Took this trip with my family,me, my wife, 2 daughters, aged 3 and 7 for one week between 7th and 14th June. We took the Sea View Rooms on the 4th floor with georgeous views.. Super stunning to spend time endlessly..but then.. The Room was Basic Room, 02 Single beds, 02 bunker beds, (family room, they expect husband and wife to sleep separately) forget luxury, that one would expect on a beach resort, it is far from it. Rooms are small, with basic amenities.. that you need to pay for..2 Euros each per day for frridge, kettle, safe, Need an electrical adapter, the rent is 2 Euros a week, you can buy one from the hotel souvenir shop for 3, or the local convenient stote just outside( 5 min walk, towards the fig tree bay on ur right, for Eu 1.30, I bought both, because the one at the souvenir shop didnt work for my phone charger)
Lets begin with the stay, the location is excellent with great views, and you are just 2-3 minutes drive away from the main fig tree bay, 7 minutes, from cape greko and maybe 10 min from Aiya Napa. (Driving)
now the details, the rooms very basic, bathtub too small for a shower. lighting..someone forgot to put in the lighting..02 bedside lamps, and one lamp on the mirror, thats it, just one in the toilet, that too with CFLs, so its almost like a candle light shower...somehow the whole thing looks like a compromise.. the feeling to deliver is just not there.. its like welcome to economy drive..
Breakfast was eeeks.. can you imagine same spread without a change for one week...eggs, boiled, and hard scarmbled, fried bacon, and sausages, baked beans, juices with loads of sugar..some cheese and salamis, with cereals milk, melon, and oranges, and yogurt.. absolutely low class..
Heading towards the pool, Need a towel, another 2.5 Euros, this time for a week, with a security of 5 Euros per towel to be paid in cash at the pool. no they wouldnt charge it to the room..head down to the beach, it is a public beach, which looks like cavo maris's. need a beach bed, and an umbrella, 2.50 each per day to be paid in cash.... you say to urself, what the #@*% is going on.. here I am in my swim suit, hoping to catch on some great weather, in this beautiful area, with just a camera..and everywhere it feels, they are waiting to pounce on me, to extract something from me..
You know the feeling, when you buy an all inclusive ticket to a theme park, but the main rides, you need to pay extra, you feel silly, it is the same feeling.. even worse, when you are not carrying any cash, hoping to charge the room.. is there anything wrong in here... hospitality.. management of cavo maris are you listening..
Since the connected beach is public, all outsiders casually use the hotel swimming pool toilets and change room, so it stinks..like hell...
the food and service is pathetic.. you ask for something, and they will get you something else..after a long time.. then try to hard sell it to you, saying the thing that you ordered is either not available or will take another 40 minutes.. English is a problem with the waitresess..so it becomes an effort..thank god, good food is available at fig tree main road, close by..
The Kids Club is OK.. keeps the kids occupied.. So is the entertainment Team, which comprises of 3, who are actively involved..But much more needs to be done, can be done, should be done..
Such a fantastic and memorable stay it could have been, it turned out to be really MEDIOCRE, perhaps the detailing is missing..they need to improve on infrastructure, services, food and quality of the same..BIG TIME..
We had fun, because we are persistent travellers, and do not lose our focus even in mediocre conditions.. here are few tips for for the area
1. In Protoras, park behind Eden Square for Free and hit the main fig tree bay area right in the center..
2. Buy ur extras from first convenient store on ur right on the way to fig tree bay from hotel, is small, economical and relevant. open 24x7
3. Definitely rent a car, to hang around, the area.. the air was fresh, weather awesome.. we had a good time..
4. Carry your beer and finger food.. it will come in handy..Cyprus offers great views, but nothing available to eat, in most of the places.
5. In Cyprus there were many firsts of my life
a. first when u rent a car, you return it as empty as u can.. I paid 70 Euros for my tank full, almost 2.5 times the price I would have paid myself to return the tank full
b. The mobile SIM CITAVODA, is for 15 Euros with talktime of 5, I needed to stay in touch with my office, so needed the internet, had to buy another SIM for DATA for Eu 20 which had 5 Euro value or 100 MB.. It expired within 3 hours, when I called tellling them my system only shows 45 MB used, they said, it will not work below if the balance is less than 1 euro..no point of argument, remember the English is low.. just pay Cavo Maris 40 Eu for a week for unlimted access to Internet., and hope it works..:)
6. Carry extra towels, ur own water games, accessories for the pool/beach area.
7. Do not follow the FIRE escape map, in case of an emergency, it is upside down..I brought it to the norice of Management, hope they have changed it..
8. The Aircondtioning sucks..
9. Dont carry too much luggage, they do not have a concierge..porter service..
10. This hotel is very famous with locals on the weekends, was almost packed, on the long weekend.. who come to socialize, catch the sun and swim.. and thats all it offers..:)
Get the Sea View Room, its worth the extra
