On our last day in Ulvik, we visited Hakastad, which was a great experience and highly recommended. It is a very straightforward 15-20 minute walk from the village centre, with breathtaking views all the way. The tour (involving about eighteen English, Australian, Dutch and Norwegian visitors) started at about 1pm and was given by the very affable owner Asbjorn. He is a really lovely chap, who gives a detailed talk which is interesting, without being dry or dull. After having an explanation of the juice and cider making process and seeing the equipment, we were led to an attractive tasting room, where we sat to sample the range of apple juices and ciders. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience with much banter and laughter as well as additional information. Unusual for Norway, it is possible to buy the lower alcohol cider direct from the producer, which we did as a gift to take home. Make time to visit this producer if you are in the Hardanger region.
