Stayed here for two nights recently and stayed in a 'deluxe' room. £93.00 per night. Was the room worth the price, No! We had breakfast two mornings where half of the menu carried supplements! We had dinner on one night where half of the starters and half of the main courses carried supplements! The wine list had two very cheap bottles of wine as their house wines at £17.00 per bottle. An example being a bottle of Jacobs Creek Chardonnay at £24.00 a bottle! The meal itself was good but at £30.00 per person for three courses (before supplements) and served not in a restaurant but in a breakfast room, was disappointing. Now I don't mind paying as my other reviews would show but whatever one pays, one should receive goods and services worth the price. I will now mention the whiskey bar which is tiny and very nice with a huge stock of single malts but Oh the prices for a 25ml measure! All prices in my opinion were on par with 5 star hotel prices in London! Expect to pay over £6 minimum for a standard single malt. Rising steeply if you go to 12 or 15 year olds!
All in all the welcome was warm but the fact of 'How much can we get out of these people while they are staying here' never really leaves you while staying at Tanochbrae.
As for staying in Dufftown, if visiting distilleries, base yourself in Aberlour or Elgin. Dufftown has no pubs worth a mention or no shops worth browsing around and the village itself I'm afraid is what one would call drab or dreary. Aberlour on the other hand is picturesque with some nice shops, the Mast tun pub/restaurant but it does have a shortage of accommodation. Elgin is a lot bigger than both. One last thing if staying in Tannochbrae, you would need to like artificial flowers because they are everywhere!
