“Amazing vacation inspeate of Sandy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We have vacation from October 19 to October 26, 2012. This was our first vacation in Cayo Coco and was excellent. All stuff was friendly, outspoken and always ready to help. First few days weather was very good. Our compliment to stuff are for days with lot of rain when entertainment group was able to cheer up guests and bar staff was special good in preparing cocktails and serving number of people staying in bars long time.
Special Thanks to Carlos, Yamila, Anita and all kitchen stuff that has been awesome all the time.
Room was clean and every day bed decoration was different.
In total resort is very clean, beach with white send and choice of food very good.
We are planning to visit this resort again in winter time.

This resort has just about everything for families.
Although I've seen nicer beaches it has white sand beach and fairly long.
There are shallow areas that are great for kids and loaded with small white
fishes my kids enjoyed playing with.
A real bonus was the resort beside it, belonging to the same owner, the Melia had a
pier for fishing. Lots of fish. I caught some and even swam to get a line caught only
to see an aquarium of fishes. My buddy caught a fish and before he could haul it up
a long nose fish went after it literrally flying. It was insanely fun.

Our favourite hangout in the afternoons and at night was the bar-entertainment-stage-pool table-pool area where the many activities took place.

Food was fairly good from the buffet and I still don't see why people complain about Cuban cooking. They're just as good as any buffet in Toronto.

The rooms were very spacey and clean. Our balcony was facing the lagoon which was great for hanging out late at night drinking our complementary Mulata rum. But we had to ask for these rooms when we got there and the hotel reception staff were very much accommodating and friendly. For that, we gave them our telescopic fishing rod on our way home as a gesture of appreciation.

Again. Every time we go to Cuba we never miss enjoying things the tropics
can only offer and that is eating and drinking from the coconut which by the way is very healthy and very cleansing. Just befriend anyone of the gardeners and they'd very happy to pick and prepare you some. In our case we had freshly picked coconuts decorated at our doorstep almost every afternoon. Don't forget to tip because these guys sweat all day doing the garden.

Having returned from SCG just yesterday I promised to leave an honest review, firstly I'd like to emphasise this was one of my favourite holidays I've ever had , this is mostly down to the location and the amazing people that work at the hotel.

Room: clean, reasonably decorated and furnished, overlooking the ocean complete with hammock, the bed was huge and the A/C was overly efficient , I've had better but also had much worse . 4 out of 5

Food: buffet was excellent for meat / fish, cooked for you both on buffet and fresh at the food stations, pasta bar was my favourite , vegetables were not to my liking and pretty much the same every evening .3 out of 5
Beach restaurant for lunch was ok but repetitive and ran out of items as the time passed from opening times, but we always ate well,3/5.
Al la carte same again ok but not the special treat I'd would've expected.3/5

Beach: excellent! Pure white sand crystal blue waters, plenty of beds and room, your own piece of paradise 5/5

Nautical centre: cayaks and pedals were free. But hobby cats were £10 for an hours sailing with guide, now last year I went to guadlavacca and these were free also 3/5

Entertainment : the dancers are amazing and yes they are professional, they put on a good show every night but tbh I would've liked more variety, perhaps more outside acts to break it up a bit. 4/5

Bars: main bar; the staff are very attentive and will make you cocktails or anything you require! Yes occasionally they run out of glasses but just get one and hang on to it all night and you won't have a problem 4/5
Cubanito: excellent ambiance ,excellent staff , Carlos had us laughing and drunk whenever we visited 5/5. It could've been better if it was open later and held a full stock of drinks as never had sprite or othe soft drinks by evening

Lobby: always helpfully for changing money or if not satisfied with room etc 4/5

Reps: info at welcome meeting was good but I don't do organised trips I'd sooner find my own way at half the cost

Resort was clean and tidy! Yes you will see the odd plastic glass about but that's down to tourists too lazy to walk the 6 ft to the bin.

Louis the manager in my opinion try's his best but this is Cuba, things are hard for Cubans they are poor , certain things are in high demand short supply,

We spent a day in moron with Jose who used to work in the cubanito bar, his family were very loving and friendly, they fed us and showed us around the town, this is we're you see how Cubans live, they have very little and it makes you realise how lucky we are.

Special thanks to the staff that made this holiday so special,,, Yuri and leony chefs in buffet were our favourites. Miguel in doughty bar,Carlos yamila Elizabeth franci in main bar...Carlos in cubanito ..potato and shitttiiiing lol..my sue our maid xx and amori on the beach thank you for making our holiday!! You all are the OnLy reason we will return..

Oh one last shout! The boys and girl dancers,,,, they are hard working and never get tips, unlike every one else .. So take a little present for them..they deserve it and prob work harder than everyone..

See you soon SCG xxx

Just to clarify that the Sol may not be the best hotel in the world and I don't imagine the management would say that it is but I bot back yesterday from a great holiday there. I agree with all the positive comments on this hotel and very few of the negative ones. Even before I got there I had seen that the manager had taken the time to read and respond the reveiews so I was impressed when he came on the Thomas Cook coach to meet us at the airport. We (my wife and I) were greeted at the hotel by the great entertainment staff and a welcome drink. I had seen comments about some rooms having been renovated and others not but decided to see what we got rather than request something specific. Rooms had been allocated before we actually arrived so after check-in we went straight to the bar whilst the cases were taken to the room. We got room 608, a ground floor room with a sea-facing patio which was great for watching the sun rises each day (we're early risers). Whether the room had been renovated or not I don't know but It was perfectly fine. It had a nice clean bathroom (shower only - not a problem) and two double size beds and was kept clean daily by our maid Yolaisy. A missing sink plug was rectified albeit with a reminder after one day.
The buffet restaurant was adequate with enough choice of eggs, sausages, pancakes, cereals and fruits for breakfast and meats, fish, salads for dinner. Yes, there were occasions when plates ran out or something needed refilling a bit quicker but hey, you're on holiday. Chill out! A small point is that the tables could be cleared of dirty dishes etc a bit quicker.
Lunchtimes are either a snack (limited to burgers, toasties or hot dogs) from the snack bar, bbq bits (chicken, burgers etc) from the bbq hut down by the beach, or a meal at the Ranchon restaurant. This has a dish of the day plus fixed regulars such as pizzas, a fish dish and a couple of meat dishes which are served by waitresses. A small selection of salad items, chips, pasta etc are also availabe at the buffet table. A limited choice but enough for me. Being near to the beach this becomes quite busy and used by people in their beach wear. I would like to see a dress code so at least shorts and a tea shirt are worn.
For me the choice of drinks cannot be faulted. There have been suggestions that drinks from bottles with premium labels may not actually be so but I detected none of that. I had everything from quality rum, vodka and tequila to Cinzano and Dubonnet.
The daytime activities are organised by the Animation Team. There's something for most people and we played volleyball (beach and pool) just about every day mostly organised by Yaniel and Ailex (I hope I've spelt thise right|) who are both great.
We sent the evenings in the bar watching the nightly shows and they're the best we've seen at this type of hotel. The entertainment staff include trained dancers and the put on a different show every night. In two weeks we didn't see the same thing twice (although we missed a few nights for various reasons). There are some audience participation on some nights (Mr Macho night etc) but this is great fun. There is a disco that runs from 11 to 2 a.m. but we never got to it. It doesn't seem to be well attended. Shame.
While we were there I would guess the hotel was about 30% occupied. For me this was great. No fight for sunbeds or queues in the restaurant but enoughpeople around for some atmosphere and chat. The main season is the winter when the Canadians escape their snow but apart from the Brits there were Canadians, Argentinians, Cubans ans a small selection of others.
So what made this holiday special? It was the staff. With (almost) no exception. I'll admit that some are more efficient than others when it comes to serving, clearing tables etc, but you cannot fault how friendly they are and how welcome they make you feel. From the reception staff to the maids and the gardeners. So thanks Luis to the aforementioned Yaniel and Ailex and to Yamila 1, Yamila 2, Mibiala, Elizabeth, Yuri. Omar, Oscar, Karel and so many others. You make a good hotel even better.
A downside? Getting bitten all over - worse than anywhere else - by sandflies (or so I'm told). Not everyone had a problem and I don't normally either. Be prepared. Take some prevention and cure.
I'll leave the matter of excursions etc as this does not come within a review of the hotel. But d=make sure you do the speedboat trip. Twice if you can!

Room Tip: How do I know what type of room you want? There are ground floor rooms with patios, upper rooms wit...

I had an amazing trip to this hotel in cayo guillermo. It was my first time there. Was my fifth in cuba so far.
And the best by far, the beach is the best !
The staff is super friendly and charming, they really want to make your stay the best.
Our room was gorgeous, quiet .
The gardeners often left us flowers and coconuts at the doorstep.
We travelled a lot to other hotels and beaches, 5 cuc back and forth, def a good idea.
The buffet is awesome.
Don't get fooled by the weather channel , cuba is nice anyway, if the rain is on the forecast it'll leave within 20 min.
We also made friends there, and i would really like to bring some stuff to them ( staff of the hotel ) email me at girlsonskis@hotmail.fr if you are making a trip there soon, would love to have you bring some stuff to them for me ! thank you
