“San Quirico on biking trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

This village is quiet and an exceptional Tuscany experience. The Hotel is as advertised and has excellent rooms and service. Rooms were a little small, but not a problem. I doubt that there is a "bad" room in the hotel. The staff was exceptionally accommodating. The restaurant provided exceptional meals. The gardens were a great place to relax. Our only criticism was the breakfast. Cold egg dishes are not very appealing and bread items were hard as a rock. We are early risers and the staff continued to build the buffet 30 minutes after opening. The hotel is definitely worth the experience

Room Tip: It really didn't seem to matter!

After Verona and Venice coming back to Tuscany was a most pleasant surprise when I arrived at Palazzo del Capitano. Way cheaper than what we faced up north, it delivers on the laid back, attentive service, delicious food, promise it made. Great for wine tasting vacations, its smack in the middle between Montalcino and Montepulciano. Its restaurant and breakfast is amazing and worth going every day.

Palazzo del Capitano is a piece of heaven. The staff, the, spacious room, the breakfast and the amazing garden built on top floor. It´s close to Montalcino, Bagno Vignoni and even went to Siena and came back. I´ll come again!

Room Tip: The Orione room is big and silent, but you must go up the stairs 2 floors. I think was worth it.

This is a spectacular hotel!
We were traveling through Tuscany and we decided to stay here as it was on our way.
The Hotel had good reviews but we had an amazing surprise when we arrived.

We were booked here as part of a walking holiday in Toscana. We were given a room a little distant from the main hotel. It was comfortable. However the fittings showed evidence of poor workmanship with various articles coming off the walls or not fitted properly. The hotel was advertised with Internet, however despite asking and trying we were not able to access the service. The room was part of a complex, unfortunately one of our neighbours came in late at night accompanied with slamming of doors and much un necessary noise. There was no A.C, a large fan being placed in the room which worked well. Free afternoon tea was provided which was appreciated. Breakfast was excellent with a large selection of choices. The garden was a great place to chill out. Staff were helpful and eager to please.

Room Tip: Don't stay out of the main hotel if you wish to have a restful night.

Such a lovely, romantic and special place in a very sweet little town! My boyfriend and I were travelling around France and Italy and I am so happy that our friends recommended this place to us. Upon arriving it was just perfect, the room was beautiful, romantic, clean, and the hospitality was fantastic! Great area for wine tours, relaxing and great food! Even though the weather was a little rainy during our stay I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. We will for sure be back!!

We spent 2 nights in this beautiful old town. Hotel is lovely with a beautiful back patio, however the hotel lacks the excellent management we found at other small hotels in Tuscany. I have made many trips to this area and generally stay at high rated hotels. This hotel had only a clerk in the lobby and seemed to lack an on site senior manager or owner that other properties had. When we arrived, our room smelled of incense and smoke and all the windows were wide open. This may have been because it was unseasonable cold and someone had built a fire in the fireplace the night before. I asked about heat and was told that the head was turned off in April and they could not turn it on again. It is true that in Italy you are not supposed to use head after May 1 or use air conditioning before, but that is only a guideline and exceptions can be made for unusual weather. May 2013 was the coldest May in 200 years, it was 4 degrees centigrade some nights, under 40 degrees Farenheit. They offered us a little electric heater. Every other hotel we visited had the central heat on. One hotel said it had cost 200 Euros to have the plumber come out to turn the heat back on but he had to do it for the guests because it was so cold.

I will say that when I said that I could not sleep in a smoky room, they did transfer us the first night to an apartment down the street which was adequate. In general the staff tried to be helpful, but they had limited authority

Other examples of cheap service included no free bottled water in the rooms, no fresh fruit at breakfast. Unlike most hotels that offer granola or meusli at breakfast, they only offered cheap commercial cereals. BTW the hotel has a very nice restaurant around back.

The hotel has a spa which they push on you to get in a package. We did not try the spa but it looked attractive.

Room Tip: If you go in cold weather ask if they have heat.
