“needs security update”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I have stayed at the Blue Orchids/Coral Mist for nearly 20 yrs now back when it was the Blythewood and Cacrabank. The night security needs a good shake up, night security guards asleep by the pool at 10PM, not good seeing they start at 8. not once but on 3 occasions. Staff for the most part are excellent with the exception of the odd hotel clerk that is on a power trip. Had the pleasure of watching 1 clerk make a scene over the use of a towel in front of 20 guests. Management at the Blue Orchids far superior to that of the Coral Mist.

We arrived late, having had one of our flights delayed and missing our connection. We were warmly welcomed by the young lady at reception, making us feel quite at home. The staff here were great, always friendly and ready to help, even at one point loaning us an umbrella in case an expected storm passed as we were out exploring St Lawrence Gap. Clean, comfortable room right on the water. Hotel restaurant had good food at reasonable prices, served by one of the nicest young men that I have had the opportunity to converse with in quite some time. The Coral Mist is not posh, but it is all that you need, and more, at a very reasonable price and the staff there were wonderful.

The location was excellent for all the nearby bars and restaurants. About 5 stops on the bus to the gap which is 2bds. Fantastic. I was first out on the 3rd and view was amazing but as I am a smoker I could not stay in that room and the hotel staff were amazing and moved me the very next day when ground floor room was available. Rooms are lively and clean as are the pools and grounds and the beach is heaven. I lived it so much have booked again for June 2015.

On first arriving, thoughts were 'What have I let myself in for?' These were soon dispelled when entering the lobby, the beach side of the hotel was wonderful, Room was better than we imagined with everything required for a self catering holiday. Front desk and bar staff very polite and friendly. Bus stop outside and plenty to do within walking distance. First trip to Barbados and Coral Mist. It won't be the last..

We have been visiting Barbados for over 20 years and have stayed at the Magic Isle in the past due to its location on Rockley Beach. The Magic Isle is really getting run down (to us, anyway) and we wanted to try a more up-to-date hotel that was in the same general area...Coral Mist fit that goal and it exceeded our expectations. Located on a fairly quiet beach with very good swimming conditions. Umbrellas are provided by the hotel on the beach. Reminder that all beaches are open to everyone, no private beaches in Barbados. Rooms were very clean and updated and in line with 4 star hotels. Service was very good, especially Reggie who was a treat to deal with....always smiling and willing to help in any way. Front desk person on Sunday was only poor experience with service as she seemed more interested in her private phone calls than providing help. Also the elevator worked on an adhoc basis, seemingly at a whim, yet no one could seem to fix it. A bit of a problem if your room is on the fourth floor. On site restaurant is convenient and fairly good, though there are numerous good restaurants within walking distance (Just Grilling, Bert's, Mojo's). The hotel is within a 5 minute walk to a large grocery store that stocks everything including beer and liquor. Pool is clean and always able to find a chair around it. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean....you can't go wrong. Ground floors have easier access to the beach b...

I traveled to Barbados to participate in a swimming competition, which this hotel was one of the sponsors.

The room was great, direct access to the beach wich was beautiful. The food in the restaurant was amazing and good selection of local beers. Staff was always willing to help. I asked for specific type of restaurants and they provided me with accurate information.

The hotel is located near several good places like Luck Horse (open 24/7), Mojos (one of the best burgers around), a supermarket and a gas station.

Having stayed at another hotel/apartment for 6 years we decided it was time for a change. After lots of searching we decided on the Coral Mist and booked a 20 day stay.
On arrival, around 3:30pm, our room wasn't ready, but we are always prepared for this. Swimming gear in the carry-on is the only way to travel to south.
The elevator was out of order for most of our stay, but we were on the 2nd floor so it didn't bother us much.
We stayed in 203, and as someone said earlier, it really could use a coat, or 3, of paint, especially the ceiling. No big deal though. Nice view from the room, but I'd look at moving along to a higher numbered room to have a more unobstructed sea-view.
Housekeeping were very efficient and extremely friendly.
Security was always visible and very friendly, especially Liverpool.
Restaurant staff were great too, from the breakfast time guy with his great manners and happy personality, to the young lady who was always smiling.
In the evenings the bar staff were very attentive and happily made tasty drinks for the customers. Thanks Shayne (I think that's how he spelled it).
The front desk staff were for the most part very friendly and always making sure everything was going good.
Antonio and the rest of the pool/beach staff got our chairs and umbrella ready every day, thank you guys.
Now for the best part of staying at the Coral Mist....the turtles, amazing! We experienced seeing a mother turtle lay her eggs, about 85 eggs. On 3 other occasions the Barbados Sea Turtle Project were called out to retrieve some hatchlings, it was a wonderful experience for us.
The location is fantastic with eateries close by, Mojo's and Bert's Bar the closest two.
As I said, this is not our first time in Barbados, but my wife says it's the best trip for her....so far.
Planning on returning in 2015.

Room Tip: Don't worry about the street noise, you will be listening to the ocean as you fall asleep. Try...
