My partner and I spent 7 days at this hotel in August, and found it to be exceptional in every way. We loved the decor, large rooms, the fact that the hotel covers a large area and therefore offers privacy from other guests if that is what you want. The food was fabulous. We had late breakfast (10 to 11) and late lunch (2 to 3) most days at the small zen restaurant overlooking the sea. We enjoyed this seascape - not classic Mauritius with its rocks and breaking waves, but as we are not really lying-on-the-beach types we enjoyed its startling beauty. The service was excellent, and the waitrons recognised us by day two and knew our preferences in drinks etc which always helps! We passed the days lounging next to the zen pool mainly, having steam baths (included in package altho our all inclusive package did not include spa), and walking on the beaches. The hotel was not by any means full, which meant no problems with good seating at meals, getting loungers etc.
The dinners were spectacular and with six different selection areas within the main diningroom, each with several chefs cooking continuously, food was delicious, extremely varied, and absolutely freshly done. One area has a pizza oven with 'design your own pizza' and different pasta dishes; one features several different Chinese style mains every day including sushi (one night) and various wok dishes, duck, pork etc; one area has a plenitude of starters, including fish, several hot and cold soups, salads and other entrees; two other areas served a multitude of main courses including lobster (one night) , fish kebabs, various fish dishes nightly, as well as meat choices and vegetables including palm hearts, artichokes, asparagus etc; and one area had delectable desserts, ice creams and cheeses. In a week I don't believe we ate the same thing twice, and got in the habit of walking around the extensive area first to identify which two or three main dishes we would sample out of the far more than a dozen on offer every night.
There were a wide range of people there, honey mooners, families, middle aged couples like ourselves - and the layout of the hotel meant that you could be fully entertained and organised if you wanted, and could opt out of everything if that is what you wanted - which we did.
In fact the holiday was the perfect break we had needed. If I was to gripe about anything, it would be to agree with a previous review that mentions the slow mini bar fridge service, and the fact that the showers seem poorly designed in terms of drainage so that you end up standing in shower water, which also tends to flood out onto bathroom floor a little. I was told this is a design fault (oh dear) and not simply a blocked drain. The bath was great though, and liked the screen doors which folded back to make the bathroom part of the main bedroom (toilet is separate room).
We liked the all inclusive package deal - we literally did not have to think about money the whole week as all drinks and snacks were also included apart from spirits - and we had bought our spirits in duty free before arriving in Mauritius, which we combined with free mixers in the hotel room for a pre or post dinner drink. Judging by the prices in the hotel shop, the all inclusive deal would undoubtedly be by far the most economical deal!
The weather was varied, but we enjoyed this. It was not too hot, and rained for about twenty minutes on a couple of days, then cleared up again.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone, and have promised my children that if any of them ever gets married I will pay for a Mauritian honeymoon!
A Happy Holidayer!
