As the title of my review says, this was out second stay at Maui Palms in 18 months. My husband and I knew exactly where to go this time so the travel from Nadi Airport seemed a lot quicker, around 1 hour 15 mins.
On arrival, we were greeted by Christine and Wayne and I felt like I was coming back to visit old friends. We were fortunate enough to be given the same room at a great rate and the room was in exactly the same stunning presentation as before, like nothing had moved. Christine had asked Tony the chef to stay back to prepare something for us, which was great because we were very hungry. We ordered a light meal, prepared beautifully by Tony who then stayed back later so we could eat dessert too. We both had the most AMAZING banana caramel and mixed berry pancakes and ate them while dipping in the pool (which is right beside our room, two meters away from the door).
The resort was booked out while we were there, bringing the grand total of guests to 8. Having only 4 villas on the resort ensures a quiet, peaceful holiday, away from the big crowds of a larger resort. We mostly had the pool to ourselves and if not, it was generally only two others.
I had pre-arranged a jet ski tour and two 1 hour massages which were already paid for. Christine had checked the weather and booked the Jet Ski tour on the most appropriate day weather wise. This was fantastic because it took a large expense out of the 'spending money'.
The staff at Maui Palms are friendly and obliging. Val is there during the day and will do everything from cook you an amazing bacon and eggs brekky to turning down your room. While I was there the hook on my bathers strap broke - I asked Val for a needle and thread to repair it but she simply told me to 'leave it with her'. In 10 minutes she brought it back, fully repaired. She is truly a master of all trades. Tony the chef cooks not only tasty meals but also beautifully presented with generous portions. The meals are also reasonably priced (for a resort).
Our massage therapists (one of whom also worked at Maui Palms) were AMAZING. I can't remember a portion of the massage because I dozed off for a short time. Our massage beds were set up on the grassed area in front of our Villa with the pool beside us and the beautiful coral beach in front in the late afternoon. We were under the shade of some coconut trees with the sounds of the waves crashing in the distance. Couldn't ask for a better backdrop. The oils used were also gentle on the skin and non-irritating.
On the last night of our stay, friend of ours who were staying next door at Naviti came to join us for dinner. They had two young children (5 and 1) and it was no trouble for them to use the pool while they were there. John (another great staff member) and Wayne set up a table on the grass in front of our Villa and we all dined outside with food brought directly to us. Tony cooked some awesome food which catered for everyone, including the kids - then some more of those delicious banana and caramel pancakes (my mouth is watering just thinking about it) and we were stuffed.
Fiji really turned on the weather for us while we were there, raining only twice and only at night. Days were sunny and hot leaving plenty of opportunity for swimming and sun baking, plus some amazing snorkeling right out front of the resort. I can not recommend Maui Palms highly enough and we would not stay anywhere else.
Maui Palms is perfect for couples and families with toddlers or young children, however if you have older kids (7 years and up) you might benefit from the kids clubs at the larger resorts. Other than that, I can't fault them.
Bravo Christine, Wayne and staff.
Pre book and pre pay any expensive tours - ie Jet Ski, river cruises, fishing charters, white water...
