“A piece of Heaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

Who knew heaven lies just 3.5 hours from Guwahati?!
This place is straight out of a calendar. The bungalow, the sprawling landscape, the pines, it couldn't get better, except that it does! Our room was a luxurious tent, fixed with western toilet and heater, there was bonfire in the evening and a fireplace to sit by at night. We spent two nights at this place and it was perfect. The food was awesome too!
I almost rated it 5/5, but the only disappointment were the waking hours of the hotel staff. We woke up late at 9am, but apparently, the staffers are even more lazy than us! All in all, a fantastic place to spend the weekend!

I wrote about my weekend at http://skimble-scamble.blogspot.in/2014/02/cafe-cherapunjee.html

“Cafe Cherrapunjee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

This is the second time I have visited this same place but with a new name and new management and boy was I impressed. The theme of the place was on the old forgotten days of Shillong before the Great Earthquake of 1897. Many of the photos hung on the was were collectables. Infact they even had a waiting room with an old Gramaphone which even had extra pins, some old movie posters, a telescope, an antique World time Wall Clock, etc etc which will take you back to the Golden Era. And by the way, the food has also so much improved from the last time I visited.

“Neither too far nor too near. . .too rainy or shiny. . fogs. .bonefire. .old monk all the way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

Well if Cherra is too far this is where you come. Or if with too much time, here you should break your journey stretch the legs and open the bottles.

Very soon they are going to upgrade to a resort with 10 cottages so be it some time alone, time together, or big bash, this is gonna be the place.

For now i have tried their two varities of chicken dish, one dried fish chutney, local herbs salad plus pork fry in bbq sause which was superb specially with the cut glass gulpings!

But i guess the first thing thats going to impress any first timer is the old British Bunglow charm thats perfectly intact and as the fogs arrive you can travel through time as well.

By the way the plave have been re named Cafe Cherrapunjee and is walking distance feom that tea point bridge.

“Nice place to relax and have a cup of coffee”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

This cafeteria is run by Meghalaya Tourism department along with the Institute of Hotel Management Shillong. The premesis was earlier an old british bunglow used later as an inspection bunglow by the PWD department. The drive way as well as the building has its own character and worth visiting. Not many such bunglows exist in Meghalaya anymore. A reminence of the past. Well coming to the food, there is not much on the menu but what ever is there it is well prepared with good ingrediants. Best part is that sometimes you have the whole dining room to yourself. An execellant place to stop for a cup of tea or coffee mid way between Cherrapunjee and Shillong. You will find it just next to the Mawkdok Bridge and viewpoint.
