“Spectacular setting on the side of the Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Stayed on 4 night Ramblers Holiday and really enjoyed it. Rooms are not "en-suite" but bathroom is just across the Hall and it is not a problem. Carol and Brian keep a very well run and very clean establishment. Views from the hotel are stunning and food is excellent. No mobile phone signal or TV at the Hotel, but it is nice to get away from it all sometimes. Free Wi-fi is available in most rooms.

Room Tip: Get one at the back overlooking the Lake.

Unparalleled views from all guest bedrooms, comfortable accommodation, lovely, home cooked food and right in the heart of Wainwright country so a perfect base for walking. The lack of en-suite facilities is more than compensated for by the unbeatable location. Don’t let it put you off. The showers are hot and powerful and there are plenty of them.

Room Tip: All the rooms overlook the lake so there's no chance of missing out on a view.

This is a fantastic place to come and put the stresses and strains of modern life behind you. A large country house that was converted into a hotel some years ago, there is a whiff of the hostel here as many of the rooms are smallish twin beds with a shared bathroom. But that in some ways is part of the charm. The hotel is used by the ramblers association for walking holidays around Buttermere and the surrounding area. Hassness house is very welcoming, with cheerful country style rooms very relaxed but well organised, immaculately clean and tidy. The food is well presented and delicious. A real get away from it all hotel in a very beautiful secluded setting on the banks of lake buttermere

Room Tip: There is one double room and several compact twin rooms

Thanks very much for posting your review, we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us at Hassness and hope to see you again soon. Just to clarify though, Hassness Country House and its operators Ramblers Worldwide Holidays are unconnected to the Ramblers Association (The Rambers) despite having a similar name. We do however provide direct funding to local walking groups affiliated to The Ramblers, (as well as others), though The Walking Partnership to help support the work of grassroots walkers in the UK.

Visited Hassness for 3 nights (25th-27th Sept2013) as a walking group full house booking. Thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful quiet, secluded, homely and welcoming house within a beautiful setting. Had a single room which was nice, clean, comfortable with excellent views. Shared bathrooms were not a problem and had superb power showers and the house itself was always very clean and tidy. Breakfast was at 8am with fabulous choices and evening meal was 7pm with very good food. Our Guide (Ian) was a lovely chap who was both caring, accommodating and patient. Overall a great stay with good weather and I look forward to returning.
Good rooms, fantastic views, great service and food - well done Brian, Carole and Ruby.(&Ian)

Stayed here with a Walking Group. Fantastic location, wonderful food, lovely hosts (thank you Brian, Carole and Ruby). Although the 'facilities' are shared, there were never any queues (!) and the power showers are awesome! This is a really fabulous Country House and absolutely perfect as a base for fell walking in the North Lakes.

Great house, fantastic hosts, delicious food (& cakes), amazing setting, tranquil escape!
Offers an escape from the pressures of everyday life, no TV, no phone signal and limited wifi.
Shared bathrooms, but plenty of them so not a problem.
Eating is at set times which is a little off putting if you want a lie in, but the food and service is great!

Room Tip: All good, but I love the views from the bay window of room 10.
