there (the fans in ours didn't work) so may be worthwhile taking a change of cloths into 'summer gear' to get changed at Male airport (there are toilets before immigration and there's always a queue for that) Take your camera in your hand (all bags are stowed at the back) to get some pictures of the islands you fly over.
Check in was smooth and quick, with a welcome drink. If you are allocated a room 110 and above try to change it there and then. There is no swimming and snorkelling outside although there is a beach up until 122 (after that nothing and you WILL be disappointed). We got 116 got there ,had a wander around and decided to try and get it changed to something a bit further down the beach. Had to stay there 2 nights but were then moved to 74. This is a fantastic location, right outside exit point 6 for the shortest distance from shore to reef (about 50 meters from door to drop off!)
The snorkelling is good, although we saw no Turtle which we were sad about, but this is a natural resort who do not feed the animals, so they come and go as they please, so it's just chance if you see them, some did, we didn't. Saw a few fleeting glimpses of sharks ( they don't hang around). The currents are really strong at times, we found morning was not as strong as later in the day. The general direction when we were there was from exit 7 down to the water villas but this could change later, best to go in and check you can get back if your not confident. The lagoon is shallow and calmer but a long way from the drop off. There are the best coral gardens here though but time it for a highish tide as they are close to the surface at low tide.
The food is of a good standard and there is something for everyone (though you may get a bit tired of 'reef fish' by the end of a long stay, nice though it is!) There was a nice big whole fish on offer one night ,we asked what type of fish it was ,they said reef fish, we said but what type, they said reef fish! We left it at that.
We went half board as we are not big drinkers and it was fine ,had a big breakfast (served 7.30 til 9.30) sometimes had a pizza and a couple of beers at the Sunset bar around 3pm (happy hr starts then) ,watch the sunset at 6.15 from the beach then get ready for dinner at 7.30. As a guide prices for a pizza and pasta are $15-20 US and a beer is $5.
Drinking the water. We researched here and asked our guy who showed us to our room (he said it was fine), and decided to compromise a little by having our own (cycling drinks) bottles with us. We would fill and boil the kettle, let it cool and fill our bottles, then put them in the fridge, thus always having cold boiled water. We sometimes just half filled from the tap, and as well as having cups of tea, we were fine the whole time. In short, no need to buy the 'bottled' water, which are in re-fillable bottles anyway and we suspect they fill them from tap water anyway.
Bites. We both got bitten by mossies or something similar. My wife reacted quite badly, blistering up. We suspect it was at meal times although we both put on 'jungle formula' (they have probably built up a resistance to this and probably quite like it now)!
Rooms. They are nice with an outside area for wardrobe and bathroom/shower area. Always close the adjoining door. We saw cockroaches in the outdoor area (and in the bedroom sometimes) which is alarming at first, but when you realise they are scared of you and run away you get used to them. Just don't leave any trace of food around the place.
Return journey. We had the 10am flight out and had to get up at 4.45am to have a light breakfast provided for us at 5.15. We left the island at 6am for a sunrise seaplane flight which was well worth the effort of getting up at that time (and the flight was cooler than the one coming).
All in all ,a fantastic holiday, well worth going. Would we go back....there is no reason not to other than there are so many other places to see.

Room Tip: superior are enough, no need to spend more. Room numbers 60-80 best reef access and beach. 118 up ba...

One of the best house reefs for snorkeling and diving - a lot of fishes, turtle, sharks, tuna, anemone, sting rays , dolphins, etc. Excellent choice of food in the restaurant. Water sport has no motor boats for waterski, wakeboard, just canoe, windsurfing and catamarans, but location and beach there is not good for any sport so we didnt do. To snorkle choose rooms from 39 to 90, after 90 - big waves and wind. Before 39 - villas with long way to swim to coral edge but a lot of sand for small kids (stingrays love it near the beach so take care), water-villas are nice but with low tide no way to swim.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Filitheyo Island resort. It was fantastic and we enjoyed our week there. First of all, you have to research your flights well as there are some horrible flight connections. We booked the honeymoon with Thomson and used Qatar Airways from London to Doha and then to Male. We were met by Thomson's local contacts and we got on a bus to the airport to use a seaplane. We then landed on the ocean and got a speed boat ride into the resort. Immediately we arrived, we got refreshing drinks and a towels to freshen up and were taken to our chalet. I would suggest you go half board if you are not a heavy drinker. Food was great, activities like snorkelling, island tours etc were fun and the wife and I did the romantic dinner get away which was fantastic. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

The resort is built on a beautiful island and the beauty of island is preserved, which is what we liked a lot. So much so that for the most part of our stay we walked barefoot and totally loved it. We opted for half board and the buffet was excellent. We opted for superior villas and we were quite satisfied with the room. Our stay was comfortable and we thoroughly loved our staty. We would definitely recommend Filitheyo to honeymooners.
One thing that we felt was missing on the island was a night club/party place. I understand that honeymooners usually look for a quite place and serene environment. But having night club would only add to the list of activities that you can do and its fun too.

We had the great pleasure to stay at Flitheyo island resort in November for a week.
Since it was our second time this year we had a VIP treatment which was greatly appreciated. (Thank you again to all the staff !)
The team was super nice with us and we really enjoyed our stay.
Filitheyo is a very beautifull wonderland. Pretty large (in Maldivian standart) with some large sections of jungle left natural which is a very good thing. Beaches are cleaned everyday so the sand remains immaculate.
We noticed that a large portion of the beach was literally missing in comparison with our last time 8 months ago ! Probably due to a severe storm…
We appreciated our room. The design may be a little vintage but this was not so important for us.
In the lagon we have been greeted by beautiful animals : turtles, raies, sharks and all sort of fabulous fishes : pure magic. For our last day dozens of dolphins were swimming and jumping like crazy kids at 200 /300 meters away from the beach…Fantastic !
The spa is also a very good point of the resort. Hidden in the middle of the island, all the therapist are good and have magical hands.
2 or 3 points to improve: the buffet needs to be more organic and healthier.
Also : I still don’t understand why some people need to go fishing when you just snorkeled with magnificient creatures…why kill them ? we heard a Russian guy boasting around at the frontdesk because he had killed a baby shark (wow !).
They also organize a “crab race” every Monday, which seems totally inappropriate in a 4 star resort.
Other than that Filitheyo is a magic paradise with a friendly staff: If you like to feel in total seclusion (like us) with nothing to do but a nice walk around the beach, a cocktail admiring the sunset and a well deserved massage at the spa after the snorkeling, you really have to stay in filitheyo.
Can’t wait for our 3rd time <3

My husband and I holidayed here in early June this year for our Honeymoon and we had a fabulous time! I often look at reviews that other travellers write about the destinations we visit and quite frankly I can't help but feel like some people cannot be pleased! The transfer by seaplane/boat was swift and hassle free and we were given a warm welcome with a refreshing drink and ice cold towels to help us acclimatise to the heat! Our bags were taken straight to our beach bungalow and we were given a tour of the facilities. The bungalow itself, number 67, was directly facing the scuba diving entrance into the beautiful Indian ocean. We were on the all inclusive package and we were not disappointed, the food was amazing, so much choice and nothing was too much for the chefs or the waiters. If you can't find something you like then your taste buds like bland food or you just have no taste, I honestly believe some people expect fish fingers and chips! I did read a few reviews complaining about not being able to take your drinks back to the villas etc. but we didn't find this a problem, every time I ordered a drink I would get a new bottle of diet coke as a mixer which meant I regularly ended up with full unopened bottles which I then popped in the mini-bar fridge and used whilst on the beach. The drinks were all branded on the AI and the measures were always doubles, we really couldn't complain. I had a fabulous treatment in the spa which was made even better by the fact that they gave me an extended treatment for the same price as it was a quiet time for them. My husband is a qualified scuba diver and went several times out with the Werner Lau team who were all lovely and helpful, yes this is all at an additional cost as is the WiFi but lets face it your on a desert island they can charge you whatever they want! Whilst we were there we did notice that a few of the bungalows were being re thatched but the management made sure that we were far enough away that it didn't disturb our tranquillity whilst we lazed on the picture perfect beach, it was actually fascinating to see how the locals went about this process!
All in all we couldn't have asked for better and cannot think of anything we would change about this idyllic island.

Room Tip: Our room was en equal walk to the sunset bar, restaurant, spa and dive centre. It also provided good...
