“Paradise in Quintana Roo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Amazing location, it worth all the bumps on the way to get there. The beach is astonishing and this is the best option if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful destination in Quintana Roo.
The food is great and the staff is very friendly.
We stayed in the beach front bungalow that is amazingly beautiful and right on top of the beach.

It takes around 35km in a road full of bumps to get there, but it's worthy. We rented a small car and we got there but if we return we will definitely rent a 4x4 car.
Prepare yourself to pay for a tip of around 15% on the meal, for every meal, as it happens more or less in all the hotels in Riviera Maya.

Room Tip: We stayed in the beach front bungalow that is amazingly beautiful and right on top of the beach.

Sol Caribe could not be any more chilled out, quiet, and relaxing. The property is situated on a fantastic beach far removed from any civilization. I had a loft suite that had fantastic views of the beach, and the room was well equipped with everything you need.

The onsite restaurant has a great menu, and the cocktails are done just right. If you can pull yourself off any of the daybeds along the beach, kayaks are also available.

It's a long bumpy road from Tulum so gas up in advance, but well worth the effort.

Room Tip: You won't be disappointed with any suite, but the second floor rooms may provide a better view o...

Sol Caribe is one of the nicest boutique style hotels located just north of Punta Allen deep in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. The beach is fabulous. Cottages are cute and clean. I choose this property and location based on their ability to provide the best and most experienced fishing captains and guides for Ascension Bay explorations. Captain Garza and his men are the best of the best on the water. Thank you for your hospitailty, Sol Caribe.

Room Tip: Choose the beach front suite :)

We arrived very late, after the reception had closed. We emailed Frank about the delay and he was kind enough to leave us directions on how to find our room. After a 12 hour plane delay, and a 4 1/2 hour ride, we awoke the next morning to Paradise! What a beautiful location! And we, like the reviewer before us, really don't know what all the fuss is about the road. That's what makes this place so magical! The rooms are large, and the ceiling fans plus the breeze from the ocean make sleeping very comfortable. We did some fly fishing while at Sol Caribe and we can't say enough good things about Christian and Jose. They were wonderful! We caught a huge permit and lots of bonefish. We were hoping for a tarpon, as well, maybe next time. The staff was wonderful. Thanks to Frank and the rest of the gang at Sol Caribe. The grounds and the beach are magnificent. I have never seen such a beautiful beach with jungle. Truly one of a kind, and we have been all over the Caribbean. We shall return!

Not sure what the fuss is about the road to Sol Caribe/Punta Allen... yes, it's bumpy and you have to slow down, but isn't that the point? We rented a Jeep and never even thought once about using 4 wheel drive. You wouldn't want to drive a compact car with low clearance. It took us 1.5 hours from Tulum to Sol Caribe, not bad. After reading reviews I was expecting a landscape similar to the moon, but was pleasantly surprised.

We stayed 6 nights in the beachfront cabana and it was lovely. Well appointed, great shower, always a breeze. The beach was literally steps away.

Food was good, staff was great!

Perfect place for solitude and to completely unwind. Traveled into Punta Allen for a couple of meals and enjoyed the experience. Had a great day of fly fishing, which was arranged through Sol Caribe. We even took one morning and drove back to Tulum to visit the ruins. After about 2 hours of being around people we ran back to Sol Caribe and were thankful to be in a quiet paradise.

We would recommend and would like to return someday!

Room Tip: Of the 8 rooms all were close to the beach, but the lone cabana was special.

Would give this 3.5 stars if could. Stayed in March 2014. Road from Tulum was as bad as the reviews make out. Took 3.5 hours and you need a high clearance vehicle but not a 4x4.

Beaches on the way down were empty but the sea was quite rough (due to the bad weather) and unbelievable amounts of rubbish washed up on the shore and so swimming wasn't an option or even attractive. The beach in front of the hotel was nice as the staff cleared the area immediately after the tide brought the rubbish in. Once the wind had dropped the sea was nice for swimming.

The rooms were rustic, nice and spacious. The loft room had a nice view over the beach.

The downsides were the aforesaid rubbish in the wider area and the lack of atmosphere in the hotel. The restaurant had a limited menu but the food was nice although on the expensive side. The margaritas were also very good. However, the bar and restaurant were always very dark with somewhat uncomfortable chairs and with no atmosphere at all. We were not looking for a party place but a better vibe would have been nice.

We went on the Robinson Crusoe tour. Saw a turtle from the boat and saw lots of Frigate birds, including males with the red throats blown up to attract females. We went fishing and they cooked the fish on a small island. The trip was nice but quite expensive and the snorkelling was not great and just an afterthought at the end as the light was fading.

Would I return? No, but do not regret going. However, we preferred Holbox even though it was busier.
