“Comfortable, quiet and reasonably priced”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We stayed at The Clansman while on a motorcycle trip, starting from Minden ON ,travelling to Tobermory and eventually to Wawa. This hotel was one of our favourite spots on the trip. Very reasonable (unlike the Tobermory area !) quiet, and within walking distance to two excellent restaurants.

Stayed here for a trip to do the St Joe's triathlon. The room was spacious and well kept which made it easy to keep my bike and triathlon gear in the room and organize for the race. It also had all amenities you might want to use. The location was a little further from the site of the race than I expected, but more than manageable to travel. The price was also great three nights stay was under 250 dollars which is spectacular. The room is not very modern with the exception of the flat screen television, but I have stayed at other hotels that have the same issue and cost much more. The only complaint I might have is that the WiFi signal could be a bit stronger. If I wanted to connect I had to stand by the window closest to the main office then I could go sit or lie down and work on the tablet.

We were happy to have been able to find accommodation so close to the start line of the St. Joe's triathlon. At $79/ night for a queen with a kitchen we were very pleased with the price. Our room included a small table, stove top, microwave, sink, dishes, etc. The room had a large window and a back door facing the back yard which houses a swing set, picnic tables, and bbq. Parking was right at the door. The motel was very quiet (lots of triathletes gearing up for their races) which was a plus compared to the host hotel that we stayed at last year. The decorations/linens are dated but this in no way affected the quality of our stay. We checked out by leaving our keys in the room. It would have been nice if the check out time was later (we should have asked) so that athletes could have showered after the event but otherwise no complaints. Without reservation we would recommend this motel to family & friends who are looking for somewhere clean, quiet and inexpensive to stay. This may not be the place for you if you desire all that 5 star hotels have to offer.

Room Tip: We were three groups staying in three separate rooms and everyone was pleased with their accommodati...

This motel is functional, and due to the lack of accommodation on the Island, it gets by with a ready market. The hosts were accommodating and friendly. Our kids loved the pool and we appreciated having towels provided. The rooms need updating but were clean. The bathtub drain did not work well, so a shower became a bath up to one's ankles...not enjoyable. The beds have little support and were uncomfortable. The bedding needs updating...blankets and quilts were thin and dated. With new paint, mattresses and bedding, and attention to the plumbing, this motel could be stellar!

I've stayed here a few times over the years, since When Ann's Cafe was in business , that place made probably the worlds best french toast....and you'd want to comeback the next day to take another whack at it so...Why not stay on the island.

The motel it self is small , just one row of rooms and gets some traffic from time to time, especially if there's a wedding or some event on the island.

The rooms are large , clean , comfy ....
the dog's always been nice , even when it was wearing a cone on it's head.

Never dipped in the pool , but they have one.
(outdoor).

And if you stay up lateish or get up around dawn there's a decent shot a seeing a deer nearby.

Room Tip: Ask politely...they're all good rooms. Number 1 is a mini apartment.

We stay at The Clansmen once every summer while visiting family in the area. We all enjoy the great pool area where the radio is playing, and they have plenty of seating and towels. The slide in the pool is always a hit too! The rooms are a nice size with a kitchenette in them. They have all you need from pots, glasses, utensils, mini fridge, hot plate, and microwave. Along with coffee maker and toaster too. The a/c was also very much enjoyed! The little town of Richard's Landing is not far down the road where there is a nice family restaurant and also a little place to get ice cream :) The owners are friendly and understanding, even when we were late by at least an hour for check out! We very much enjoy staying here and will be back again next summer :)

Wife and I took a 3-night trip to Ontario. The Clansmen Motel is located not far from the bridge to the mainland and a little way before Richard's Landing. This motel must be a few decades old but it is well maintained, has about a half dozen units, a swimming pool, a BBQ in the back yard, stovetop, small fridge, small microwave, some dishes/cutlery etc., is clean with friendly and helpful owners. Also has a website. There's the Lighthouse restaurant, a snack bar with ice cream, a couple ATMs, a store/gasoline station, a liquor store at Richard's Landing. Between the motel and the bridge is a restaurant and a Royal Canadian Legion post, where I was able to get cold Pepsi at 10:30 p.m. We liked the Clansmen Motel, Richard's Landing and St. Joseph Island, which is mostly rural.
