we have been going to what was the Louis Princess but is now the Princess Beach hotel for almost 10 years. It has changed
The hotel has gone through some refurbishment, which was long overdue and is welcome - it is surprising what fresh paint can do. It has also gone through a change of ownership. For those of us whom have been going for long time the changes are noticeable and in some cases not so good.
Before you would always see a large team of cleaners every morning. This would include cleaning all of the sun beds and pool surrounding areas. This was not the case when we stayed. The rooms are not as clean as they could be - is this maybe because there is only 1 cleaner designated to look after a whole floor? When we went, this is what was happening
The reception area which used to have large comfortable seating now has what i can only describe as 'office furniture' which are not so comfortable. Gone are the computers which guests could use - at a price. Gone are the games machines which the kids used to enjoy. Gone are the table tennis and pool tables. I know these can be described as minor issues and probably did not fit in with what is reportedly a 4 star hotel and with the new management trying to raise standards.
I echo the sentiments of other reviewers in that there was so little information as to what was happening in the hotel. The previous owners had books/info in every room telling you what was on offer etc. These have all gone. Found an A4 printed activities chart pinned to the wall opposite reception desk that told you daily activities. If you didnt know to search for it, you would have never know it was there. In the rooms even the toilet brushes have been removed.
In each room we used to get the standard hotel packs of shower caps etc - all gone
In each room there is a kettle. Pity there is no tea or coffee or milk cartons. These used to be there. I suppose you can boil yourself some hot water and drink that?
Although the hotel has undergone a refurb, they have not managed to replace any of the bedding - still the same as all our previous years, not replaced the towels - still branded as Louis.
The chairs in the restaurant are still the same ones but with covers over. The sun beds by the pool are still the same ones and unfortunatley not as clean as before.
I must admit and maybe it was when we went, the pool was beautifully clear
At the time we were there (end of may) there was no indication that the beach side restaurant could offer food. Found out from other residents that the menus were hidden behind the bar and you had to ask for them. Probably explains why you saw hardly anybody eating from there - no-one knew you could get food. Again a lack of information. If you did not know to ask, then one would assume that there was nothing available. Remember this is all inclusive and 'food should be on tap'!
The waiting staff in the main restaurant were fine - no complaints. They are now all cypriots. Dissapointed that for a cypriot hotel, there was not more cypriot food.
One of the gripes i have about a hotel that states it is 4 star and bearing in mind what year we are in, why do we have to pay for wifi? to get it for free, go across the road to the bars or go to macdonalds. we have paid enough money, these sort of things should be included. The rest of the world manages to do this!!
It is still a lovely smallish hotel - in a great location for us BUT the changes have spoilt things.
I do hope that someone from Princess Hotel reads this and takes on board some of the comments. Do you want to loose a regular guest who every time they come take 3 rooms at a time?
