“Nice Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

A pleasant hotel situated opposite the beach front with a great selection of cafe and taverns close by.
Rooms were modern and clean with a spacious verandah.
Hotel reception were helpful and willing to assist.
Breakfast buffet supplied the basic essentials.

We spent 3 nights at the Pharae Pallace at the end of September. We arrived on a Friday without a reservation and paid 90 Euro a night for what was called a suite, but was really just a very large room with breakfast, free wifi and parking. The regular rooms were 70 Euro a night and have the same bathroom and king bed with a love seat and balcony including breakfast and wifi. I think it also included parking. We opted for the larger room since it had a full sea view and the only regular room available that weekend was on the side with a partial sea view. The hotel has about 8 or 9 spaces in an underground garage accessible on the side of the building so it’s first come, first served. There are two elevators.

The hotel is very nice and extremely clean. The room had a king bed that was very comfortable with foam pillows. I didn’t care for them but there were extra regular pillows and blankets in the closet. The A/C worked great. There was plenty of closet space, a safe and mini-bar and a large shelf/desk. The bath was spacious with a tub/shower combination and a nice large counter. I usually have almost half a carry-on suitcase full of skin and hair care products and paraphernalia so having storage space in the bath is very important to me. There was good water pressure and lots of electrical outlets. There were no washcloths or tissues.
Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful, even arranging to send out some laundry for us. The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to the beach and many cafes and restaurants, most of which had free wifi. We were on the top floor in the corner and had problems accessing the internet from our iPad in our room. We mentioned it the next morning and they increased the signal strength in our room which helped a little. It wouldn’t work on the balcony, but worked great in the lobby.

The breakfast buffet had a great selection. There were breads, pastries, cereals, canned fruit, whole fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, several types of eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, honey, jams, lunch meats, cheeses and more. I think there may have been cappuccino too, but I’m not positive. We only ate at the buffet one morning; we had coffee and toast/pastry from room service on our balcony the rest of the mornings. I highly recommend this hotel.

I expected a 4 star hotel, instead at almost everything this hotel takes 5 stars. Staff was very friendly and helpfull all the time. The room was nice, clean and value for money. The breakfast was very good and the coffee just excellent! I strongly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Choose the sea view. It's more expensive but it's worth it.

We wanted to attend a concert taking place in Kalamata since we missed it in the Athens area. I chose the hotel based on other reviews and the location (looked like walking distance from the venue). Other than the google maps location, everything else was perfect. The actual location is a little closer to the city center than the map shows.
If you're visiting Kalamata for business or to visit friends/relatives that live close to the center, Pharae Palace is a great choice. It definitely lived up to it's 4-star rating, and at a reasonable price as well. The common areas were spacious and clean, and the room was spotless as well. The room furnishings were very nice (including a pillowtop bed), the bathroom had new fixtures, and it looks like the hotel has been recently been refurbished (some minor work seemed to still be underway). The included breakfast was rich, with all kinds of items on offer, both of continental and european/american varieties.
Where the hotel went above and beyond the basics was service. Since tickets for the concert didn't seem to be available online, and due to the popularity of the performers and our same day arrival, I was concerned about getting tickets. An email to the hotel, followed up by a call a few days later, took care of that. The hotel made arrangements for 2 tickets to be held for us and brought over to the hotel that day. A potential headache was turned into a customer service lesson for other hotels.
This hotel wouldn't be my first choice if all I wanted to do in the area was go to the beach (there is a public beach across the street but it's nothing but ordinary with no real facilities available). But for any other purpose, I would stay here again in a heartbeat! This was a great visit!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the water have a very nice view of the Messinian Bay.

The staff are friendly and the renovated rooms are good however there is still a lot of work going on and the ratings will improve when it is complete. Designated 'Sea view' rooms may only be partial because there is another building in front of of the hotel so ask for something high and to the left of the building (as you are looking at the hotel). Breakfast was hearty but decor seems to be from an earlier era. I hope an upgrade is included in the renovations.

I remembered as soon as I checked in that I stayed there before.... lovely place, nice staff (rare to find in Peloponnese that usually people are rude especially in restaurants - try for instance ALL of them at the seafront)...good breakfast..... every time I need to get ove there I will definitely stay in Pharae...
