After reading some of the more negative reviews on this site, we were pleasantly surprised and delighted with our overall experience of this hotel. The reception team treated us magnificently: nothing was too much trouble. We arrived very early in the morning (British Airways had changed our flight to overnight): this was some 6 hours before check-in time, but we were welcomed with coffee and a meal and given a regular room to sleep in (without extra charge) until our 'superior' room was ready - and the room more than lived up to its name! Both rooms we experienced were also perfectly quiet. We found the reception, customer relations, bar and restaurant staff, entertainment personnel and porters - just about everyone - to be unbelievably friendly. In fact, we generally found the Cypriot people, who are going through a very hard time, both economically and politically, to be warm, gentle, likeable, supportive and friendly (unlike our experience in several other 'popular' holiday destinations, including parts of mainland Greece) and in possession of a lovely sense of humour. They are, it must also be said, very pro-British (a tad surprising given 20th-century Cypriot history) and, as many of the other guests (when we were there in July) were Russian (a very decent lot on the whole, incidentally), they seemed almost relieved that we were there! The food was simply outstanding - consistently so - and the all-inclusive deal exceptionally good and utterly ungrudging (as I have experienced elsewhere). The pool area is fantastic and benefits from having more sunbeds (always sufficient) than I have ever experienced in similar holidays in Crete, Mexico, Croatia and Spain - so no getting up at 6am to book your place in the sun! The hotel has come under new management in the past few months and there were inevitably teething difficulties as everyone had to negotiate a radical change in culture and expectations. Under-performing staff were moved out and a highly professional team assembled. The general manager sets performance targets for each department and the whole 'feel' was of a thoroughly professional approach by a man who knows what he is doing. Clearly this is a hotel that is going from strength to strength. We were the beneficiaries and I believe that holidaymakers going there in the coming months and years will have an even better time. Two small suggestions: there needs to be a personal computer (or computers) close to the reception area that customers without laptops or tablets can use (with or without a charge) - and there absolutely has to be a table tennis table with regular tournaments (OK - that's very much a personal request!); this will enable guests to interact and get to know each other. My wife and I will certainly be going back to this hotel.
