“Heavenly weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

Felt as rested and revived after a weekend here as 2 weeks anywhere else. Iain and Patricia could not do enough to help us in all aspects of our stay. The pool was out of this world (large, attractive and beautifully maintained) in a lovely garden with gentle hills visible all around and the rooms beautifully presented with so much attention to detail including the immaculately laundered sheets on the bed which smelt divine. Breakfasts include so much! with fresh coffee regularly replenished or tea or probably whatever!
The village is very attractive with old stylishly renovated buildings but real, as most inhabitants are French working people.
We loved it so much we are going back with a bunch of friends next week!

OK....you best get a cup of tea to read this one but it's worth it! If your anything like me then you will have taken days and weeks to find just the right place.......checking reviews on Trip Advisor and working out if it really is as bad/good as the reviews say.

Firstly I want to quantify my idea of quality and service etc.......I've holidayed in the USA, Barbados, Turkey, Spain, Greece and a few other places.......My favourite place to eat in Frenchies Dinner on the beach in Clearwater, Florida...the atmosphere is cool and relaxed, the service superb and food is great........I know your wondering what this has to do with Le Coq Du Nord but just stick with me a moment.......the best breakfast I had was at the 6 star Crane Hotel on Barbados overlooking the Caribbean sea and one of the top 5 beaches in the world (both are easy to find on the Internet). OK so you know my values.

Le Coq Du Nord is stunning and the pictures of the pool area and veranda don't do it justice. Iain and Patricia are great hosts; Iain is a straight talker but has a heart of Gold, as does Patricia. The whole place is spotless, the rooms are first class. The bathrooms are as good as I have seen in any hotel (and this includes the one by the pool). Take it from me the actual rooms etc are spot on.

By the pool there is a large oven style BBQ, sink, fridge, cabinet full of plates, knives & forks, glasses, plastic glasses...everything you would ever want to cater for yourself. This was important to me as I like to buy great local food (which Iain will show you where to buy from) and BBQ, drink cold beer, cold Cava etc etc while the kids play in the pool. The BBQ and veranda with its large table and sofas is a real addition if your a family.

The village is a small village and very quite.....one small bar (open sometimes) and a small shop (we never used it as it was shut more than open but the supermarket was only 10 mins away) so if you want a busy place this village is not for you. However Le Coq Du Nord is well situated for getting around the are.......so many restaurants and all great value. Narbonne and Biezier are only 20 mins away, the coast is not far too.

I will return to Le Coq Du Nord in the blink of an eye. It is relaxing, very family friendly, clean, fantastic pool and the best breakfast I have had anywhere in France....joking apart you will struggle to finish it Mmmmmmmmm.

This is a foot note for Iain and Patricia....Jo and I cannot thank you enough for your hospitality. You are both incredible indeviduals and it was an honour to meet you. I know that sounds a bit strong but your generosity is incredible. We think of Le Coq Du Nord as "our place in the South of France"......Thanks again.....

Just go Book it........we all can't be wrong :)

Room Tip: We looked at the Gite too and it is superb........no tip required apart from book it...

We spent a week in this wonderful B&B and my only complaint was that it just wasn't long enough. Iain & Trish are amazing hosts who simply couldn’t do enough to help. I have a fussy two year old son & nothing was too much trouble for Iain & Trish.
The room we stayed (the poppy room) was lovely. Very clean & well laid out. The quiet air conditioning was very welcome in the summer heat.
The Garden & pool area is amazing & where we spent most of our time. The children had run of the pool and where made to feel at home.
If you want somewhere peaceful, idyllic, relaxing & tranquil for your holidays - think no more Le Coq Du Nord is the place for you!!

Le Coq du Nord is a beautifully converted village house with high quality rooms, a beautiful terrace and pool, a superb breakfast and hosts, Ian and Patricia who spare no effort to make guests feel welcome yet without overwhelming them. Mailhac is a lovely village surrounded by vineyards, within easy reach of the beautiful Canal du Midi and the beaches beyond Narbonne. We loved it all - even though we saw Andy Murray lose the Wimbledon final whilst we were there.!

The owners of this B&B really do everything to please their guests! Everything is done with eye for detail, such as airco in the rooms, anti-fire/smoke alarm in the room, a free glass of rosé wine at your arrival... and so on. It was without doubt the best breakfast we ever had in France, compleet with fresh fruits and orange juice, and the swimmingpool is large and beautifully decorated. We also got a map with all nice, local restaurants marked on it, all in an area of max. 15 km. from the guesthouse, which was a usefull guide to enjoy dining. We stayed for 5 nights and were sorry to leave!

We loved staying here. Iain and Patricia are really excellent hosts. We got lots of information every day on places to go, a lovely breakfast with fruit and bread fresh from the bakers that morning. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything was spotless and stylish with comfortable classy rooms, plus we had a fabulous pool to swim in every morning to start the day. We could barbecue and walk in the village down to the cafe bar on the corner. And only half an hour from Carcassonne Airport and the crystal clear waters of the Med in the other direction. This is an ideal place to stay and I will recommend it to everyone. Thanks very much Iain and Patricia. See you soon.

We have just returned from a early Spring break at Le Coq du Nord. We could not have asked for a more relaxing break. Our room was lovely and large and beautifully clean with the bed being extremely comfortable all things required for an enjoyable stay. The pool looked very inviting but it was a little cold for swimming (maybe next time). Trisha and Iain were very helpful, guiding us with their knowledge of the area with places to visit. So if you are looking for great b&b and plenty places to see this has got to be your base.

Room Tip: The room we were in (Irises) was lovely
