“Outstandingly friendly staff made our holiday pleasurable.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2011

The Crown Henipa Hotel
is a beautiful hotel where children are safe and parents can relax. The staff is friendly, genuine and sincere people.
One is met on arrival by friendly receptionists – Alina was the welcoming agent when we arrived.
She shares her responsibilities with Danny and Martin, who are equally efficient and friendly.
Their combined efforts ensure one a happy and relaxed holiday, as they do their best to accommodate your wishes and ensure your comfort. The lobby is spacious, the bar is well stocked. The panoramic windows lead to the pools and bungalows, where we stayed.
The pools are well cared of and the modern designs are very attractive
The en-suite bedroom is spacious. The furniture is practical as well as comfortable.
There is a tennis court as well as a Jacuzzi. The large terrace is where the meals are served.
A team of very friendly employees takes care of your needs. One can see how well they work together and how happy they are in their jobs – they look exhausted but are forever patient and friendly
The manager Mr. George, a charming man who is flitting around all the time.
The kitchen chef is the man who makes sure the meals are colorful and plentiful.
During the day Anna takes care of the pool bar, she has a winning smile and never gets frustrated by the pressure she works under.
In the evening James and Rachel make sure that you are not thirsty. They have a pleasant manner and are dedicated.
Last not least Mr. Tofias is the man who has the ‘say’.
He is a man who values the opinion his guests and is open to suggestions.

Not much to worry about the service and the cleaning. Yes pool was a bit muddy at the bottom but cleaned thoroughly every day, and quite good with the choice of two larger pools and the whirlpool-annex-waterfall.
The main challenge, even in the bungalow rooms, is the service concept. Hardly ever seen such a bare-bones offering calling itself 3-star. Bathroom (quite decent in size, including tub and well working flushing WC) has only one soap dispenser near the sink, nothing at all near tub/shower. What a nightmare using it for showering. Sheets and towels get changed every 3 days; no pool towels unless you pay extra to rent them.

The breakfast had a wide variety of types of things, e.g. 4 hot foods and 2 yoghurts. But inside those types, REALLY basic food - like the baked beans with a consistently broken and hence cooling-to-quickly bowl, scrambled eggs that taste not really egg-like, and 2 types of sliced bread with exactly ONE toaster for the whole (large) restaurant.

Caters mainly to people on HB or AI basis, which means it's not very attractive to people wanting a simple but decent 3-star quality. Good for dump prices, not for their usual price level.

Spent two nights for a wedding end of May.
What a nightmare!
The pool seemed nice but with a closer look you could literally see the bottom's mud.
We saw young childern doing their needs/ elderly people cleaning their swimming suits/ kids throwing food and still no one was cleaning it!
The bungalow room was so dirty that you could see the dust all over.
We were left out of towels from the second day and the receptionist didnt seem to interest at all.
Breakfast was poor.
The staff unfriendly.
I am not used staying in luxurious hotels, but this one honestly is a disaster.

This hotel was booked by a large group of family and friends after my cousin decided to get married in Cyprus. After a relatively pleasant flight into Larnaca Airport the Crown Resorts Henipa is only a 20 minute drive away. A short cruise down Dhekelia Road and you will see the Henipa.

The positioning of the Henipa is unfortunate. You have the beach, then some restaurants and houses, then a dual carriage way which has no pavements and THEN you have the Henipa. Don't worry though, because the beach isn't anything special (but i'll come back to that later).

On arrival at the Henipa, we found parking easily. The main entrance does not have any sort of ramp so you have to haul your luggage up some steps to get to reception. You do however, have the option of taking the side entrance but be careful not to trip over and smash your head open (i'll come back to that as well). Once into the lobby you are met with a large seating area to the right (the bar) and the reception is to the left. The first drama of the holiday happens almost immediately with the hotel apparently not having any record of my dads booking... Its just as well we had a copy of his accommodation voucher! To be fair, they sorted out a replacement room very quickly and we moved into our rooms.

The hotel is split into two parts: The old hotel and the new pool bungalows. The pool bungalows are of reasonable size but nothing special. You get a room with a bed. A TV. A desk and a wardrobe. The card/key room access thing is required in a slot on the wall for power to flow. The card however is ill fitting and requires numerous attempts before it finally stays on. The lighting is awful. It consists of one desk lamp (not plugged in). And a lamp on either side of the bed (also not plugged in). The lamps are two pin and the sockets are three pin. Clearly the staff cannot be bothered faffing with the plug which is why they are not in the sockets. After numerous attempts to get the pins in the sockets, i eventually give up having managed to successfully install 2 out of the 3 lights.

The bed is clean and comfortable. We also requested a fridge which we were given, but the room does not come with any other amenities such as a toaster or kettle. It doesn't even come with tea/coffee or cups. Basically, they want you to spend your hard earned cash on their food and drink (but i'll come back to that later as well!).

The bathroom is a very reasonable size and is actually the bungalows only saving grace. A good sized toilet (just remember to put your toilet roll in the bin provided or you'll block the sewage system) and a great sized bath too with a decent shower head.

The room also has an out door area which you could sit on or hang your clothes/towel on the wall.

The pool area on first sight looked stunning. There was a large pool near the old part of the hotel which came with a Pool Bar. Down a few steps and you find a small kiddies climbing frame play area (monkey bars/netting, two slides). Next you have a kiddies pool with a mushroom fountain and then you come to the new pool which is sort of horse shoe shaped with two bridges meeting in the centre where there is a jacuzzi (not heated). The pool water was clean. There are a number of mini waterfalls and the area is dotted with palm trees. It looks amazing.

The entrance to the pool (and the surrounding area) did not feel safe for children. For some reason it was quite slippery so we were always on alert. Also, in the kiddies area, there was some sort of soft astro-turf which was coming away from the floor causing a slip hazard.

Unfortunately, during the entire time we were at the hotel, the staff did not wash down the pool area at all. The ground is covered in dust (from the local fields) and this meant that an outbreak of black foot swept across the hotel. The sun beds whilst comfortable, were never rinsed (imagine all the yucky sweat on them from the day before) and don't expect to see a maid if you bring a bar snack to your sun bed. Often there would be piles of plates sitting in the sun for days.

Another annoyance was the lighting around the pool. Whilst the day time was not a problem, during the night the hotel seemed to go into major economy mode as there was hardly ANY lighting around the pool. Surely a health and safety risk. Moving around between the pool bungalows and the hotel or the pool bungalows and the car parking was definitely a health hazard. Further more, a number of tiles/slats were loose/crumbling around the pool area. Occasionally, someone would step on a sharp piece of tile which was annoying.

Pack a torch or prepare for some pain. Although, i did see a maintenance man working on the lighting on the final day of my holiday so this could be fixed now...?

I'm literally laughing as a write this as the cleaning (and food) was one of the main discussions whilst chilling out pool side. I'm not sure if the cleaners actually know how to clean. Bath tub with black rings and limescale. Dirty towels picked up and refolded for use three days in a row!!?!?!?!! And even then you had to BEG the people on reception for a clean one. Bed linens were changed three times a week.

The funniest situation was when we spoke with reception about the dirty bath and he suggested that we SHOW the cleaner what needs to be cleaned. Errrr no! The staff should put some cleaning fluid on the sponge and actually try scrubbing a bit! FILTH!

Lets start with breakfast.... A few beans swimming in tomato gloup does not equal baked beans. And since when is mushrooms and tinned corn a breakfast dish? Don't get me started on the scrambled eggs. I'm almost certain they were powdered. They tasted like cr*p! And in a country where the stench of farm animals often fills your nostrils when your driving along the motorway, i don't think it's too much to ask for fresh eggs!

Every day there would be something missing. One day it was butter, the next day it was cups. Then there was the day that they put knives out but appeared to run out of forks. Honestly, the hotel was a joke! The only plus point i have for breakfast time was the two lovely ladies that genuinely TRIED to help. They were pleasant and welcoming.

The bar food was awful! Salad with Feta "should" be an enjoyable snack at lunchtime. Not at the Henipa. God knows where they get their Feta from but it was all wrong. For a start it was fizzy. My poor brother tried it and he couldn't swallow it. After taking it back to the bar, we were fobbed off with the excuse that it was actually Anari. Little did the woman know that we are Cypriots (from London) and actually KNOW what both Anari and Feta taste like. We were promptly refunded and received an apology(ish). My niece enjoyed Chips from the bar. I think it says a lot about a hotel when the ONLY thing they can get right is CHIPS!

After two days of breakfast and bar snacks I was certain I would be poisoned and I point blank refused to eat in the hotel again...

The menu is okay. However many of the options were not actually available (for whatever reason). One night we were at the bar (about 18 of us). We were drinking and chatting away and having a great night. At midnight the 4 staff just packed up and left. We were all pretty annoyed but apparently they were going to the local Kareoke so that was that...

The "Happy Hour" lasts for exactly ONE hour. Don't expect any miracles here. You'd do better to spend €40 taking a taxi to Ayia Napa and attending one of the many bars or clubs in the area. Kahlua Bar and Pirates are worth a mention.

Back at the Henipa I found it hard to believe that a glass of Triantafilo (Rose Cordial mixed with water) could cost €3.50 especially when a beer only cost €3.00. Anyway, i called one of the managers out on this one and had it out with him. I think he was ashamed when i pointed out (in Greek) that i could buy a bottle of Rose cordial for €1.50. He offered me a free drink but did not apologise. It was at this point that i decided i would not DRINK anything from this rip off hotel either.

Nearby, you will find two or three restaurants. There is also a beach shack type of place that does fantastic sandwiches. There are also a number of kiosks a short walk away including one which is open 24 hours a day. I was certain I would've died a horrible death if i continued eating and drinking at the Henipa and the only reason I am still alive is thanks to the bakery nearby called The Bakerman which specialises in fresh, wholesome, yummy baked goods. When I discovered this bakery I made sure to let all my friends/family know because not one person in our group was happy with the food/drink at the Henipa.

Our group spent a small fortune on drinks and nibbles from the local kiosks and bakery. It didn't have to be like that but the hotel did not make an ounce of effort. So, it was my absolutely pleasure to inform any new people at the hotel of the bakery and kiosks down the road...

After you leave the hotel and cross the dual carriage way and walk a bit further through some shrubbery, you will arrive at the pebble beach. It's not awful, but it's certainly not comfortable. There are some truly beautiful beaches in Larnaca. Don't waste your time on this one.

HAHAHA! What service? This hotel has NO concept of service. The management are a joke. The bar staff don't care. The cleaners don't know how to clean. I feel sorry for the owner really because it could be so much better.

-The wonderful friends and family that were there.
-The baked goods from The Baker Man
-The sunshine
-The food (NOT from the hotel)
-The friendly people (generally NOT the hotel staff)

Do yourself a favour, don't give up on Cyprus because of this review. I've been there many times and truly love the island. It is a beautiful country with great food, people & night life. You CAN find your dream holiday here but i would rather stick pins in my eyes than ever spend a penny on this abomination!

Henipa Hotel.... NEVER EVER AGAIN! Not even if you paid me!

Room Tip: Pool bungalows are better than main hotel

The Henipa is on Dekalia Road and is just a short bus/taxi ride from the Town Centre. The journey time from Larnaca Airport is about 15 mins by taxi. We didn't hire a car but if we had there was plenty of easy parking and only 5 mins to the Island's motorway network.

The hotel stands in its own grounds and we found our only reason for going out was to take a short walk for the English morning papers (printed on the Island). Most of the rooms are in the main block but there are also a series of bungalows and this is where we stayed. The room was spotless and cleaned ever day.

There was a good choice of food in the restaurant and by the poolside bars and we certainly wanted for nothing.

The 2 stand out points of commendation for us us would be easily
1. The friendliness and professionalism of the Staff and Management and
2. The excellent value for money
