“A gorgeous little country hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2011

We spent just one night here but would have loved to have stayed longer! The location just outside Bagno Vignoni is fabulous - it only took us a few minutes to walk across the little footbridge and up into the old village. Our bedroom was spacious and tastefully decorated. There were lovely views from the bedroom and from the bathroom too. (Oh yes, just as well we didn't want to watch the television - because it didn't work!)

Breakfast was excellent (I loved the super-fresh fruit salad) and the waiter was charming. We ate in the restaurant twice (on the evening we arrived and at lunch the next day). The food was excellent (although it would have helped to have had a menu in English too!). Service was attentive and relaxed - we never felt rushed. The gardens and swimming pool area were much more attractive than they appear on the website.

The Hotel Osteia Dell'Orcia is a perfect example of what you see on postcards of the Tuscan landscape. It is beautifully situated smack in the middle Tuscany with easy access to nearby villages and towns. The hotel staff are friendly, the rooms are comfortable with a good view, and the lobby or lounge area reminds me of the country lodge that it is. The restaurant serves a decent breakfast that is included in the room price while the evening meals are not that good and much too expensive. I recommend eating in the nearby town for better food at a more reasonable price.

This is an excellent hotel with charming staff and great food. It's a 10-minute walk from Bagno Vignoni and within easy reach of surrounding Val d'Orcia towns. Rooms and bathrooms are of average size but in very good condition. The pool looked inviting but the weather was cool, so we didn't try it.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a Headwater Walking Holiday. It was easily the best one of the four hotels we stayed in. What a welcome - even their dog was pleased to see us! Our room was in the annexe but we had no complaints. It was a good size, beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. The hotel is situated in what seems to be the middle of nowhere, very quiet and peaceful.
All the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Dinner was superb. We were able to choose from the a la carte menu without any extra charge. The buffet breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and WARM croissants in there own warming cupboard - luxury. There was a lovely outside swimming pool and the gardens surrounding the pool and hotel were well looked after.
We had walked from Campiglia d'Orcia, about 15kms, but our stamina was improving as we were all in better shape than after the walk on our first day.
There is a thermal spa at Bagna Vignole which is only a short walk from the Osteria. It is a very pretty but touristy village. Plenty of cafes, shops and high priced boutiques but well worth the walk. There are several spa hotels to choose from. The one we went to charged 15 euros for the day, the other hotels were more expensive but did offer more facilities. The spa was good but not on a par with the one at San Filippo. Apparently they have to heat the water as it does not come out of the ground at a hot enough temperature and it is not nearly as sulphurous but we whiled away a pleasant and relaxing few hours and at least it gave our feet a rest.
We would have liked to have stayed longer but this was a walking holiday and our next destination was San Quirico nearly 20kms away.

From the moment we drove up to Hotel Osteria Dell'Orcia we knew the place was going to be perfect. The villa had an old world charm and sense of hospitality that we had never experienced before. The hotel is easy to find as long as you have a good GPS system. It is near enough to visit places like Montalcino and Siena, but far enough to experience the true beauty of the Tuscan region.
The owners were very hospitable and accommodating. They even gave us a great bottle of champagne upon our arrival! King Arthur (the resident Bernese Mountain Dog) was also a nice welcome when coming back to the villa from a day of exploring.
Our room was on the second floor and had a beautiful view of the Tuscan landscape. The room and bathroom were large, clean and beautifully decorated.
Breakfast at the hotel was always a treat. They provided delicious homemade pastries, fruits, meats, breads, etc. Breakfast is served buffet style, but a very nice waiter will bring you coffee, tea, or juice. You really feel pampered! The hotel is also home to one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I think it may be a four or five star. We ate at the hotel one night and it was truly amazing. It is very quaint (maybe 7 table) and outdoors. Perfect for a nice summer evening in Tuscany.
Being in Italy for two weeks, this region and the hotel was, by far, the highlight of our honeymoon.

This is a wonderful hotel. Across the valley from Bagno Vignoni, with hugely expensive, rip off hotels, this is an immaculately converted post house, with just the right balance of modern furniture with Tuscan old school feel. The rooms are great, the size of the hotel (only about 16 rooms if I remember correctly) is intimate, a lovely pool to hang out by, and you can go across the baths if you are so disposed. It is also a short drive to San Quirico d'Orcia and Montalcino. The managers also make a huge difference - nothing is too small for them to do. Seriously, they take genuine pleasure in helping you and making your stay enoyable. And the restaurant is top quality - amazing ingredients, simply prepared. All for a reasonable price.....
