We stayed at Sandy Bay in November for our honeymoon, booked at the last minute through Virgin Holidays due to some problems with our original planned honeymoon.
One thing to note is that it is well worth the money booking a superior room, these are one bedroom apartments with full size living room bathroom and kitchen (not that you expect to use it if you are staying on the all inclusive basis but still nice to have a full size fridge) in addition to a large bedroom with air conditioning. The fridge was stocked with spirits, beer and soft drinks and this was checked and restocked on a daily basis. I can't speak for the other rooms as the only experience we had with them was the room they allowed us to shower and change in before our flight home and this was tiny, I can't imagine having spent a whole week in one of those rooms.
The restaurants (one buffet and one a la carte) get quite busy and you have to book a table at both. The food was generally good, sometimes repetitive but overall a good mix of local food and general western style fodder for those unadventurous types.
The heated outdoor jacuzzi is fab, as is the pool, the hotel is right on the beach and there are plenty of sunbeds, though the parasols are in short supply, not something that bothers me but if you are taking children (who are well catered for with a kids club and play area) it might be worth getting in there early!
The beach here is so much better than other hotels i have stayed at in Barbados, it is nice and shallow with hardly any rocks so perfect for little ones and big ones alike to paddle in.
A few tips -
Don't change money in reception, there is a bank opposite the hotel and you'll get a much better rate there
Try not to get put in a room at the front of the hotel, your bedroom will face out onto a local gym, being woken up at 4am by Bajans leaping up and down to thumping basslines is not my idea of fun
There is a snack bar next to the watersports shack, we didn't realise this until day 3, burgers, pizza etc served there all day
Overall this was a perfect base from which to explore the island, which really is beautiful and well worth hiring a jeep, you can easily drive round in a day.
