“Excellent family value holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2010

You get what you pay for! This is a 3 star hotel but I would certainly rate it 3 star plus. Some of the negative reviews you read about this hotel simply forget that it's not 5 star - you got to pay for that!! The setting is so pretty with lovely views from your balcony of the bay with crystal clear waters. I recommend you pay for a sea view - worth it! The hotel is exceptionally clean and the food - well let's just say a diet is what's required now! The food is fresh with a very good selection and choice for all inclusive - normally after a week I'm fed up with it. The water park is a plus to keep kids amused and the swap box is a good idea too. I will make a comment that I was disappointed that noone had alerted the fact that pool towels are not provided in this all inclusive package. So pack your beach towels! We had to go and buy some - so annoying. I recommend hiring a car just to get out and about and discover this beautiful island. All in all a great family budget holiday - with no mosquitos!!

Amazinnng holiday would love to go again if diamond class r on funny but rude. The food on the other hand is gorgeuos check out the fresh pizza and chicken. The waterslides r really fun. Thumbs up for Christian the waiter but not the rude Scottish lady at the desk or the bar staff indoor I had to wait 40 mins for a drink. Great beach lots of fish big fish. Recommend the glassbottom boat and the swap box great only kids club if you're with first choice. Face painting top class.

Stayed with 2 teenagers, who made friends immediately. Hotel spotlessly clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely position on slight hill, so steps to beach. Beach is gorgeous, take some bread and fish will feed out of your hand. Definitely use the snorkels. Dont rush to buy lilos etc as there is a great "SWAP BOX" outside kids club where most people leave lilos and the like when they go home. Small selection of shops and bars across the beach. Water park fun. Food was very good, fresh pizzas, omelettes and grill bar, all cooked to order along with salad, vegetables, fresh fruit, desserts. Plenty of choice, even for fussy teenagers! Dinks even included a good imitation Baileys! Very family frendly hotel. Great place to give teenagers a bit of freedom without the worry of drunks falling out of bars and clubs. Take a left when you get to beach from the hotel and walk along to a couple of nice bars past the shop.
Enjoyed the glass bottomed boat trip and we went to San Antonio for the Sunset Cruise which was a lovely evening. All in all a very chilled week with fantastic weather.

Set your expectations at a Spanish 3 star and your expectations will probably be met. We were 2 adults 2 kids, 9 and 6. Don't even THINK about going in season as a couple looking for a peaceful break! All the kids running around will drive you mad. Great for families though! We had a family room with 2 double beds. The rooms are fair, clean and a reasonable size. We booked late and had the worst view. Stay away from 225 to 250! There is a view of a wall, a few air conditioning units and some trees. As everyone says the pool is too small and noisy. Yes there's a great beach and we spent every day there. You can paddle out a long way before it gets deep and because it's an attractive little cove, there are no waves so its super safe for the kids. Still very busy but not as noisy. The Water Park is really quite good but not a place to sunbathe. What surprised us the most was the food. It was really good, plenty of variety, gresh grill and paella everyday. Beautiful fresh salads, fresh baked breads and plenty of british fayre for the non-adventurous. It doesn't taste like the pub but they try hard. AI provided all types of drinks, not just beer and wine like some. The reception staff were all a bit old school. More interested in blame and process than customer service. The evening entertainment is truly awful. The daytime activities are all competition based; darts, pool boules table tennis etc. Fun if it's your bag. We had a great time. Stayed at the hotel all except one day. Would recommend to any family.

We have recently returned from a two week holiday at the El Greco. The holiday we experienced was a joy! We thought the location was brilliant, the beach at the bottom of some steps and across the sand was the local water park which we had full access to due to our accommodation being all inclusive. You could also use the all inclusive facility within the water park and on the beach by just walking back up the steps and getting yourself a drink from the pool bar and taking it onto the beach, not sure if you were supposed to do this but everyone else did!

The rooms are not huge but we didn't spend that much time in ours, the air conditioning was great and they provided a television, but only really with news channels to watch while the kids had a afternoon nap.

There was not a vast amount in the surrounding areas and some of the bars were a bit on the pricey side (8 euros for 2 large beers and 2 vodaks, 16 euros for fish and chips) but as we were all inclusive this was not really a problem.

The entertainment was fine during the day and evening, with people who wanted to be included encouraged to do so. The childrens club (only if booked with First Choice) was excellent the girls that ran the club were all really nice and enjoyed entertaining our children (well they seemed to anyway).

The reception staff were a bit miserable sometimes but that seemed to be only one inparticular, the bar staff were all very accommodating and friendly.

We really enjoyed our time in Portinax and at the El Greco and will be going back in the near future.

To summarise - nice hotel, nicer if there was more room for the guests! The dining room always seemed full to capacity, as did the pool area and beach, not enough lifts, lots of steps. Bar areas spacious and pleasant away from kids area (game machines, pool tables etc) low alcohol cocktails on a help-yourself basis on the bar. Grateful for air-con which was effective and quiet.

Cleanliness - looked great unless you looked unde the soap holder ..... yuk.
Service - a smile or two would have helped, some of the reception could have turned wine to vinegar with one look
Location - Fantastic! Right on a nice beach with sheltered cove. Yes, lots of steps but hey, its built into a hillside
Rooms/sleep - rooms OK though our 'sea view' which we paid for was a bit distant. Mattresses hard with just one sheet straight onto mattress itself.
Value - It was OK. Food was good and varied, with some fresh food cooked while you wait. Maybe would do B&B if we went again and would choose a quieter time in the hope things weren't as crowded.

The water park was a big hit with the children. Food in hotel was excellent. All staff very polite and friendly. Room had 2 double beds, air con, tv, hairdryer and decent sized bathroom. We stayed in the hotel in the evening so don't know about nightlife in the area,
Most nights the entertainment was good.
Would definately go back.
