I purchased the Groupon deal for this hotel & overall was very impressed. We were a little nervous driving through the housing estate to get there but don't let this put you off as the hotel is set right away from this, surrounded by fields.
We took our dog with us so had a room on the ground floor (room 24). The room had good amenities including tea, coffee, hot choc which was replaced each day. The room itself was a good size with doors which opened into the garden - ideal with the dog. The only problem I had with the room was that the beds were very very uncomfortable - very soft & you could feel all the springs. However, our friends stayed in a different room and said their bed was very comfy so we may just have been unlucky.
We had dinner there on the first night and the food was delicious - definitely recommend the pork belly. There didn't seem to be many people staying at the hotel and so it was a very quiet atmosphere in the restaurant, this made us feel like we had to almost whisper when talking - however this is only a small criticism. Perhaps some background music may have made it a tad more relaxed. The wine we had was lovely & the service very efficient.
The drinks in the bar are very reasonably priced and they have a couple of board games you can play - this was lovely to do next to the roaring fire after dinner. The staff in the hotel are all fantastic - very friendly and helpful.
There isn't a lot to do in the local area but this was perfect for us as we just wanted a relaxed weekend away and there are lots of lovely local walks. We popped down to Lyme Regis for the day which was quite nice as well. On one of the evenings we ate in a Chinese in Chard & the food here was lovely.
Overall, we had a lovely weekend away, have recommended & would be happy to return. Just one request - please replace the mattresses!
