“We love Cosmo the cat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Stunning scenery, great walking paths easily accessible that bring you around a beautiful lake, a very nice campsite indeed. James and Kelly were lovely and very helpful, the facilities were clean and spacious, the site itself is picture perfect, the breakfast was hearty and delicious for a great price. For a nice walk, go down to the lake and turn right and follow the path to the town for some good food at the inn. And don't forget to say hello to Cosmo the friendly kitty!

Room Tip: Bring insect repellent (for the midges!!!)

A friend and I have stayed at Dalegarth a couple of times now, and find it an ideal base for walking in the Western Lake District. The B and B is cheap and cheerful, friendly, clean and comfortable and does great breakfasts. The hosts are very laid back and accommodating, and extremely welcoming. Rooms are very basic: don't come here for a romantic retreat or to while away the hours in bed with a book, but are clean and comfortable enough. Dogs are welcome too. The location is superb with at least half a dozen superlative day walks from the door. We used it as a base to tackle some of the more remote Ennerdale and Wasdale fells. It is a 15 minute or so beautiful lakeside stroll to the village with its 2 great pubs and gorgeous ice cream shop and cafe. Get up half an hour early and walk through the grounds to Buttermere lake to catch it in the early morning light and get it to yourself for a few moments, it truly deserves the title of The Pearl of the Lakes.

Room Tip: If you can't live without en suite, make sure you definitely specify on booking - some rooms sha...

Stayed here in the guest house for one night at the weekend, one of the few places you can stay only one night. Beautiful location, very good value compared to other accomoration in buttermere. Not too far from the village. Very friendly. Nice breakfast. Able to order packed lunch/sandwiches.

Me and my boyfriend used this site to camp for 3 nights this week, we chose the week after bank hol to beat the crowds but there was quite a few campers having the same idea. The weather was very wet but the ground was still decent to put our tent up.

Facilities wise they have a dry room which is essential for when its rainy and this definately makes camping more comfortable in rainy weather. There is hot running water for washing pots and the showers are 50p but last ages. There is only one shower and two toilets but that did seem to be an issue even though there was a few campers. There is an onsite seating area with a fridge freezer and you can park close to your tent.

The location is absolutely fantastic, views are breathtaking. a few minutes down the bottom of the campsite takes you onto buttermere lake and the start of trails for some fantastic walking. The campsite is situated about 20 mins walk or 5 minute drive from buttermere village where you'll find two farm shops, 2 pubs and a hotel. We stopped by syke farm shop to get some delicious icecream after a strenious walk up robinsons. Keswick is a 20 minute drive away, and the drive is absolutely gorgeous. The staff who run the campsite and guesthouse are really friendly and helpful. I will defiantly be using this campsite again. can't wait to go back :)

We camped here over the Easter weekend and really enjoyed ourselves, despite the weather not being great. We piched our tent in a lovely spot on one of the terraces, Short walk to the edge of buttermere and a 20 minute stroll the the pubs and a fantastic little tea shop that did flavours of ice cream to die for!!!
The campsite facilities were ok although I agree with other reviews about the fact that 1 shower and 2 toilets would not cope very well if the campsite was full. The owners are developing a room that can be used by campers which is equipped with fridge freezer, camping stove, chairs etc. The drying room was fantastic (and we definitely needed it with all the wet weather we had!)
All in all we would stay there again - just hope we get better weather next time!

Lovely and pleasant location. I love Buttermere. The guest house is just a short walk from the side of the lake. Plenty of easy-to-use parking space outside. The hotel manager, and his wife and staff, were very pleasant and helpful.
The breakfast was very nice, well-cooked to my own order, and filling.
The bedroom was attractive and comfortable. It wasn't en-suite, but the bathroom - just along the hallway - was attractive, clean and well-kept.
The only point which I didn't like, wa\s that the double bed seemed as bit on the small side. It wasn't really big enough for both my husband and myself. As we both like a lot of room in bed at night, we would probably have been better with a twin-bedded room.
Apart from that detail, it's a lovely house, and well-run.

We camped here just outside of peak season in mid-September so the campsite was quiet and relatively empty. The site itself is small and terraced and in a remote location but easy to get to by road and just a short path away from the lakeside.

Following 5 weeks solid of rain (as I’ve come to expect in the Lake District) the ground was in surprisingly good condition so finding a decent pitch for the tents was no problem
The amenities were clean and more than adequate for us and the campsite owners were very friendly and helpful

Although the campsite is dog friendly, the field is also home to a small flock of sheep which means you have to keep a close eye on your pet
The location provides excellent access to the hills for walking and the drying room, which you’ll almost certainly need, is excellent

In the evenings, there are 2 pubs in buttermere village which are either a 25 minute walk away on the path along the side of the lake or a 5 minute drive, although, they don’t allow dogs and don’t expect a cosy country pub – the food seemed very over-priced

I might think twice about staying at this campsite in the high-season as only 1 shower and 2 WC’s between a whole campsite is stretching it a bit

Room Tip: Take your own food as the pubs are expensive. 50p coins for shower
