“beautiful beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Beach: This was our first time in Melia Cayo Guillermo and the beach was stunnig! The sand was white, soft and fine. Sometimes there was sea-wee on the sand but they cleaned it up in the morning. The water was very clear, blue, warm, calm and shalow but you can perfectly swim in it. There are few umbrellas on the beach and of course beach chairs, but you have to come early in the morning and put your towels on them to reserve it.You can see very large flocks of small fish of course ,they're not dangerous. If you have a snorkeling kit and you would like to see some more interesting ones go near the sea-wee or near the ''wooden bridge'' it's better there. But if you don't have one you can just borrow it for free at the catamaran and pedalo's cabine (it's little bit dirty but works well). Also I saw one barracuda, few needlefish, big white fish and little black and yellow fish.
Food: The buffet was good, always fresh seafood, chicken and pasta.
Service: The waitres are very pleasant and making sure that you are not missing anything.Specially Yosmany "Pacha" and Milsa were our favorite ones!!! They went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
Rooms:little dated, would need some spruce up and new towels and sheets! Our maid Domoris was very gentle and making sure, that our room is clean !!
Entertaiment:The shows are very nice,Leanet was given us a dance lessons after the show !!! the best show was the one in the pool!! Must see!!

This is our second time in Cuba. We traveled with our 2 year old son. We chose Melia CG because of the baby club and the overall good reviews. The flight was on time. Airport processing in Cuba was fast, bus ride was around 40 min.
Check in at the hotel was delayed. They made us wait for three and a half hours. So was the case for most families with babies and toddlers. We made the best of it, went to the beach and had a snack at the pool's bar.
Our room was on the ground floor which was great because we had a stroller with us. The room was spacious and clean. However, the bathroom was in need of major renovation (rusted bath and shower, mold on the walls and the laundry string). The bed covers were stained, curtains and furniture covers had a musty odor. Sheets were clean. There was a portable crib in the room for our baby. The lining on top was torn and stained. There was a clean sheet but no blanket. Our room was cleaned every day. The fridge was stocked with a bottle of water, pop and beer which were replaced every day.
The hotel exterior and grounds were well maintained. The pool was clean. However, there were cigarette butts and food caught in the border covers. Babies were picking them up and trying to eat them. There were activities in the pool and at the pool bar all the time. The hotel's bathrooms were clean but no change tables. Stale water pool in the lobby, never cleaned. It was very strange being there. They were fumigating against bugs the past couple of days. Didn't help much and probably it's cancerous. The bugs were nasty.
The playground at the baby club had three oversized toys to climb on or in. All were missing pieces. The stairs railing was broken off and there were nails sticking out. The toys inside were dirty and broken. There were organized activities for the kids. However, most of them were unsuitable for babies or toddlers. The ladies working there were friendly and seemed to enjoy their work.
The restaurants' schedule was inconvenient. They only open at 12:30 and 1 pm for lunch which was too late for my son. You can get some food at the pool bar however the choices were very limited and unhealthy. Dinner started at 6:30 pm, again too late for my son. A couple of other moms raised the same concern. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant. Service was great, the pizzas were unedible. From then on, we stuck to the buffet. Compared to our last trip to Varadero the food is below average with the exception of the grill, the pizza and the pasta. These were very good. On one occasion, the meatballs were still raw on the inside and the milk was watered down. The service was very good. As always Cuban people are exceptionally friendly.
The beach was fantastic, well maintained. There was a shortage of beds and umbrellas. The guys at the boat place were very nice and helpful.
I would not recommend this hotel to families with young children. We made due but for such a highly rated hotel we shouldn't have to.

Room Tip: We never had a choice. However if you do...do not go for 1127.

Well, I don't even know where to begin.
I first fell in love with the resort for the pier.. Which is everything you expect, and more. And then I read all of the other reviews and we were sold.
Me and my fiancé have been through a lot in the past few months, i lost my mom and dad in the last 6 years, and his parents were the most amazing in laws i could ever ask for so we decided we wanted to go away but this was his first trip anywhere and I had never been anywhere alone.. So we were kinda nervous to do that by ourselves, and said let's bring his parents since they have been through it all with me.
And we booked! This place was amazing, staff alone.. I would go back.
We are already planning our next trip back with the rest of the family!!!
Food was awesome, there was always something to eat, at first I had a hard time realizing what was what.. And that it wasn't gonna taste the same as back home. Between the pasta, pizza , steaks, pork, omletes, sausages, fresh bread, burgers and fries! Oh my goodness!!!
All the staff became our family, every one was so friendly, and funny, and loving. I miss them all so much!!
We talked to so many people who were on their sixth trip back, and like I said we are already planning on going back!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We travelled as a group of 10 (in our late 30's and 40's) Only one couple had been to Cuba before but not in this area. We knew going in its often difficult to find a place that suited everyone and being the week of Feb.16th (family day holiday and reading week for students) it was an expensive one. We had been searching for deals since early October but didnt book until just before New Year's( the deals just were not there for this time of year). There are a lot of cheaper resorts in Cuba but we didnt want to take a chance ( you get what you pay for ) 4 star or better is the only way to go.

Scouring reviews I came across this resort which seem to have raving reviews with very few complaints. The one that topped my list of concerns was the great food. Cuba not being known for its culinery delights, was always a sticking point for me not wanting to go there but guess what??? This resort had the best food I have ever had!!! Variety was awesome both in the a la carts and the buffet. 2 of the a la carts ( Ranchon-mix and Italian- pizza and pasta ) are open for lunch so we took advantage of those. We did the International- fine dining for one night ( incredible ) and ate every other night during our stay at the buffet in Rolando and Yimilka's section. They really are wonderful people who take great pride in their work. They would have our table ready and waiting for us. Buffet Breakfast was always good too with so much to choose from and cooked fresh right in front of you. The pool bar/grill is open 24 hours and has delicious burgers and sandwiches. The beach bar has a barbque with the absolute BEST pork ribs, sausage, dogs and burgers. No one should ever go hungry at this resort.

The bars were plentiful and incredibly staffed. Miseal, Analisa, Yinael stood out for me. They always remembered your name or if not your face and what you liked to drink. The drinks themselves were good using premium brands. ( lobby bar- smirnoff, jack daniels, beefeater etc )

Rooms were large with very comfortable beds. Yes the bathrooms needed alittle updating but they were fully functional, lots of hot water and good pressure and always kept spotless by the maid. Mini bar was always replaced with beer, pop and water ( give a good tip on the first day for both the maid and fridge man and you will be well taken care of ) Being a small resort I think all the room placements were just fine. All the rooms looked out to either the pool, ocean or a well maintained courtyard garden. You cant go wrong. We were on the second floor of 3. We had emailed ahead requesting that all 5 couples be placed together on one floor in the same building and we got what we asked for! It was perfect.

Beach was the best I have ever been to. I have travelled to many caribbean destinations and have never seen such a wonderful beach. The sand is so soft like walking on powder or flour. The maintenance crew were out everyday cleaning up the debris. You could walk for miles. Fishing off the dock. Paddle boats and katamarans available and no time limits really. Chairs were hard to come by so once you got one you took it with you up to the poolside and vice versa. They had wheels on them so easy to move. We never had a problem with finding chairs for all 10 of us each day.

There are plenty of excursions in and around Cayo Coco. We chose the Pilar Plus which was a trip to another beach not too far away. It included 2 drinks and a lobster/shrimp lunch or chicken. The beach itself is gorgeous but not better than what we have at the resort in my option. BUT the lobster lunch is to die for and well worth the trip alone. The second part of the excursion was the 2 seater speed boat tour. This was so awesome! You each got to drive your own speed boat through maingroves and small lake. You got to go snorkling in a mangrove aswell where we saw plenty of fish. Boris was an excellent guide and made the speed boat adventure fun for all.

The second excursion we chose was the Disco Cave which only operates on the Tuesday night. The bus picks you up from the resort at 9:30 and brings you back at 2:10 am so be prepared for a long night. The cave itself is neat but being reading week, there were alot of students making us the old guys and girls of the night! Only one bartender working that night ( drinks included in price) and only 1 bathroom for the ladies which was rediculous. Remember to bring you TP with you on any outing as it is in short supply. All in all the cave was neat to experience and we were all glad we did it. Both excursions as well as others are very reasonably priced, cheaper than other countries by far.

All in all the Melia is definitely a 4+ resort. Cant say enought good things about it. The only improvements I could see would be the public washrooms needing door latches that closed and toilet paper refills more often, Even the International a la cart was missing a toilet seat in one stall and no TP! We just got use to carrying it with us at all times. The hotel room bathrooms need updating too. Just fix the washrooms and add some WOW factor to the lobby and you will have a 5 star property.

Room Tip: we had 5 rooms on the 2nd floor of building 2, close to the pool and buffet but the resort is small...

This hotel had many nice folks making sure our stay was enjoyable (besides the pool bar attendants who ignored you). The hotel was clean and buffet was very good, Italian restaurant good but others were not. Maids made sure you had everything needed and tidy each day, waiters made sure you had a good time during your meal. Beach was clean and beautiful. Nightlife was not so great.

Room Tip: We had rooms 1232 & 1233 - ocean view and away from the nightly shows.

Been there for the 6th time, and always amaze by the professionalism of the workers. Jimmy and the attraction personnel are just wonderful. Gally, Vania, Rollando, Edgar, just to name a few, are always cheerful and more than willing to serve you a drink or meal the nicest way possible. Jackelyn makes your omelets or eggs the way you want it, making it look easy. Chambermaid enjoys making hearts and other shape with towels Also nice spot for kids since they have daycare on site.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are good or ground floor unit (no steps)

Food & Restaurants..Only tried the international restaurant feb 14th at en extra charge of £15 each..scallops in the shell with cheese sauce were cold, cray fish tough as old boots, fillet steak same as the crayfish, didn`t have dessert...Patrick if you read this the rose wine was fantastic you know what i mean.
Crocodile outside the window wouldn`t have been as tough as the crayfish & fillet steak.
Buffet hit & miss, half cooked bacon and head of beef actually as written on the hot plate.
