“Surprisingly good for a budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We stayed one night as a stopover. I'd not stayed in an Ibis Budget before but I was quite surprised at how good it was. It is budget though - keep expectations down and you should be pleasantly surprised.

If you arrive when the reception desk isn't staffed, there's a telephone there where you dial a number and the receptionist comes right along - the receptionist appeared to be the housekeeper too so she was off making up rooms.

We booked a double (one without the bunk bed arrangement overhead). The room is basic but not a bad size and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom layout is a little odd; the toilet is in a cubicle, the shower is in a separate cubicle next to it and the sink is in the opposite corner of the room but it's OK for a night. The only gripe I had was that the toilet cubicle smelt quite bad. We should have mentioned it and changed room but given we weren't in there much (and it only really smelt when you were in it, it didn't seep into the the rest of the room) we just stayed where we were....I could not sit in the toilet with the door shut though, it was too much! It would have been good to have some more hooks on the walls too to hang stuff.

There are a few chain restaurants within easy walking distance. There's a McD's next door and another chain sandwich / lite bites place plus a Courtepaille across the road which was very good.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It's great value, comfortable, in a convenient location with a good selection of eateries around. What more can you want?!

- The hotel is very, very basic.
- Location is OK, situated by a roundabout at a motorway exit.
- The staff were fairly uninterested and not particularly helpful.
- The room was clean but extremely basic, and no kettle to make drinks! The decor is cheap and tacky.
- One side of the hotel faces the nearby motorway. On hot nights you can't have the window open due to the noise.
- The reception is poor. The website misleads. On entering you are greeted with a tacky vending machine and the whole feel is very impersonal.
- The towels supplied were small and flimsy, much like an over-sized, poor quality flannel.
- Concerns over hygiene, no sink in the toilet.
- Misleading customer reviews. "Close to local restaurants" actually means cheap, tacky chains, including Poivre Rouge, Buffalo Grill, and McDonald's.
- Even though the place is clearly a budget hotel suited for single overnight stops, it is soulless and feels unfriendly. I have stayed at many other budget hotels that are far better (and often cheaper).

We couldn't wait to leave as early as possible in the morning!

However the worst part was the booking. I booked two rooms for two separate nights. Without any suitable explanation Accor added another booking without informing me and charged me for it. I had to waste so much time and money to explain the problem and finally get it resolved (it took nearly 3 weeks of calls and emails). In the end they refunded me less than the amount they had taken and the whole experience has left a bitter taste in the mouth. The customer service I experienced was dreadful - no one seemed interested to help despite it being Accor who made the error in the first place. I will definitely NOT stay at another Accor/Ibis hotel.

As we had the last room and it was late we had no choice but to stay, or we would have fled. The smell of urine and drains was quite overpowering and our hopes that Etap hotels makeover were dashed. The extractor system then kept us awake all night, sounding like someone had left the Dyson running. Not a good stop over.
