This was my first trip to Brazil and to be honest, I had reservations that it would really live up to the dream. But I was so wrong!
After the flight into Florianopolis, we grabbed a cab from the airport to Praia do Rosa and even the drive was awe-inspiring. We finally hit the dirt tracks and pulled up at Casa do Ceo - I'm not sure if the welcome or the view was more inviting. Everything from the service, the cool, ecletic interiors and cosy (and spacious) rooms, to the amazing food (miss breakfast at your peril) - everything is so homely and comfy, it really feels like a home from home.
Ne Ne, Nilo and their crew bent over backwards to look after us and by the end of our stay, we felt like one of the family. There's a real sense of community in Praia do Rosa (honestly, i've never had so many hugs and kisses from complete strangers! But it just feels very normal and natural there) and everywhere you go you really feel the love!
I could have stayed perched on the side of the pool taking in the panaramic view everyday, but the beach was just a short stroll down the hill to the beach where you're surrounded by bronzed gods on surf boards and goddesses in the skimpiest bikinis mankind has to offer. it's a real hangout spot, even as the sun goes down which reaffirms how socialable the locals are. We were here around New Year when you're almost fighting for a grain of sand to sit on, but things definitely quieten down after Jan 1st, so you can get the best of both worlds. And the beach is dotted with cafes and bars serving yummy food and drink, so you can escape the heat as it does get pretty hot in the summer.
I'm not a sunbather, but there was still loads to do other than beach posing: we went horseriding and the instructor took us off into the sand dunes and across a deserted beach which was amazing, We also did some sandboarding which was brilliant fun, or there are loads of watersports on rosa beach and the next beach along (after a lovely walk over the cliff). There really is something for everyone.
You can't ignore the food in this place! I've never eaten so well - esp if you eat meat (the legendary BBQs are not to be missed). Everything is healthy and wholesome and cheap! you can eat out for pennies and still get a great meal. We found loads of great restaurants down the road and there's a few good bars and clubs too which are open late if you want to party.
I could rattle on forever about it because I had such an amazing time! I never write on these review pages, so this is saying a lot! It's like a little slice of heaven which everyone should experience at least once.
