“Amazing place, loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

My future (at that time) wife and I stayed at the Taverna at January 2011. It was our first visit to Tuscany, and our first night outside of Firenze, in the Agriturismo. We've booked a Fiordalisi suite 2 months or so in advance and were expecting to spend 2 nights in a nice countryside house. Well, our expectations were met in full! First of all, we were coming on a rented car from Firenze, via Lucca and Pisa, and were afraid to get lost, as our navigation system didn’t show Loc.Bibbiano at all, and it was getting already dark. Luckily, with a little help from locals in a small roadside restaurant, we managed to find the place. Back in early 2011 the Taverna didn’t offer any food but breakfast (only wine and lavender was in store in the evening, we were told) - so we had some wine (delicious) and went to sleep. Next morning we woke up to the most breathtaking view of the fog over the Tuscany hills. The breakfast was great and plenty (since there were not many tourists in early January). The views around were just wonderful. Next two days we’ve spent travelling around the Tuscany (lots to see around the place) and mostly stayed for the night in the Taverna, and we really enjoyed it. Too bad we couldn’t have dinner in Taverna but San Gimignano was just a short drive away and we went there. Marzia was super-welcoming and nice to us. We’ve taken 3 bottles of local wine home with us, as well as a few lavender saches that still keep the aroma. Next April we’re planning on travelling in Tuscany again and would love to stop by again to have a lunch and say hi to Marzia.

After a thorough search on the internet we came across
Taverna di Bibbiano; all we can say is that it is a truly Tuscan Gem!!We stayed there over the New Year and it was absolutely lovely.
The location is superb as from the rooms there is a picturesque view of San Gimignano
in the midst of hills and valleys and the area around the Taverna is surrounded with lavender and Rosemary; a perfect place to sit and stare. The rooms were always clean and warm, the breakfast always ready with a tasty homemade selection of both sweet and savoury pastries.Last but not least whenever we chose to eat at the restaurant we always had food made to perfection. All the staff at the taverna are friendly and
helpful. I think staying there is a real treat for everyone. Hopefully we will be back soon!!

We were on our honeymoon, and asked Marzia, the owner if there was availability. She replied that because I was on my honeymoon, she would upgrade me to a junior suite and give me a discount! I asked for neither of those, while she simply offered. That kind of genuine hospitality is hard to find these days, not to mention that this villa is gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous, with sweeping views San Gimignano. The rooms are beautifully renovated, with hand painted walls, doors and cabinets. The garden and pool are surrounded by green grass, beautiful garden of lavender and sage. When we arrived, there was a bottle of wine, with a bag of lavender (from their little shop where we bought more to give out as souvenirs), with decorations of two married couple and a personal note for us. I honestly have to admit, that kind of personal touch made our honeymoon. We'll never forget this absolute gem!

On the way to San Gimignano we passed the Taverna and decided to give it a try for lunch. The view was breathtaking and the food - more importantly - was excellent. The menu is limited to what the cook feels like that day; there were about 2 options for each course and they were some of the best we had in Tuscany. Our waiter spoke excellent english so we didn't have much chance to ruin his language. From what I was told by an Italian family at the next table the olive oil produced at the agritourismo is quite special. Bottom line is a great Tuscan eating experience.

We unfortunately were not staying at the taverna but spent each day there having lunch and dinner, We had tried most of the restaurants in Colle val d'Elsa and found them lacking in ambience.with a very limited offering and certainly no views to match this place. Well I was going to put my photos up but they are already there.it is impossible to take a bad one of the amazing panoramic views
The owners are so keen that you enjoy what is their home they welcome children and pets and certainly make you feel very much at home.
The staff will do anything to oblige and certainly give the right impression of the place to visitors.
The pool is perfect and there is always a little breeze which was very welcome in August. We will be back and stay this time

We drove by here 3 years ago by chance while Marzia, the owner, was renovating. It was beautiful then and Marzia was so gracious, she stopped her work and gave us a tour. The location had stunning views of valleys full of sunflowers with San Gimignano in the background. We made it a point to stay here when we returned to Italy. The rooms are beautifully renovated, with hand painted walls, doors and cabinets. The gardens flourished with lavender and sage. Marzia and Martina couldn’t do enough to accommodate us. The garden patio was the ultimate place to have breakfast and their unique and wonderfully tasty dinners. Sunsets over the castle-like San Gimignano were exquisite. All this and a pool where we enjoyed the local wines sold in their little shop after a long day of touring. Hospitable and comfortable, they are minutes away from San Gimignano and 20 minutes from the beautiful, but quiet, town of Volterra. What a great find in Tuscany.

We didn't stay here but went for a meal one evening. A simple meal but probably the best of the holiday. The service was a bit erratic as I think they probably had more 'outsiders' than usual so were busier than usual but the young waitress coped well and kept her humour.
Fresh, simple food very well cooked. Wine extremely good value. The added advantage is the terrace restaurant has stunning views so you can eat and watch the sun go down over San Gimignano.
