After being a regular for years and a family friend of the original owners, I was interested to see what the new owners would bring. The previous owners had always stuck to a "pub fare" menu, but done it well.
There was much hype about the new owners having great culinary backgrounds, and the new menu promised to be spectacular.
My wife and I went there for dinner on a special occasion, and were let down immensely.
I can't even remember what the appetizer was, but do remember it being very bland and greasy. When hte main course came, we wished we had taken the appetizer as a hint and left then. My wife had a chicken pot pie, which consisted of an extremely greasy bowl of what can only be called a hot mess, with a square of pastry thrown on top as an after thought. I had the venison, which consisted of an extremely tiny, overcooked, and tough piece of meat, drowned in a sauce which I think was about 80% salt, and an ounce or two of boiled, flavourless, pretentiously served vegetables.
Our dining experience was highlighted by the chef slending most of his time at a computer in the dining area, which may explain the pack of quality in the food. The meal would have been priced high for waht it was if it had been of any quality, but for what we got, it should have been less than 1/4 of the price. I have had better food at many local dives in my travels.
As of my last and final visit, the decor had not been changed for several years, and it shows.
I have no idea where the ego comes from behind this place, because the food cetainly does NOT back it up.
